One of the sides of the front cockpit area on mine is prone to flipping off if I activate the cyber key gimmick two or three times with out bothering to retighten it in between.

Also, by taking Prime's arm off by removing the three screws in the part of his shoulder with the square tab on it, I was able to attach both Wing Saber and Leobreaker at the same time.

Recently, I went through some tough times, and someone kindly gave me Cybertron Wing Saber and Excellion as gifts. Which is good, because the only new TF I can find on my own is Sky Shadow, and I'm not touching that one.

Wing Saber is... how can I put this? He's a really good toy, better than I expected, and yet I just don't love the guy. The vehicle mode is good (apart from the legs, which don't fit right on mine, either--I still haven't been able to fiddle them back into place). The robot mode... it's nice. It's not ugly at all. It just doesn't push my buttons, I guess. I can't figure out why I don't like him more than I do, because he's a pretty good toy.

As for the lack of chrome, meh. The chrome looks nicer, but since I got mine for free (and since it's only a toy... geez), I'm not fussed about it.

For most of the last few days, I've had him attached to my Prime, in Sonic Wing Mode. This I do like. In fact, last night I thought it could be a vague homage to Victory Saber. The wings, the extra "black bits" (guns this time) to attach to Prime's legs, the guns on the back... admittedly it's not that close, but it's fun to think about. I do have to be careful about how I pose Prime, as he's been on display since last August in his super mode, and his hip joints are slightly loose. Wing Saber's cannon thing is heavy enough to worsen this, so make sure your Prime is stable when you pose him.

Overall, I'm not unhappy to have him, and he's a nice example of modern TF-ness. Just not one I would have gone to the ends of the earth to find.

EDIT: Incidentally, mine doesn't have a visor at all. This might be one of those obvious changes that I missed hearing about, but does anyone else's Wing Saber have a visor?

Got Wing Saber today and it's awesome! My fav Ultra in the line.

Great alt mode. There can never be enough TF planes, especially ones armed to the teeth like WS is. The way the swords are integrated into the wings to make the flaps is genius.

The robot mode, while it looks kibbly and awkward in pics was a huge suprise. Great articulation (I have the wing undercarriage foled out just slightly to give it outward arm movement) which is always a huge plus with me. The feet look really strange but they work great. The lack of hands looked like a huge downer in pics as well, but I actually like the swords mounted on the sides of the arms, plus having gunbarrels for fingers looks very cool.

The key gimmick is sort of 'wtf?' but it works well and doesn't hamper any of the robot mode articulation so I have no problem with it.

I haven't combined it with prime yet, so I'll add another post later on after doing that.

    Now to the big points:

Yellow chest. IMO this looks SO much better in person than in pics. In fact, after seeing it from different angles it's far superior to the chrome of the GF version which would look incredibly ugly in contrast to the yellow in the other parts of his body. The fixed face bar looks so much better then the bent GF version...I heard the bent one is show accurate, but whatever...I don't watch the show so it's not a factor at all with me. the bent face bar looks hideous IMO. I'm so glad I don't import toys and got Wing Saber over Sonic Bomber. Great, great toy. An easy A.

I kinda wish the swords were chromed, but I don't miss it so much on the chest.

My Wing Saber also has the problem of the cockpit splitting apart unexpectedly. It's kinda annoying since I can't really tell when it's locked, I just have to peg the two halves together and hope that it holds.

Also, how do I attach the missile launchers to Optimus's feet? The instructions aren't really helpful on this, and I don't see any pegs that would connect the pieces together.

The missile launchers attach onto Optimus' Super Mode feet. Put Optimus in Super Mode without his backpack, and you'll see where the pegs fit in.

BTW, love this fig. I don't know that I have anything else all that important to add to anyone's reviews, so that is all.

I thought he was an A-10 Warthog bomber?

I am having a hell of a problem with his head.

Also does anyone know what the pegs on the sides of his nose cone are for?

    From Wikipedia:

The A-10/OA-10 Thunderbolt II, usually known by its unofficial nickname "Warthog", is the first US Air Force aircraft designed for close air support (CAS) of ground forces.

The pegs on the side are just dead minicon ports...for attaching some of the SWAT team in weapon mode, for instance.

Wingsaber is a solid "C" figure.

Asthetics of both modes are alright, but not great. I have a big problem with taking a chunk of the alt mode as big as the entire fuscalage from the wings up and just chucking it onto the 'bots back. Do something with it. Have it turn into...anything.

I also have a problem with the general "alt mode on the topside, 'bot mode on the underside" transformation of the whole thing. Neither mode is hidden from the other, it's just under/behind it.

Finally, the toy's just too big. Way too big. Shoulda' been a deluxe. I know, he has to be that big to combine with Prime, but then Prime's way too big as well.

At the end of the day, I love Transformers and as long as neither mode is flat-out ugly/stupid I'll probably buy it. Like I said, decent asthetics in both modes save this guy from failure. Can't hate him, but nothing makes him stand out either.

Oh, and for the record, Wingsaber loses nothing in the looks department due to the yellow paint on his chest. I might even go as far as saying it looks better than Sonic Bomber's gold chrome. If Wingsaber's Autobot symbol was not chromed it might be a problem, but he's got just enough of the shiny stuff on his chest with the chromed symbol to look great.

I had been curious as to why wing sabre's guns had the odd streched s shape to them, untill i attached them to primes feet and saw how they act as heel spurs, as wing sabre is heavy and withouth then prime would fallover backwards. Overall i like wing sabre quite a bit, he has better posability than i thought he would, he looks interesting in both modes and he has a presence to him that other transformers lack

WingSaber is a nice figure. Looks good in both modes. Decent cyberkey gimmick.

The right foot doesn't slot into the tail in plane mode quite like the left one does, but that's okay.

Sonic Wing mode with Optimus is nifty, though I can't help but think Optimus's own backpack has bigger wings and bigger guns.

meh, not true. when you open the big cockpit gun, add two gatling guns, missle launchers to his feet, give him a jetpack, AND if he's flying gets to bear those other wing weapons, there's no way his natural wings are better than the ones from sonicbomber/wingsaber. who cares if the wings are taller, cause they're not longer so it doesn't give him any more performance :)

I'd say that both sets of wings have about the same amount of wing surface. The unfolded Wingsaber wings might have a bit more surface area.

Still not as much wing surface as G1 Hot Rod's car mode. :p

I think he is counting the part that comes down from the wings themselves too when he said that. :p

Wing Saber (Sonic Bomber) isnĀ“t a top notch figure but he can link-up with Galaxy Convoy and form a great figure...

You will love it. He's my favorite tf of the modern era, hence the screen name. I actually have the import and the one that comes with the tru ex-02 which is painted in red and is VERY awesome.

I got him almost by accident. I asked my dad if he could go look for a Wii back in January, and he came back with WS instead. As a figure by itself, it sucks IMO. With Prime, it's better, but not by much
