I'm guessing that Masterpiece Sideswipe has overshadowed this guy's release, but I thought I'd start a feedback thread of his own. This is the third release of this set of figures, and the second to be sold in a giftset.

This will be a fairly basic overview of the set with comparisons to the SDCC version (I don't yet have the mainline version) version. Short thoughts; I think that this is a very nice set, and excellent value - especially if you can get it for $60 (living in the UK I paid a bit more for mine). In general the only downside to the set as a whole is the sacrificing of some other paint applications in order to budget for the camo patches.

    I'll start with induvidual members:
    Vortex:

Rather fetching blue and purple colourscheme. In robot mode camo shows up on legs and shoulders. G2 Decepticon logos on sides of helicopter fuselage/robot arms.

    Blast Off:

Very bright white for Blast Off, so apologies if he disappears into the white background. Very little of his camo is visible in robot mode, but the combination of white with a dark colour gives his shuttle mode a slight bovine feel. G2 logos on his shuttle wings/robot legs.

    Brawl:

Brawl seems to change the least between his variations. His green is bright without being neon, whilst his guns are left black. He also shows best what I meant by missing paint apps; his entire thruster assembly is left unpainted. It doesn't look terrible, but I'd have liked to have seen some colour there. He has a G2 logo on the front of his tank mode, and another on his robot chest.

    Swindle:

Swindle's new red look makes him feel very dark, not helped by his black exhaust pipes, black gun, completely black wheels and even a completely black head (besides his eyes, which like all the others in the set are orange). G2 logo is on the front of his vehicle mode/robot chest. It's also worth noting that I found his shoulders much easier to transform than the SDCC one's.

    Onslaught:

Onslaught is Hasbro's 'brighter than Bumblebee' yellow that they save for special occasions. He also makes use of quite a lot of purple, and is probably the strangest looking in the set. He actually does quite well in the paint department, his wheels get yellow hubs and his front grill gets a fair bit of attention. Unfortunately I cannot get his arms (and by extension his gun) to sit flat in vehicle mode, which is a small point against him.

For those not aware, this set is engineered so that any of the limb robots can from any limb. He comes packaged in the standard 'Blast Off and Vortex arms, Brawl and Swindle legs' combination, but I've mixed it up a little for these pictures.

    Burly arms:

    Burly legs comparison:

    Gentlemanly handshake:

    Or brothers in arms:

If you like what you see from pictures of this guy, then I'd say go for it, but if the bright colours aren't to your taste I'd go for one of the others, he sears the eyes just as much in person. I like him though, maybe not as much as the SDCC version, but he's a well thought out and well priced exclusive. The box is worth a mention too, being a combination of inky black with an explosion of fluorescent colours and oddly proportioned artwork, it feels just like I'm back in '94 (only this time I'm not two. It's actually quite different to be honest).

    And to finish:

THAT'LL TEACH YOU TO STEAL MY THUNDER!

    Thanks.

You know, didn't realize how little purple Brawl had in bot mode... bit disappointing, since he had a TON of purple back in G1 (including an all-purple head!).

Still HATE the fact Swindle's visor isn't purple.

Looks like I'm going to get some purple paint and touch up the guy when I get him. Can't wait!

I like how Blast-off now resembles a grinning skeleton. I much prefer his and Vortex's G2 colors.

Love the colors on this set. So wacky, bright, and absurd; somehow works on both the individual and combined level; it's just wonderful. No clue as to why this set works while the retail doesn't, but hey, I'm saving a good bit of money, effort, and time this way; can't complain there.
Might have to get some black paint and a silver Sharpie for some touch-ups, and do something about Swindle's lack of the traditional big eyes, but overall it looks to be an amazing set.

It works because while they're all brightly colored, they're brightly colored and united with a secondary color of bright purple. Of the three Brutici, this one has the most uniform color scheme. The closest thing SDCC has to a theme is "bland" but even then the red and gold Vortex stands out. Energon is just... bright colors with no central theme at all.

This set is worth it for Vortex alone. The G2 colourscheme is simply gorgeous on that mold. A little too bland on the actual G2 toy due to its lack of surface detail, but here, it really shines.

I really dig how this looks, save for Onslaught. The Combaticons look great, but Onslaught looks a bit too cheap, unfortunately. :(

If his head was black like on the box, it'd look a lot better.

This was the set that I sprung for, since I have my FP Colossus set with RotF/Universe Bruticus for my G1 colors... and he was cheaper.

I like each of the molds. I don't love any of them, but I like em all. I'm particularly fond of Swindle's size in bot mode, even if he's very lightweight. They're all very lightweight, even combined. But I guess the mold reviews go best in the other thread... Oh, PS, you are AWESOME, Allosaur - I couldn't figure out why I couldn't get Onslaught's head to come all the way up... guess I needed to see it on the G2 version... just had to push past the tabs. His bot mode is many points better now... though those arms are still pretty silly.

I'm glad I got the set. They're not the greatest toys in the world, technically speaking, but they're all a lot of fun. I think the G2 colorscheme kinda helps remind me that they're just fun, and not to take it too seriously. I think Brawl is the only one that has a proper elbow joint as an arm, which KINDA bugs me (especially since I like him as a leg), but... meh. This toy is for play and fiddling with, not super dynamic posing, at least in my house.

So very glad I got this set. I'd really like to see a gallery of different ways to transform the limbs as arms... I can't figure out how to transform Blast Off and Swindle in a way I really like.

He does look kinda KOish based on the colors, but in person, I don't really think so, especially with the paint apps on the chest/grill and waist. He's very light, like I was saying above, but it's lack of plastic, not quality of plastic.

I love my set so much, and I've noted the easier should transformation on Swindle as well. Maybe that's been addressed and fixed on the upcoming Swindle figures.

Also, anyone else have any paint mishaps like my Vortex? :lol

The one black paint-app on his chest is painted too high.

Nice review and comparison shots, thanks! I have no regrets about cancelling my pre-order for this guy, I'm really not that into this Bruticus design in any of its variant colors and configurations. It's a good effort but I just don't need it in my collection.

I'm loving this set. So much fun to mess around with. How did you get Onslaught's head that high up? Every time I push it higher, it feels like I'm going to snap something?

I hold Onslaught's face and the back of Bruticus's head and push... it's tight to get it past the tabs at first.

That's a nice demonstration, thank you for posting it. I don't think anyone is really surprised.
