I'm almost certain it won't actually be shiny-- the stock photos for AM Bulkhead looked shiny, and when we finally got in-hand pics, he had the same unpainted look as the previous ones.

Just got him, and I was glad to find that he was a lot better then he looks in pictures.

He's definitely not perfect, but he's certainly passable (would've loved the yellow rims, though).

One thing I feel the need to bring up, though: why the hell does his bio make him out to be Swindle?

WHOA thank you for posting that! I was about to ask you for a more elaborate tutorial but I figured it out, the grey head/neck plate doesn't really plug into the cyclinder but having it pushed against there and using the tension of the spring against the 2 chest halves does "lock" everything into place. I was having a hell of a time trying to transform this until I figured that out. Thanks!

Wow. I had no idea the chest plate pops out like that until I found this thread (through google, no less). He looks MUCH better now. :)

it's actually a great figure. nice, accurate enough molding and, though it's hampered by the window kibble, very expressive articulation.

primary flaw is the lack of paint apps, but once you transform it /correctly/ (can't stress this enough), he looks great and is fun to pose or play with!

literally all you need to bring this guy from alright to great is a little experience with sharpies. that's all i used here. no paint. and i haven't even added the yellow yet
(you'll notice i also cut the weird middle electric jolt in his cattle prod. i think it looks better this way)

really, this figure is just really unphotogenic and often mistransformed. don't let the pics fool you, cuz in hand, he's great

It needs paint tbh and a lot. I'm still working on mine after about a week retweaking things when I thought I was done. Over time those Sharpies will bleed into the plastic and it'll look bad. I'm sure you hadn't planned on selling it or anything anyway but it's gonna stain the shit out of it after it rubs off. Paint markers aren't nearly as bad as Sharpies. The face and stripes are white anyway, just sayin. Get some paint and explore a whole new side of the hobby. Jooooiiiinnn uuuussss. :lol  You look like you've got steady enough hands for it. KO is awesome all spiffed up.

    thanks for the tips! :D
yeah, i've only very recently gotten into even daring to alter my figures at all xD
aside from the markers, i only have a handful of tamiya acrylics (getting yellow for knock out!), a silver paint sharpie, and some gundam markers (which i used for the black detailing here). I do have plans for oodles of customs though!

The paint is fine. The maroon is really handsome, and silver is very 90's. Good deco that again gets too much hate from whiny fanboys.

This kind of attitude implies that as fans we should gleefully eat up everything Hasbro creates because it's Transformers.

No. Just because people don't like Knock Out's paint apps does NOT make them "whiny fanboys." What the hell kind of fan are you?

I'd never use any kind of "True Fan" term. "True Fan" is the equivalent for "mindless, uneducated fucktard" as far as I'm concerned. I'm just saying that as fans we don't have to eat up every little thing, and we don't have to say everything is good. We should be free to say when things are good, and we need to be free to say when things are bad. The person I quoted tries to imply that as fans we should ONLY be grateful that Hasbro produces shit for us, rather than criticize it. Otherwise we're just "whiny fanboys."

Look, CLEARLY I am the truest fan. I'm also the realest American from real America, and the the most carbon-y of the carbon-based life. When the Spacinoids come to enslave our planet, I will be the most Earthican of all Earthicans until such time as that is no longer advantagous.

I think Knock-Out looks like a really solid design with a meh paint job (I'd hate the paint more if I didn't like red as a rule).

    Long live the Spacinoidian Empress!

Just picked him up today. My opinion goes along with what seems to be the popular opinion. He's a fun little (definitely little!) guy. Not entirely screen accurate, and the paint apps are pretty lacking, but he's far from bad. Not as excellent as Stevehicon, but definitely good. I think what I really miss the most from this guy (as opposed to his on-screen appearance) are the yellow rims. I wish his shoulders were broader, too, but that's a limitation of the toy. It's still pretty well designed.

Though... I do miss the days of Cybertron. It looked like the screen models were based on the toys. The only inaccuracies were in the colors (here's looking at you, US Vector Prime!), that I can recall. Oh well.

After getting my Knockout touched up with some Sharpies, he looks a little more attractive now but I quite like the maroon. Knockout is a good figure, it's just that people keep complaining about the paint job which turns off some people from buying him.

Also got Knockout, he's a fun guy to play with. His left shoulder ball-socket joint is horribly loose however. Adding a layer of nail-polish/glue would do the trick

I added some coats of acrylic gloss finish at 1st then coats of red mixed with silver glaze, with some yellow(like 2 parts acrylic gloss finish, 1 part red, 1 part yellow). Looks better.
