I agree. The plastic used on him is not as thick or solid as many would prefer, but it does the job. I'll admit that I would have liked harder materials or a more solid than hollow-chested design, but I still really like the figure. Few look more intimidating, and he's stood fine and kept any pose I've placed him in.

I just bought mine today, and I agree with many of the comments about the dino mode. Proportions are a off with the lack of mass in the midsection and a fat, lump of a tail. I'm not complaining too much about it since the trade-off is a nice looking and well articulated robot mode, but I'd have like the alt mode to be a bit more imposing and posable.

Some may think he feels a bit light and hollow, but that pays off to me since it allows him to be a decent size.

No QC problems on mine at all and I definitely don't regret buying him.

    Hahahaha.

I just got Grimlock today, and I really owe a lot of gratitude to the reviews this guy has received. As it is, I feel that if I had gotten this figure blind, I would've been severely disappointed in him. As I've been seeing a lot of reviews with all of the toy's flaws being pointed out, my reaction to each of these was "Is that flaw really that much of a problem?" Now that I've actually handled him myself I'm like "Hahaha, now I get why they're so disappointed." :lol

So, the irony is that all of these reviews have resulted in my lowering of expectations of this toy that brought about a situation where I've ended up being highly satisfied with a figure I would've otherwise have been severely disappointed in. :D

So thank you very much, TFW2005 reviewers. :thumb

Glad to be of service. Hahaha.

I'm going to start painting my Grimlock up soon. Still debating a full repaint or just adding details. My biggest current disappointment is the mismatched plastic color on the dino arms compared to the main body. Hasbro was just lazy there.

Got this guy today. He's a nice display piece in either robot or dino mode, but I don't find Grimmy all that fun as far as a toy goes. He's hollow and light and kinda cheap-feeling in the hand. Articulation is odd; the shoulder joints in bot mode are a bit daft as they are as hip joints in dino mode; some of the ratchets are overly tight but I guess it beats being overly loose.

Compare this to RiD Ultra Magnus; that mold I find fun as hell despite having some similar hollow/light/cheap plastic. But Grimmy's uber hollow chest is exponentially worse than any of Magnus's issues. At least the light up gimmick for the dino head and bot chest works as advertised. I put Grimmy into my TFP Wreckers display and he looks pretty cool as a part of the team.

I really hope this trend of cheap KO-feeling plastic doesn't extend to Generations Blitzwing and Springer. At this point after being disappointed by Shockwave and Starscream, I'm pretty much done with FoC (Kickback was the only real pleasant surprise). I saw Wave 2 (Ultra Magnus, Sideswipe, Air Raid, Starscream) at the same store I got Grimmy and they were priced at $15.... um, no thanks. Grimmy feels somewhat like an uneven purchase even at $20 (tax free) despite my liking the character design overall.

Finally got this guy yesteday and after reading countless comments and reviews about him feeling cheap and hollow, in hand he honestly to me doesnt feel that way at all.
Yes, he is hollow but by no means do I feel he is going to fall apart nor does his plastic feel like rubber.
His quality feels A LOT better than Prime and Jazz and his joints are tight and can suprisingly hold some good poses despite being top heavy.
Paint apps arent bad and if I wasnt planning on repainting him, I could live with the paint.

I gotta say, Im not a fan of the head sculpt but its got nice light piping.
Im ok with the dino mode being less than mediocre but the way the shoulders are attached and articulated is a little worrying. I feel like im going to snap it off everytime I pose him.

All in all I like him, definitly my favorite so far of all the FOC line. I dont own Kickbak yet but looking forward to getting him.
    Worth picking up IMO!

This is about as G1-esque as I can pose FoC-Grimmy tonite. Too bad I don't have any apron and bowtie for his size:

    :D

fwiw, I think he's both kinda ok and kinda meh at the same time. Definitely not quite as good as FoC-Blaster, but oh well.

Jeebus, he's small in alt mode. How much does he weigh? Looks like he has about as much plastic in him as the old deluxes.

Poor Hasbro can't get a break. They make an Animated Grimlock and people complain that the dino head is sitting on the back. They make a cavity in the chest for the FOC Grimmy so the head can be hidden more. People still complain.

I like it. Sure, the plastic could be better but, I don't think it is going to break as easily as some people think.

Man...I just dont get it. I picked up mine at TRU which is what? Almost $28?
Im not a super tight wad, but its just getting nuts. Thats alot of cash to me. Yea, I have disposable income..yea I blow it on toys..but im getting tired of pulling something that LOOKS great in the package, and when you get it out, its a ball of shit!

I LOVE Hasbro as a company, but thier cutbacks are really turning me off. Then you get guys that say "Eh..quit complaining...its only X amount of money" If I STOP all hasbro purchases what does that do for Hasbro? Nothing. If more guys like me get tired of how cheap this shit is getting, and all of the collectors just start saving money for 3rd party stuff, Transformers will go the way of GIJOE..life support..not putting out shit. Ive emailed Hasbro, Got a generic response back...I get it, But I DO give a shit about Hasbro. If the trend like FOC grimlock continues, im just gunna look at everything on the web and keep my money for my other hobbies. I get a hell of alot more joy out of a box or two of ammo than FOC Grimlock. I got the combaticons in a trade deal next to free. They were all MOC, Although the engineering is spectacular, they are rinky tink cereal box quality balls of shit quality wise. Ratchet joints USED to have a standard of a mechanical device, like a cam, spring, parts to make up a joint that will last. These "ratchets joints are just detents in the plastic with another piece of plastic camming into them. Yeaaa...that will last a week with a kid playing with it. how many spots do you look at with these modern TFS and say "Should have had a metal pin there" it would have a couple years ago..now we get arms, panels and legs that just pop out...further weakening the joint itself.

Hopefully things clean up with the new toyfair pics Ive seen. FOC Grimlock is just not a good toy. It may be fine to sit on a shelf and never touch..but when you pick him up and feel that cheap ass thing, it makes you wonder if its worth all that cash spent on him, and others of recent release.

This new Grimlock toy is a display piece only.

I can't really give it more than a 7/10, and I really like the new Soundblaster more.. but, Grimlock is still a great robot mode display piece.

I.E. still cool to look at, but not really a toy.. as I feel kids would break this easily.

I honestly want Hasbro to raise costs and make the toys better.
I'd rather be paying 20-25 for deluxes and 30-35 for voyagers that actually will last a decade before some new crappy crumbling plastic syndrome sets in.
Maybe the new toys won't have issues years down the road.. but I bet that's wishful thinking.

My issue is that the hollowed out chest cavity doesn't really conform to the dino head in bot mode (and it doesn't really lock or tab into place at all, so it kinda hangs somewhat loosely back there). The outer shell conforms to the shoulder-turned-hip joints in dino mode but they effectively lock the legs in place and hinder any articulation whatsoever, so all you'll get out of t-rex mode is a standing pose. Dino is pretty much a brick, similar to Thundertron's winged lion mode.

I could not agree more. I have no problem paying more money for quality. But at these prices, these turrets feel like a complete rip off, and I'm not trying to start another one of THOSE debates...

Honestly...where I'm at...I would happily pay $20+ for some ROTF deluxes with premium paint jobs. I buy GDO powerdive..now THAT'S a voyager...compare that to FOC grimlock..jeesh...cheap ball of shit has me pissed.

I like Grimlock, but I got him half off. For full price he'd be pretty bad. He gets the same sort of pass as deluxe kickback. Pretty decent robot mode, awful alt mode. Not bad for half price.

He certainly doesnt feel anywhere near as high quality as Soundwave.

Yeah... by the time prices reach $25 for a deluxe and $35 for a Voyager I'll be long gone from collecting them. And I doubt I'd be alone. At $15+ for a deluxe, quality should be better now. Although actually, the latest deluxes don't seem that bad.

I grabbed a FOC Grimlock... I remember all the people complaining about Classics Grimlock back in the day, and now he goes for $100+ on ebay. I'm not wowed by ANY of the FoC designs, but figured this is the best Grimlock for a while, and one day, somewhere out there will be a collector who passed on it and is now kicking himself, and doesn't want to pay $150+ ebay prices... I'll offer it for $60, and it'll be win/win...
