Transformers Age of Extinction – Voyager Evasion Mode Optimus Prime

So I got Prime along with Voyager Grimlock recently and it is finally time to get their reviews up.
Voyager Prime was such a surprise. No part of me really expected to like this figure very much as I hadn’t liked any of the images that had come out of him to date, but once I had him in hand I was blown away.
Bot mode:

Amazing articulation! I think he will go down with Bendy OP from Armada as one of the most fun primes to pose. Only major limitation is his arms not having a traditional elbow bend so that it can be awkward to get his arms just how you like him.

His legs are amazing, they should use this exact design for every Prime’s legs forever, they’re both simple but give the visual of being complex.
His face is a bit of a mess and that along with his rifle are the two things I really wish I could change. A new head on him would make the figure near close to perfect.

His rifle is actually really a great weapon, imposing and nice for his size, but as has been pointed out the grip is where it just gets ruined because there is no way for him to hold it where it doesn’t look like it is practically floating in air. When you get him just leave him with the rifle pointed down as this completely hides the awkwardness. One other major opportunity lost is there is no reasonable way to peg it on to his back.

Transformation:
He is a marvel of engineering. Getting this bot mode to compact down in to this vehicle mode is simply unbelievable. His leg transformation is simple, where everyone will end up getting frustrated is his arms. Basically you have to have his head in just the perfect position and then fold his side and arms just perfectly to get them all to squeeze in, but when you do it’s simply brilliant!
Alt mode:
Best flat-nosed semi alt mode since G1. Just works perfectly and I am very eager to try posing some legends class size riding the back of him soon.
Why couldn’t all of the movie toys be like this! Has easily now become one of my favorite all time Primes and cannot recommend him highly enough to everyone!

how much of his chest windows are fake? and can i go ahead and ask for some size comparisons with DOTM megatron and battle blades optimus prime (if you have them) please? thanks in advance, this is my most anticipated figure for TF4  

 

Man he does look sweet.   I may go for the Takara version since he'll have the more movie accurate colours but whatever colours he has the mold still looks awesome.   Will you do a comparison shot with him and his HFTD BB Optimus Prime toy?

Man, he really could've used more paint apps. Hopefully a repaint or a Takara release will fix that and make this toy shine, since the mold looks pretty darn good (minus the arms).

Also, I see the shotgun has a peg on the handle for DOTM Megatron. Can you take a picture of him holding it to see how it looks?

 

Those elbows are hard to get over. That just looks downright goofy.

 

We'll it looks good, just needs more paint as usual. Why do US releases get the paint skip? Don't more sell here than in japan?

 

yes, because in japan TF is a niche market and usually more for collectors so they go for quality over quantity.

 

Wow. I can't wait to get this Prime! Hopefully someone will make a new head. I see that happening. Both modes looks fantastic. They'll look even better if reprolabels makes a set for him....

 

Can his knee guards go down more? I don't know if it's the lack of grey on his legs, but they look huge.

 

Awesome stuff, thanks for sharing! Seeing him next to the original Optimus Prime really pushes how much this one is a big 30th anniversary loveletter to the style of the original.

Feels like it could do with a little more paint, though, particularly on the legs. But that's a minor quibble - the design is good, which is what I'm really interested in.

 

I seriously cannot wait to pick up this guy. He looks like a load of fun

 

Idk whether I should buy this or not. It's awesome, but probably expensive. Does anyone else know how much it will retail for at WalMart?

That will be painted..and purchased a couple times..painted again..then repaints will come out..Ill buy them..

Not bad. The star of the show is the old G1 truck alt mode, of course, but bot mode isn't shabby despite the lack of paint. Wonder what Takara will do with the mold. The Megatron shotgun accessory is neat though I don't like what they did with it having a 5mm peg coming out of the handle; looks weird. Wish they just kept it simple and made it a 5mm peg only. The shotgun will be going to DOTM Voyager Megatron anyway, while Evasion mode Optimus will get the Dr. Wu black Metallic Storm ion rifle (hopefully his arm joints are sturdy enough to hold such a heavy diecast gun).
