Got mine just a bit ago and love it. He's a beautiful figure. Just to go over a few points.

Player Mode: For the most part, really neat. Looks good 90% of the time. The back is a bit gap-y, but it's much less noticeable in person. It just looks substantial, which I really like.

Bot: Super posible. The lack of back movement in legs isn't really an issue at all. The hips are tight, but not too tight. Unless you get a particularly bad one, I wouldn't worry about breakage at all. He feels solid. The connection points he has for laserbeak is probably one of the best features of the set. Such a wonderful play feature. Overall, the best part of this guy is how playable he is. It's something that only a few MPs really have. Grimlock, MP Prime V2, and Sideswipe are the only others that really pull it off for me. He has enough articulation and gimmicks to feel fun, but he's solid enough that I don't feel I'm going to break him. Makes him a perfect desk toy.

Laserbeak: Laserbeak is both the most amazing part and most worrying at the same time. He's a wonderful piece of engineering. He's just stunning to look at and transform. Visually, the only issue is the typical cassette-bot problem. One side of the cassette looks good and the other like crap. It's not a huge deal, and completely understandable, but it holds it back from being absolute perfection. Nothing can achieve that, but hey, this is probably as close as we can get with 'Beak. The biggest problem is how tight he is. He's much more worrying than anything on Soundwave himself. The wing tips on the boosters are particularly troublesome. They probably won't break, but I really wish they were just a tad looser. Overall, though, Laserbeak is the most astounding part of this set. He's just great.

Gimmicks: Gimmicks are all pretty neat. Like the energon cube. The hand scanner is neat. Besides the fact that the displays are printed on the manual, I love the way the chest grid is implemented. It even leaves it open to make your own displays if you'd like. By far the biggest gimmick is the cassette deployment. It's quite an amazing bit of engineering, but not without some faults. When it works, it's amazing. Just the fact he can store 3 cassettes without the door protruding out like on the Soundblaster mold is impressive in itself. The deployment itself I find doesn't really work too well with G1 cassettes. They tend to get jammed. I even had the mechanism go up two slots at once. This really jammed the mechanism and I needed to carefully remove one cassette to open the door fully. With the new Laserbeak, it works almost 100% of the time. I suspect it's going to work as well with the new versions of the other guys, but who knows.

QC: Quality Control is near perfect. Back to masterpiece standards. I have a bit of overspray on the one of the leg covers, a tiny, tiny bit of missing paint on the door, and a bit of overspray on Laserbeak, but it's near enough to perfect to be unnoticeable.

Overall, I really love the guy. He's simple, but it's simple with a purpose. I wouldn't want him to be more complex. The problem that leaves me is, like with Grimlock, I just don't feel quite as impressed with him as I do with more complex pieces. Sideswipe was just amazing to fiddle with and look at. He's a marvel of engineering. Soundwave is just what you expect, and there's nothing wrong with that. It just leaves him a bit less impressive. I still love him and in no way regret the purchase, but that fact still stands. To any MP fan, he is certainly a must buy. I cannot wait to see how the other cassettes turn out. Having them all together is going to be a sight to behold.

Just got mine one hour ago.

Laserbeak is awesome. I still can't get over the fact that he is the same size as the original cassette tapes - the engineering and design that went into making this figure is simply amazing. They even included the video/camera lens on top of his head! Stunning.

    Oh, and Soundwave rocks too!

ok, so is the Megatron gun that he comes with the same as the one that came with Convoy 1.0?? I'm just curious to know if they simply added that extra hinge, or actually shrank the mold for it. I just can't decide if it's the same or not, o_O

I have the soundwave one on hand, but not the Convoy one, it's certainly no smaller than what I remember. In fact, it feels a bit longer, but that's probably just perception. The biggest change aside from the hinge is the quality of materials. This is real plastic, not the rubbery stuff like the old megs guns were. It feels great. One of my many old Megatron guns basically just disintegrated over time due to degradation of the rubber. This one feels great and sturdy.

It looks exactly the same as the mp01 version. I can't verify it for sure, but from looking at the pics and owning more than a few, I can't see any difference.

Anybody figure out what the slots that open on the inside of his feet are for?

It's been known for a while via the rumble/frenzy instructions. They store the back guns. Sadly, unless the guns are crazy small, it appears wave may only store one set.

Aside from the added hinge they're pretty much identical.

I can take some crappy iPhone photos of it if you want. They aren't very exciting.

I like that the hand attachment thing can also plug into him in tape player mode to imitate that scene from TFTM where he connects to the computer.

Just got him. All is good except light scratches on the tape window. Damn you takara and your shitty QC! It's like someone deliberately went back and forth with a needle. The only MP I haven't had an issue with is Red Alert. I'm starting to get sick of this crap.

got mine today and he got that small nick on his face, but its tolerable i guess, well not really should be no excuse and his thighs have some bad flash too.

    ugh.

and for those wondering, his feet will deff only store one set of frenzy/rumble weapons.

Last night I was fiddling around with Soundwave and noticed what looked like scratches in the tape deck window. Upon closer inspection though, I realized that there is some techy detailing in the corners of the window! They look to be pretty asymetrical as well, but definitely are intentional as they have definite shapes. Just a neat little touch, I thought.

I believe that this may quell your fan boy rage.. :p
On a side note, I was lucky enough not to experience any noticeable bad QC in terms of paint apps and joint problems. Phew.

No it's not that. It's scratches. Damn all this long wait, all this excitement, all that drooling and its come down to this. And I have to deal with robot kingdom to top things off. Fark this shit.
