Yeh. He works well as a Optimus toy. The combiner stuff is extra bonuses if you own the two leaders of the sword bot teams.

I couldn't have said it better myself!

I also got this fig this week & thus far I've been transforming it back and forth. Enjoying it very much & it's quite a fun toy.

Between Daikenzan & Daigekisou, I prefer the Daigekisou combined form. The Daikenzan form looks like a cross between an ape & a bodybuilder on steroids lol.

Go! Optimus Exprime makes his debut:

Thanks for that vid. Man. They cheated quite a bit with the dragon mode in the animation haha.

Another bonus is that Optimus' kabutos can be used by Go-Kenzan and Go-Gekisoumaru. They peg only at the heads, but are secure enough overall.

Thanx for sharing them Archieboy, despite the brickbats these TF Go! combiner get sometimes the play value is rather high.

One thing I can definitely say about this figure is that if you have an Optimus Prime collection and want to point to something in it that's uniquely Japanese, this is that figure. That's a positive in my book.

edit: Just watched they youtube episode linked above and wow, did they take some liberties with the dragon mode. :)

Finally got him combined. Both combined modes aren't the best looking bots, but these figures are a hellotta fun.

All 7 bots. Nothing is wasted (except for a couple of Kabutos :) ).

It sure is interesting how Takara has made Optimus Prime into a train rather than the usual cab mode.

I like what you did there with the remaining bots. I agree, he is a lot of fun. I do wish that his electronics were done better (esp considering how well they were done with Kenzan and Gekisoumaru).

Hah! So much negativity & pessimism in your review bro.

Cheap knock off feel? Where did you get that from? It's a fun toy to fiddle around & can withstand rough handling. It's not fragile.

In fact it harks back to the simplicity of the AEC line. Toys don't have to be complex to be enjoyable.

The plastic definitely isn't cheap on that thing (not talking about the accessories). As sturdy as can be.

The only fragile parts are the pegs to combine the helmets, which are not an issue if you shave them down a little if they're too tight and pull them apart lengthwise rather than from side to side.

It's a great toy otherwise, even the hollow legs feel pretty durable. My only complaint is that there isn't really a good way to have both helmets on his back at the same time. You can have the dragon helmet on the back and use the double-sword with the samurai helmet as a shield or store the swords on the back with the samurai helmet to use the dragon helmet as a cannon, but if you want to use the dragon claws on the arms or just dual-wield the swords you have to drop one of the other pieces of equipment. I think I found some way to get the dragon helmet on the back with the train flap, but it ends up being kind of awkward.

I'm just going to assume Exprime has a disappearing caboose that holds the helmets for this entire line and call it a day.

One of those pegs broke on mine but that was kinda my fault. I should've shved them down a notch. But I dont think he feels cheap at all. When people say these guys hark back to AEC era... they're not kidding. And theres nothing wrong with that IMO. Not everything has to be like Prime or the Movies. These guys feel more sturdy than some of the stuff from the recent Generations and IDW lines anyways (IDW Megs feels so fragile I'm afraid of transforming it).

I can be pretty negative, but have you guys felt cheap knock-offs? The density of the plastic isn't necessarily what I'm talking about. The biggest thing about KOs is that parts don't tab together and tightly as they should. No matter how much I try, my Optimus' panels don't stick together firmly in train mode at all. Plus, the electronics don't work when I push the button on the top. If this doesn't justify me saying it feels like a KO then I don't know what does.

Those kabuto helmets are the worst.
