I got this guy in the mail today. Spent the afternoon assembling it and man, do i love this thing. It's awesome in all three modes. I love how they replaced the helipad with a command pad for Cerebros. Another neat thing about Fortress Maximus is the spring-loaded launcher on his ramp in City Mode. The spring might be a little too strong for it's own good, but i'd rather have a spring that's too strong than one that's too weak. He's missing some minor features such as the hand-cranked elevator and the rotating radardish, but makes up for it with the new Cerebros-Helipad interactivity, and the fact that you can split him into three things that could generously be called Command Posts. Scale-wise he's not a bad figure to own either, as in the Marvel comics he started out as tall as the other Transformers, and got upgraded to be only about twice as tall as a regular one. Windcharger is not a bad looking figure, even if his arms are just featureless sticks. Some of his stickers look great, others not so much. I think i can forgive the figure for that considering he's as big as the top digit of my index finger. Powerglide however... I'm not sure if this is just mine, but if i so much as try to pick him up, he explodes. That's not an exaggeration, i've literally had to search for his parts every single time i tried to pick him up. I might have to glue his torso shut or something. He's also very bland-looking compared to Windcharger and Cerebros. His only stickers are two Autobot stickers that the instructions tell you to put right up against each other. All in all, i am very glad i bought this set. It looks good as a collection piece, is a great way to have a Marvel-scaled (or just generally shelfspace-appropriate) Fortress Maximus and is fun to mess around with to boot. If i wasn't excited about the upcoming Encore Fortress Maximus before, this figure has damn sure made me excited. ... Oh, i guess Kabaya sells candy too. The gum was pretty good.
I still have a couple extra boxes if anyone needs to complete a full set. mines quite solid, not even his arms are loose. Must be a variance thing.
His arms aren't loose on mine either, it's just the moment anything touches him the front of his torso just flies off for no discernable reason, which in turn causes the arms to just fall out. I have no idea why it's doing this, the chestplate doesn't seem too loose or too tight to me.
I bought two for both modes. I love em, because of this I bought the hot spot and deathsaurus. I am happily awaiting the limbs for defensor. The only complaint I have is the crappy stickers. Oh and Windchargers legs pop off mine as well. Other than that spectacular. Oh and for those who did paint apps.....pics please
And for no Particular reason, here's some scans of the instructions. Windcharger, with Guard Tower 1 Cerebros, with Guard Tower 2 Powerglide, with Guard Tower 3 And last but not least: Fortress Maximus fully assembled. So yeah. Those are instructions. Maybe i should've scanned them in before i assembled the kits because man, they sure are a lot clearer and easier to see this way.
Great kit. I didn't glue anything or put the stickers on. May paint it a bit and hope repo labels puts something out.
I only painted the eyes, folding face cover and head wings (or whatever) on mine. I love how he looks next to G1 Headmaster toys.
Maybe one of our many shapeways users could throw together an adapter piece to let this use older headmasters. I don't own this figure yet, but I asume this uses a different connection
Wouldn't work, his head is much smaller than the original headmaster heads and there isn't enough space to hold an original one.
Looking at the pick above they looked about the same. That's why I said it. Guess it's just a forced perspective thing
I think with his body being slightly bigger than a G1 Headmaster it makes his head seem bigger than it is, because I agree that they don't look vastly different in my earlier pic. I'll post a shot of his head with a G1 head later.
