Here is my review of Cybertron Armorhide. I believe Armorhide is one of--if not THE BEST basics ever. His truck mode is very reminiscent of G1 Huffer/ Pipes. This is a true Robot in Disguise. Very little clue of his robot features are visible in truck-mode, asside from the fists at the rear, but they also blend in nicely and could pass for towing holes so i guess I'll let them slide. The cab is mostly Blue, with nice silver detailing stripes on the top and sides. Armorhide's gun doubles as a truck-hitch in this mode, with a white hook at the end, and nice red paint detailing on the top. There is also Armorhide's only Autobot insignia on his hitch/gun's end The grill is grey, and when the Cyber key is inserted, it flips open with a spring device revealing an arsenal of what appear to be missle bays. These are painted red and are quite nice looking, although they do not fire. Armorhide's transformation is relatively simple, but it is a fun transformation method that I've never seen in another transformer. The top half of the cab becomes his legs, and the rear section of the truck becomes his arms. Simple, yet extremely effective. Robot mode is very cool looking. It balances nicely. It is also surprisingly articulated for a bot this size. The head turns and can look up. Full arm and elbow movement. Leg and knee articulation, check. I believe he has at least 16 points of articulation, If my counting is right. In robot mode the cyber key again opens the grill, revealing the missle-bays in his chest. The truck hitch becomes Armorhide's gun. There is no firing projectile, which is a slight dissapointment. The gun also has tabs on the side to store the planet key when it is not in use--for both alt and robot modes. A very nice touch. Armorhide's head is very formidable looking, and very reminiscent of G1 Ironhide. I believe a red repaint or kitbash of this figure would be a great Ironhide figure! All in all Armorhide is awesome and I think EVERY transfan should have him in their collection!
The waist doesn't rotate, but as part of the transformation, you can angle the waist so the top half is looking up more, if this makes any sense. This does however hinder the balance of the figure.
He's a great little guy. Ball joints all over the place. The only real downside I see to him is that his head could be a tiny bit bigger. When you use the force chip in bot mode and look at him straight on, the grill blocks a little of his face. Some things about his gun- At the hilt it's got circles on each side which look like they'd be the right side to stick an Energon star on. The hook can be attached in two slightly different spots. Mine seemed backwards so I pulled it out and saw the other set of holes for it. One is lower so you might actually be able to set him up towing something. (I tried it with Brakedown before I switched it but it didn't work.) And one other great thing, he can kneel! I haven't seen very many action figures that can do this without falling over. Both Armorhide and Brakedown can get down on one knee and not fall over. Great diorama potential with that.
I just got him and I love him! to nitpick, I hate how there's a red square painted on the front under the windows, only on ONE side! wtf? both sides or no sides, please *L* other than that, a slightly larger head as said before, but oh yeah, A-! Andy
This guy definately sounds pretty great... but the pics of him... they're making me think that he's a "you gotta have him to appreciate him" kinda guy. I'm not too wild about the alt mode... something doesn't quite look right to me. Maybe it's the lack of a trailer. The bot mode, however, definately looks superb.
he definitely was better in person, but he's a wrecker big rig... here, try this pic on for size, it ought to sell ya! Andy
Great review! I was going to pass on this one, but after reading this... I am glad I picked him up. Easily one of my all time favourites!
Ever since pics first surfaced of this little guy I've been sold but your pictures make me want it even more. I found Brakedown yesterday, why could thay have had Armohide too
Just found Armorhide, or "Stumpy" as I like to call him. He's very short and squat. Then again, he's got no real faults to speak of, and the key gimmick is clever and doesn't get in the way of anything. (neat how the key will go in right-side-up or upside down for either mode) I wouldn't go along with the "best basic EVAR!" talk, but it's stil a very good toy, not to mention a pretty nifty Huffer homage (both in altmode and robot face)
hes ok, but best basic ever? still, killer alt mode and interesting transformation scheme. but i think the bot is underwhelming. since hes kinda like prime, reminds me of MM overload, also a blue truck cab.
I need this Transformer. Even if the robot and vehicle modes weren't cool, the transformation would still have sold me. This thing is amazing.
I just noticed that in both picture sets so far, you both missed a step. Understandable, though, since it's not listed in the instructions either, apparently . The knees slide outwards, like Prime's, so that if he stands at attention, his shins aren't touching each other. Apparently, that also rectifies the problem that some people have with loose knee joints, as they're simply not oriented properly.
actually, I took the second set of pictures... and no I didn't slide them out, honestly never have, cause whenever I stand him up, they don't quite touch, I just looked, and on mine, they're actually centered, and not even pushed in all the way... interesting. thanks for the tip! Andy
