This looks like they cut back so much on toys plastic, he probably weighs half of ROTF OP. These new movie toys look so cheap lazily made
Well, at least it's nice to know that there's other reasons for me not to get this besides the dino mode.
What I really find sad about this is Hasbro has made Transformer T-rex figures in the past that look awesome and were very simple to transform.. Why couldn't they use the transformation of one of those figures and tweak it a bit to make it a little different ? Beast Wars Megatron or Transmetal Megs all transformed great and the proportions were pretty dead on that made him look great in Bot and Dino modes. This figures bot mode in ok looking but the dino mode is awful. Its like the designers got insulted and just gave up when Hasbro told them to dumb down their designs.
The more I look at the horns the more I think they were a late addition to the mold, they're so flat and without detail. I get the feeling that the addition of the horns to the movie character was a very late decision so they had to race to make the figure look like what he would be on screen.
I wonder if Grimlock's new leader size is what we should expect Generations Leader Class Megatron and Jetfire to be as well.
I could live with the downsizing if Leader Grimlock proved to be a solid and awesome figure. But combine that with the chrome (and possible chipping in the box); the not so poseable shoulder joint ratchets; and the elongated silly proportions in Dino mode when it appears he puts on his T-Rex size girdle....I'm sticking with the voyager all the way.

No doubt. Have you seen any of the pics at Seibertron of somebody holding Jetfire in alt mode? He's tiny.
I think a KO company is going to take the deluxe version of Grimlock and over size it like they did with DOTM megatron lol Then people will be using that for their leader class and paying insane prices for them ..
I already plan on stripping that chrome crap off his backpack and painting them red.. The chrome just cheapens the look of the figure...
His robot mode is not entirely bad. The paint works best in his robot mode, but on the legs it looks kinda off. His Dinosaur mode is where he is weak. It looks like they got two different figures and tape them at the waste. I wish they would have stuck with the colors they had at Toy Fair. Also, size and price really get me. 45$ for a slightly bigger voyager with NO electronics is a bit bad. I'm still getting him but he will be displayed in robot mode.
