What if the coolest toys are always shortpacked so we'll keep driving to stores and buy OTHER figures to get our plastic fix?

What if the coolest toys are always shortpacked because Hasbro owns many online retailers, who raise the price by 500%.

Because, hardly anyone wants to buy more than 1 Bumblebee, when there is only 1 in the show, or 1 Hot Shot, or 1 Soundwave, etc... Hence, why logic it is a flaw to shortpack the figure that is most likely to get multiple purchases.

It's not like I say: "Oh, they are out of Vehicons, I guess I better buy another Bumblebee."

But that logic is flawed as well.

Children don't troop build. In fact, some don't usually even get one toy of each character. In fact, it's much more likely a child will only get a toy of their favourite character. And like it or not, Bumblebee is a child favourite.

Collectors are expecting kids to buy like collectors, but they don't. Kids have to rely on their parents, and especially these days parents aren't going to buy an entire line for their child, let alone troop build a faceless, nameless henchman who's only claim to fame is that he gets his shit wrecked each week.

I wish Hasbro would consider making an HTS (or another online retailer who is interested) exclusive case of Vehicons. They are already in production, nothing needs to be changed, just make a couple hundred boxes of 8 Vehicons. I'm pretty sure they have done something like this before for Star Wars.

Alternatively they could make a troop building boxset like they have done for GiJoe and Star Wars from time to time. Throw in a deluxe Prime and 3 or 4 Vehicons, sell it at TRU and call it a day.

It isn't about that. I don't expect a kid to buy like a collector, or get one of each character. It isn't even about troop building. It is about making a case a reasonable ratio. You get what, 8 to a case? And you put 4 characters to said wave. You can easily just evenly distribute all of those figures in that case. That makes it more reasonable to said wave, and opportunity for people to purchase, be it collector or random kid.

Look at wave 4. You have 2 characters being returned to a later wave in which they were distributed in the first 2 waves being pack in with all new characters. You subtract Cliff and Soundwave, change everyone else to 2 a piece, and boom, you make it more reasonable.

Same with Voyagers, both Optimus and Megatron are main characters, to which the average kid would sure seem to want a leader for good and bad guys. Which makes no sense for 3 Ops to 1 Meg in wave 1.

I'd be all over that. Or just a simple three pack of Vehicons.

A three pack, or hell even a two pack, would sell like wild fire online.

You watch the scalpers jump all over multipacks, as well as people like us. They would sell out faster than Windcharger did on HasbroToyShop.

    It makes sense to us.

Not so much sense to the retailers that have to sell this stuff. The last times Hasbro's produced troop builder sets, for Star Wars and GIJoe, they've typically failed hard.

Unfortunately, the retail world doesn't cater to our esoteric behaviours all that well.

I ended up just Ebaying one since I only can go out to hunt one or two days a week. I still need to get 5 more though, and that's gonna be the challenge. I'm really liking this mold from what I see, and it's just frustrating that the Vehicon is one per case.

I never had this much trouble troop building in GI Joe 'cuz they're always two or three per case, so this is just ridiculous.

Truthfully though, if I was a kid who randomly had to choose between whatever was floating on the pegs, I'd probably want the one that looked like a Batmobile (even more so than a cartoon Lancia or red Challenger), regardless of it being a grunt in the show or if I'd even seen the said show, so maybe its not just us that want him.

True but when have they done it for Transformers? I don't remember ever seeing any really. People do buy stormtroopers, cobra troopers, and B.A.T.S. in fairly large squads if they're into it. Guys like us anyway. I don't hear too much about SW or G.I. Joe anymore really. Transformers is a bit more popular than those series currently far as I can tell. In the case with Prime I think it may do better than expected. Kids are hardly be able to get them between us and the case assortment as it is now. A two or three pack could do well especially since there's nothing but Bees and Primes on shelves ftmp. I know my son wants a few and he took one of mine and he's pretty big into Halo figures now. I was surprised he wanted it really since he hasn't been into them much the past year or so. Vehicon's just that cool, everyone wants a few. At least my replacement will be in tomorrow. Back up to three. :D

It doesn't have to be a regular release. Hell, I'd buy up a troop builder pack if it was a TRU or even BBTS exclusive. The point is, with a set like this, you don't have to market it to kids...by making it an exclusive you don't have to push out so much as far as producing the packaging and what not, and if they're solicited to BBTS or TRU, then they can be accessible to the collector without having to worry about messing up plans to get toys out to kids.

I think TRU probably wouldn't respond well to a set of three identical Transformers all that well.

And as for BBTS, look at what happened with their previous exclusives. Battle Unicorn clogged their warehouse for years, and the Seacons look poised to do the same. Despite being pretty much the biggest domestic online retailer, they still can't shift the numbers that comprise a full production run.

I would argue that this is the first time Transformers has done a true Troop Builder figure. Hasbro could try selling them as a battle pack like GI Joe did. Throw in a Cliffjumper with three Vehicons, and give Cliffjumper an exclusive battle damaged paint job, and maybe a different weapon. TRU did this with GI Joe during 25th Anniversary, and at least in my area they moved pretty well. The only thing that stopped them from moving faster would be the molds used.

Other than a boxed set I can't think of a way to feasibly bring more Vehicons outside of doing what seems to be the impossible...just putting two or three in a case. It's just funny because in GI Joe it's often the named characters that are short packed, but the troop builders are always two to three per case. I honestly didn't think I'd have this much trouble just getting one, but it appears I truly underestimated how much people want this guy
