My first experience with the Armada Blurr mold, but there's plenty of pictures out there so I'll give some comparisons for those of you who are familiar with it. Obviously the rear end of the car is completely different, but the molded in jet engine turbines look really great. The new head look a lot like the G1 cartoon Blurr, right down to the funny fin on top. And of course the slot where the minicon used to push in to release the wings is now shaped for a cyber key, Speedia version, code d0y2. Armada Blurr's guns used a minicon point to fire the missiles, the reworked versions use traditional levers. However, the pivot point on them is all the way to rear end, so it makes them rather difficult to actually fire. On the originals, a post went into a hole in the arms. The hole is still there, but the post has been replaced by a little tab that fits in Blurr's hands. Because the guns are so hard to fire, be careful when doing it while they are in the hands. I was attempting this and my hand slipped, and the gun got twisted in place, ever so slightly separating the two halves of the lower arm. Now it doesn't hold the gun quite as tightly as it used to. Also, due to the angles involved, if you just raise his arms at the elbows to hold the guns, they don't point straight ahead, but rather at an inward angle. You have to raise his arms outward at the shoulders to make it look like he's shooting at something farther than three steps away. Here's something that's probably true of Armada Blurr too - in car mode, if you've pushed the legs in as far as you can the rear wheels can't touch the ground. It also takes a lot of force to pull them back out again from there, so I'm sure they're only meant to only go most of the way in, not all the way. Even then, the bottom of the legs drag along the ground when you roll him. Color-wise Blurr is of course blue. Legs, chest, head and the inside of the shoulder panels are a darker blue than all the bits visible in car mode. Most of the red ends up on his back, but some is still visible on his arms and the wings if you have them deployed. Clear (uncolored transparent) plastic is used for his feet, upper legs, crotch plate, shoulder joints, and wheels. The headlights and conopy are yellow transparent plastic with some fine speckles/glitter mixed in. He looks great next to Cybertron Hot Shot. Recommended, especially if you don't have Armada Blurr or Universe Swerve.
This is my first experience with this mold but I dig it. The head seems a little big for the body but the fact that it looks so smuch like G1 Blurr makes up for that fact. The tabs for him to hold the guns are a bit funky. I could be mistaken but the clear bits do seem to have some color to them. They appear more 'smoke' than 'clear' to me. This is the only one of the four Armada remolds I am picking up and he is worth it.
This Blurr seems to have sparkly yellow clear parts for the windsheild and headlights, and smoky clear parts for the upper legs, shoulders, feet, and (like every good speed-planet car) tires.
I wasn't even thinking of the windshield though I should have been. Yes, mine is exactly the same in all regards.
I'm looking forward to this one. I have Universe Swerve and frankly the paint scheme on him is perfect.
It's a small touch, but I really appreciate the use of color here as a homage. The smoky gray as a tire color is inspired. I was worried that he would break the Speed planet theme of translucent tires. And the different shades of blue really reflect the G1 character. I'm more than impressed by this remold. I'm even getting Defcon vibes from him! I have the other remolds from this wave, as yet unopened, and I hope to be half as satisfied.
Don't pass up Longrack. He's probably the best out of the 4 remolds, and was one of the best Armada molds too.
Nice review, man, thanks. I picked up mine yesterday, but haven't had the chance to take him out of package. On a slightly seperate note, why don't these new key codes work? I tried Blurr's, and it doesn't work.
My son has a version of that mold and I am not impressed with it. Yes, it looks nice but it just does not speak to me enough to say 'buy me'. Maybe if he wants it, however, since he is 5 and love construction vehicles.
You WOULD love those parts. Me, I prefer to turn my head away and say, "Hey man, I don't want to see what's under there." C'mon. You left yourself wide open for that.
I picked up this little gem today, and I really like his look, its like he's hotshot's cousin or something *L* colorscheme and everything. my only complaints are the really limited articulation.. no knees, hips are really limted and so are the arms... but he looks great is has a nice transformation.. Andy
Redline, Blurr has knees. Ball and socket joint, clear gray and white. They're high up on the legs, and nearly useless in creating any pose, but they're there.
holy sh@t he does! dude, if I hadn't have rotated the legs around, I'd have NEVER found them, cause its SO freakin' stiff that it felt like I was about to break something when trying to bend them! One thing, even with knees, they don't mean a whole heck of a lot when the legs won't even rotate at the hip... they go sideways, sure, but not up... Andy
Picked up Blurr today. In robot mode armed with his two blasters he looks great. Nice paint-job, cool head sculpt. Too bad he can't look up or down, only side to side. In vehicle mode mine doesn't come together too well. His rear wheels don't touch the ground easily on mine, thanks to the bottoms halfs of his legs being too stocky. Also the front end is miss-alligned and hard to get together, probably due to his over-sized head. It prevents you from lining up the front car section with the rest of the car and it sits a few milimeters higher than the rest of the car, as the arms are pushed up by the big head. I don't know if Armada Blurr's head was smaller as this problem may not have happened with him. At least he looks good in bot mode...too bad you can barely pose him, aside from the arms. I still like him.
I've been a fan of the Blurr mold since Armada- but he's one of those guys that's almost a challenge to pose. As for the knees, if you insert the force chip (or for the Armada mold, prop up his back end with one of his guns) you can bend one of his legs at the knee for posing action! Try it out, it helps him be not such a brick.
