What am I looking for? Is it under the shadow of the sides of his face-plate so not clear on the camera?
The very left of the faceplate has an imperfection. Mine has it too. But I don't really care...cause this toy is freaking amazing. The more I play with it, the more I love it. As a tape deck, it has more heft and mass than the old one, and looks more like it did in the cartoon when the human characters would pick him up with both hands. Boxy yes, but it works for me. Really has a G1 cartoon vibe to it. In robot mode, this thing is PERFECT. His arms can hold any pose you want, and on mine at least, all the joints are nice and tight. No floppiness. Legs are little stiffer due to really tight ratchets, but he stands really well so no issue for me. He can hold his gun perfectly unlike MP Rodimus, that flimsy, floppy POS. Soundwave feels SOLID. Not as heavy as MP 01 like one reviewer complained, but light years ahead of MP 09. With the waist swivel and neck swivel, you can get some cool poses, as well as the arms and the rotating shoulder cannon. He looks so bad ass. Like he walked off the screen from the G1 cartoon!! And Laserbeak is a freaking work of art. I worry about rubbing the paint off transforming him, but nothing can really be done about that. His articulated legs make such a difference in posing. He looks perfect on either the arm or the shoulder! And he's tight too...he's not gonna fall off! I love this toy....can't put it down!!
If you can't see it, all the better I think. It's an extremely minor nitpick so unless you go looking for it you won't find it. Word is that 50% of what was distributed was rushed out to meet demand. Might be the reason for the somewhat haphazard QC. I've heard 2 reports from toy owners about MP-13's door mechanism not working (I suspect this should be an easy fix, more than likely a spring misalignment) but more seriously a copy of the toy not being to bend at the knees thus being unable to transform. I think we need to wary of this for every first run of an MP toy. I lucked out remarkably this time.
Yeah, I know there's speculation that Galvatron is going out before Megatron but personally, I rather have Megatron first. It's ironic that we have two of Megatron's right hand man but still no news on the big guy himself. I get the comparison with Bandai's SOC line but IMO the plastic quality isn't that bad. But I agree that the price point is hefty and it should be priced at around SGD$150ish. For the price we paid, I would expect a higher diecast content or more extras. I'm a die hard G1 and i agree that the pricing isn't competitive as compared to a SOC. Then again, IMO Bandai makes the best collector robot toys. I guess the 'premium' we paid for is that this toy is a pretty good homage to a pretty cool TF in the history if TF.
I see maybe an iGear head for a yellow visored Soundwave somewhere down the line...hopefully. Yeah, I've transformed this guy a lot which is something you wouldn't do on a chogokin. This is a very playable upscaled G1 figure.
If you're referring to the infamous mode in MTMTE, I believe one of TakaraTomy's designers did so on one site - not sure if it was a Twitter account?
Got mine yesterday and I love it! Soundwave is truly a fantastic figure. At first, I was shocked by how light he is (my sister-in-law joked I probably just received an empty box), but once that initial shock gets past you, you realize just how awesome a figure he is. The poseability is everything you could ask for in a Soundwave figure and I can confirm what Optibotimus mentioned a few pages back, there is indeed some rearward motion in the hips without having to rotate the thighs around. QC was pretty good on mine, just a couple of tiny blemishes on the gold trim of the cassette door and what seemed like a hair in the red trim on his left fore-arm, but it came off easily enough. Honestly though, I think Laserbeak is the star of this set. The engineering in that little guy is mind-blowing. I can't wait to see what Ravage will be like. All in all, this is a must-have for any Soundwave, G1 and/or Masterpiece fans. Well done, TakTom, well done indeed.
Badlander86, mine has that slightly loose elbow joint too. Not enough a nuisance for me to recommend against tho. I actually got to choose from 2 samples in shop, the one i passed on has some blotchy paint app on the decks gold rim, hopefully thats isolated.
Still fiddling with MP-13 and the joints holds. The scary ratcheted hips are of no concern. I TFed him roughly 3-5 timea a day. And just pulled a prank on the Mrs by pretending to ask her why the deck is not functioning.
That seems to be the most common paint issue that I notice actually. My friends and I nerded out with our Soundwaves. All of us have good overall transformers, mine had oversprayed silver on the head and black spots on gold of the cassette door. In Deck mode on the right thigh, there is a VERY obvious spot of a finger print where a factory worker might have touched the toy while the paint was drying. Not sure how to remove that without scraping off the paint in the area, painting over it won't help either but in robot mode the spot is in Soundwave's inner thigh so it doesn't really bother me too much. By the way, these aren't complaints. Just observations to see what the general consensus of QC is like on this particular release.
I was wondering since i watched optibotimuss review, can you use the chest gimmick to launch the cassesttes? Like if you push it back one click inside, then set a tape against it, leave the chest door open, and press the switch om his back will it shoot out? Cause if so that is awesome!!
It's possible. That happened in the video review when the chest wasn't closed. I wouldn't do it, though. I'd suspect you'd risk damaging the door and its hinge with the cassette slamming into it, possibly the mechanism, and the tape of course. There's a reason they say specifically to shut the door each time you launch one forward. Better safe than sorry.
Ok i dont have it so just wondering if it was possible. And it is. im waiting till the hasbro release so hopefully it has the same spring power.
Got mine today, love it. Only issue is when in deck mode the door doesn't spring open consistently. What's with the panels that open on the insides of his feet? Are they to make his feet look wider? They don't seem to have any other purpose.
Got mine today, love it! But....... He has ringworm on his face. Looks like they missed a spot and added some silver later on. Honestly, the paint looks pretty pathetic on most of the face. Guess I'll check with BBTS and see what can be done.
