It occurs to me that I forgot to take vehicle mode pics. At least the head will be hidden in those!

I think it's mainly the smile he has coupled with the eyes, makes it have so much of a "herp-derp" vibe. Overall I love the mold and think it looks great in these colors.

So this whole thread is now making fun of one guy? That's cool I guess. This fandom is really good at putting some holes in some greenhouses, isn't it?

Haha yeah, it looks like hes about to burp and sneeze at the same time or something! I wonder if they're all like this, doubtless there are subtle variations but this probaby won't help any fans sitting on the fence who kinda want to like this and are coming around to where the TCC were going here. While I cannot comment definitively on how the paint apps were done it looks like the black was painted over the whites of the eyes. What I've learnt long ago when I was into painting wargaming miniatures is to paint the black on the eyes first and then dab the white in from the corners to avoid the staring effect and its many comical variations. ;)

    This.

Actually, I got a major Centurions vibe from this. Ace McCloud anyone?

Thunderwing was an excellent mold choice for Metalhawk. And now we have 3 Pretender homages from the same figure. I love metalhawk's deco, it matches his pretender shell perfectly which is what all the other pretender homages have done because quite frankly the shells were more memorable designs, the inner robots were bland and uninteresting. The only snafu of corse being the human face, the decepticon pretenders got away with their updates because their monstrous shells translated better into robot designs. I think trying this out with Metalhawk was a bold move by funpub, and one I'm glad they did cuz Hasbro sure as hell won't. After all its not Bumblebee and how dare something that isn't Bumblebee. Exist within Transformers! (Still bitter I can't find a vehicon). The crosseyed thing? I don't mind in fact its stupidly endearing, like a really dumb dog, you can't help but love it.

The funny thing is that the almost 25 year old toy has a more detailed and better painted head than this one.

Better painted maybe, but it's a significantly larger head. I wouldn't say it's more detailed, it's a pretty nondescript face really.

The thing is, u find this a common prob with regular action figures, u always have to look out for paint apps of the eyes which is really easy to screw up.

I think its just hasbro being sloppy, i rarely see this prob with mattel, bandai.

Does anyone own both this Metalhawk (or Thunderwing or Sky Shadow) and TFP RID Optimus Prime? I'm curious if that sword that comes with RID Optimus Prime will fit in Metalhawk's hand. It doesn't look like Metalhawk's vintage sword but it is light gray and about the right size.

Hmmmm, good question. Will have to try when I get home. I do know it fits in Bludgeon's (the movie-verse Wreckage repaint) hand.
