I'm finding myself oddly tempted to get this guy recently. Maybe I'm suffering from plastic crack withdrawl, I don't know. But I've recently found somewhere that has the Takara version fairly cheap, which would correct one of the problems I have with the Hasbro release (The lack of paint).

    Is he worth it?

If it's cheap, go for it. I did not like what Hasbro did to the head at all, the switched eye colors and lack of face point make it look weird. Takara did it right.

BOTH however could've looked better with more body paint.

Takara didn't really do it right either, since the face paint is more of globbed-on matte grey paint. It never looked right to me. :/

Still better than no paint, though. The silver plastic used is the antimatter of sculpted detail.

What Takara did with the paint and the eyes looks better.

Yeah it looks better, I'm just saying it isn't perfect.

It's a heartbreak shame that he never got a Platinum painted-silver figure.

That definitely is a shame. There were a couple figures that could've used a Platinum Edition treatment, actually.

Anyway, thank you all for the input. Definitely considering it. Initially, I was against having him, simply because he was a shell-former, but after seeing the movie, and understanding why that was, I'm a little more interested.

I found it to be a very solid toy. May main issues with it were the eye color, massive lack of paint and lack of gunmetal face(which the Takara version has). Actually I'm surprised this wasn't molded in the gunmetal that DOTM Striker Optimus was(the Japanese release, not the APS Hasbro Asia one). It's a decent size, I didn't feel short-changed after buying this figure(aside from lack of paint).

Blast from the past! Meijers is clearancing out AoE Voyagers at long last and I finally picked up Galvatron.

It's one thing to buy a figure from a "hot" fiction, where it's fresh in your brain and you're all hyped up about it, but another for something that happened some time ago and your ardor may have cooled.

I picked it up because the price is right and I like the idea of a T-1000-ish Transformer murderbot. (Imagine every time he gets hit, the cube transform effect happens, repairing the damage as he stalks in and then fires limitless missiles to destroy everyone.)

Anywho, it's a bit weird to have a new bot that's so reminiscent of Motormaster, who I've had for months, but is still entirely it's own bot. The shellformer backpack doesn't bother me, though I feel like the vehicle back end is rather weak. However, I find that I really like the robot mode. There's a level of personality in hand that I wasn't expecting, even with pics and seeing him in package.

Glad I picked him up, especially at $18.
