I wonder how they stack up versus RotF Scouts, though.

Energon Basics were probably the heaviest that size class has ever been, so the results are skewed just a little bit.

I mean, it's no doubt that modern TFs are still lighter. But the size reductions had been happening gradually even before then.

Could it be that these figures are lighter due to the fact Hasbro was trying to keep the weight down for the combination gimmick?

This sounds reasonable, but the other FoC figures are also pretty lightweight.

To be fair, deluxe Vortex was a tiny bit heavier than his Energon Blackout counterpart. Just a tiny bit... It was like the reverse of the tank limbs.

I don't mind with the missing paint applications but Onslaughts head being molded in purple really kills this set for me.

Thanks for the review TC. It has made me realize I don't really like the bruticus figure so i cancelled my order on bbts and used to buy FE Starscream and preordered FOC ultra magnus and starscream

I have one of these on the way, mostly for the colours on Vortex, he looks better with blue than yellow to me and the retail colours just look a bit gash.

I'll probably get another Swindle, Onslaught and Tomy Blast Off but I am looking forward to having this guy in hand.
