Whoa, that thing's satisfyingly HUGE! ...but $50 + shipping (or tax at retail)? Yikes. Even if it was a little more articulated and a little less Optimusy, that's still more costly than I'd like.

We actually know for an actual fact that it will be $30 if you live in the USA. Unless you're pointlessly importing it.
Dammit, just shot a Voyager Predaking missile whoknowswhere. Can anyone spare one?

OP, How durable is the thing? On par with the Ark? My boy has had his Ark since Christmas and nothing is broke or anything
Regarding the plastic used on Optimus Maximus, it is certainly not the usual solid plastic used on our other current transformers toys and it probably cannot be so cos this thing got quite a lot of "holes" in between. If they are to use the same solid plastic from the normal toys, this thing is gonna break easily. I can't really pinpoint which other transformers toy has the same kind of plastic used but it is the flexible sort of plastics, maybe something like the shapeways "strong & flexible" plastic (I may be wrong but hope you all get some kind of idea from there). I personally do not think the plastics used is any inferior or anything but I think hasbro may have used this type of plastic due to the nature or design of the toy (ie with many "holes").

I don't own the dotm Ark, but I think dotm Ark should be using a solid plastic like the rest of the transformers toys, however I don't see this plastic used on Optimus Maximus as not durable or breaking easily etc.

This thing weighs about 1.5kg (without its box packaging) with a few other cyberverse figures on it.

Since its only $30 usa, I may get it. It's not a bad looking figure (to me), but it could have been so much better if they'd filled in the holes, and given him a real transformation.
Now... light our darkest hour.

Not so hot about this. I'd rather have Metroplex, preferably close to G1.

Being an Optimus fan, had to have one now. Got one this morning. This thing should have been called Omega Turd. Soft plastic, useless joints (hips, elbows and ankles) for the most part, lame rolling battle transport mode that just looks like the robot sitting on its ass (zero attempt at hiding the fists or the head). The electronics are alright though, and there's a little gimmick on the left shoulder: if you move the platform side-to-side, the black cannon under rotates. Looks better when loaded with Cyberverse toys, but seriously, I've never seen such a lazy design. They didn't even try. Definitely not recommended unless on super duper clearance.

Btw, in robot mode, he can really only hold 7 figures. 9 figures is just for battle transport mode.

Selling my collection here. From G1 to now, Botcon, 3rd party, name it. Updated 04.30.13.

Thanks man, I was just wondering because the swiss cheese look made me wonder if it would hold up to a kid that is pretty gentle with his TFs

Btw, there's no way that thing weighs 1.5kg. Even loaded with figures, it still feels light. Well under 1kg.à

Oh, and another flaw: you'd think the light in the middle of the chest would light up the clear gun in transport mode, but it doesn't!

For $30 MSRP, it seems reasonable to me. Collectors are expecting a top-of-the-line toy simply because it is a base former. Hasbro is clearly targeting playset and carrying case, instead.

Given a choice between this and an Ark playset (both roughly the same MSRP), I suspect most kids would go for this in a heartbeat.

This isn't some leader, masterpiece, or supreme toy targeted at least in part art collectors.
