Picked up this guy today. Transformed him a few times.

Over all, he gets a thumbs up as a Transformers "pose and never touch again" statue. Thumbs way down on him if you need playablity in bot mode; the knees and shoulders are too difficult to work with.

Dino mode works as a gimmic mount for smaller figures. So thats that. And Grimlock's weapons do make a nice upgrade set for deluxe sized bots (like WFC optimus, especially the black repaint).

This really should be a better toy. Sigh.

Finally saw one in stores, snatched him up.

Dino Mode - Well it sorta looks alright, if you squint, from really far away.

Robot Mode - Love it, big, powerful, pure Grimlock

Weapons - Sword is a very good size, that shield though it laughable.

I'm happy with him, glad to have paid retail, anything over $25 and I would have felt taken advantage of.

Yeah, stores in my area have just skipped over the FOC Voyager waves. They've gone right to the BH Voyager waves.

So I'll either be waiting for the Megatron repaint or going through eBay.

Finally found Grimlock at Walmart last night.

The T-Rex mode is awkward at best and that gaping hole where the dino chest should be is awful. But it's much better than what we got in Generations.

The bot mode is what it's all about though. That is Grimlock done (almost) right. I don't like the gray color of the head, hands and legs, so I'll paint them. I'll paint the abdomen red too. The sword is great, if loose. The shield will go in the junk pile. I really wish it came with a double-barrelled blaster, but I heard Sideswipe's gun looks pretty good. Again, an amazing improvement over the Generations release. That figure was just awful.

I miss the wings from the G1 design. I'll bet if they tried they could close up the hole in the dino chest with something that could then convert to the wings in bot mode. This figure will most likely stay in robot mode on my shelf, so I guess that doesn't really matter.

Second best Grimlock yet, behind only Masterpiece Grimlock.

if only the sword was longer. But Mechtech Voyager Prime's Axe looks very nice as another weapon for Grimlock

if only TFP Ultra Magnus Hammer was orange instead of blue....it match would perfectly too

At the risk of :deadhorse:  his dino mode is just awful. My gosh what a turd. No hip articulation, so no cool dino poses. I just leave the legs outside the main body, so they can turn. Makes him look like one of those ridiculous cars with the wheels that stick way out of the fenders, but at least he can "move" a little better. The hollow body is of course just the worst part. The sword and shield mod helps.

I also trimmed the inside of his big honkin' tail, the flat thin walls that rst against the rear of the torso. Now he can bend that big butt upwards to stand up straighter.

Robot mode is pretty good, no complaints. You can trigger his head light and it lights up his whole chest, not sure if that was intended but it's pretty neat.

I'll post some pics here if the OP doesn't mind.

Yeah, the light up chest gimmick is one of the selling points (in Hasbros eyes), so yeah, it was intentional... What's the sword and shield mod?

It's funny...with all the hate on this guy, I thought he'd be readily available. Still have yet to see one in store and tru online sold out the second day it was up for purchase. I mean, it's only twenty bux guys.. I am going into the buy with the lowest of the low of expectations. It is king grimlock after all and not going to rape my wallet like an mp. Let see what happens..

Yeah, the more I mess around with him, the more disappointed I get. His robot mode is alright, the shoulders are a big issue. Dino mode is just bleh. Back to the store he goes.

It is a simple mod that uses his weapons to fill in his empty chest a bit.

    1) Using a drill, widen the screw hole that is at the base of his tail in Dino mode to make it a 5 mm port.

    2) Place the sword's peg into the hole so the blade points towards his head.

    3) Wedge the shield with the bottom towards Grimlock's chin. If done right, it should rest in the empty spaces in his legs, giving him a 'burning chest' look, as if he were in Rage mode.

That really should have been a factory option - but great idea all the same.

was excited about scoring him today.grimlock is a major favorite of mine...but all i can say is are you fucking kidding me??its horrible, feels like the parts are going to snap when you try and pose him, looks better in the package.what a major dissapointment the whole FOC cybertron line, the deluxes, bruticus and now this?? the plastic they are using has carried over to beast hunters too i noticed..i picked up prime voyager as well the absolute biggest piece of crap..the only way to describe it is the plastic feels like the plastic balls you jump into.anybody want these 2 pm me because they are going back..PREDAKING on the other hand is pretty cool, dragon and robot take away from that cheap plastic they are using.sorry guys just needed to vent.lol.

Hey man..were in the same boat. There's 3 sides...the pragmatic guys like us that go in open minded, and look at this as a complete turf, cheap plastic, horrible design, lazy execution...then there's the guys that defend it just because they feel the need to, then the tete are the people that genuinely love this. Fine to them

But anyone that tries to tell me that this is not cheap ass plastic, and a hollow, light toy that feels like it can break everytime I touch it, they try and tell me that this is high quality, then bullshit...

The guys that genuinely line this, cool, I'm happy for ya, but if you even read a few posts in this thread you will see posts like "hate the dino mode..bot mode arms are funky, feet and legs are bad....BUT I LOVE IT"

    what the F&$@ is that?!?!?

Any of you guy that don't have this yet..just don't go out and bust your ass to find it. I went in with a giftcard, and VERY low expectations, and I'm telling you, this is a junk transformer.

I'm not sure what my expectations were. I'd heard both "awesome figure!" and "hollow piece of crap"... Now that I have him in hand, it's a case of lovers and haters. Now, obviously, this isn't everyone, but the most vocal are the most polarized.

Then again... there's a lot to be polarized about this guy. Bot mode is awesome, I can't say anything negative about it -- oh. What's with these shoulders? There's a bunch of movement in them, but not all in useful ways. However, the sword and shield are totally badass.

Transformation is both unimpressive and impressive at the same time. It's simple and fun, but again, the bot shoulders turning into the dino hips... that whole area really could have been better designed. I think this is a case of trying too hard and making it too complicated and less effective.

If you want a Grimlock that just looks awesome (and isn't the MP version), this one is great. If you have high standards for an alt mode, this guy's a loser. I like him, but he's definitely not for everyone, which is sad. I feel like they tried really hard with this figure, but had a lot of budget issues to deal with. I'm disappointed he didn't come out as well as Soundwave/Blaster did.

I don't think he's bad at all, but he's also missing a bunch of factors that make for a great figure. On the plus side... the light-up gimmick is integrated nearly perfectly. I kinda wish it came with an Animated-style mouth fireball to light up with that LED.
