I seem to waft between thinking Soundwave is completely awesome and thinking he's substandard and flimsy. I think that from the awesome side he's looks like the Character pretty much spot on (except he's got pink on him instead of purple).

Laserbeak works well as a chest peice and also make a nice claw weapon for his hand too.

But some design problems do arrise it's ike they tried to engineer to much into to small of a space and it didn't quite work this toy really needs to have another attempt with a Voyager toy.
(No silly Starscream/Optimus style weapon though - just give him a light up engine in jet mode).

The slight downers are his legs only barely work as he needs ratchets in his ankles probably to support play and posses otherwise his heel spurs just clapse and he falls over backwards.

The engineering in some ways is a big improvement over something like DOTM Deluxe Starscream. as unlike him at least everything goes in a decent place and leaves no ill fitting panel or ugly gaps.

The Automorph on his head does get in the way a bit though and doesn't seem to actually work anyway. They just seem to have put his head on a spring for no obvious reason.

He's a good toy assuming you can get him to stand up properly. But I'm not sure if I can say in all honestly if it's something I'd still want to play with in 10 years time. and at least he has a waist joint even if he can't move his head side to side very much.

Overall he's pretty good but not so great that I don't still want a better made Voyager to replace him.

I'd say he has some design tolerance issues and he does feel fragile but he's not atrocious.. and his alt mode is interesting. 'Laserbeak' is fun.

I'd say quality wise he has more redeeming features than many DOTM toys but less than some Classics toys. (not for G1er reasons) but simply as his materials and joints have some issues and he is a bit small and fragile he gets marked down a bit.

If I had more of the bogstandard Autobots as Cyberverse Commanders then he'd be about the right size compared to say a Cyberverse Commander Bee but as it is he's too small compared to many others... I suppose he fits in Ok with Twin pack Megatron and FE Starscream though.

He at least looks great, which is more than I can say for most Classics toys.

This figure is gorgeous. The amount of subtle poses it can pull off whilst still looking like a complete bad ass is amazing. He's just spot-on to his CGI model and I honestly don't mind the pink/purple fiasco at all, it looks great.

All in all, he's worth buying simply on looks alone, but he is so much fun and so hard to out down. I couldn't have thought of a better figure to introduce myself to the Prime line.

I got mine yesterday and he is okay. He looks cool but not much fun to fiddle with.

The only issue I have with mine is some scratches on one of the wings/arms. Looks like someone at the factory scribbled on it with something pointy, maybe trying to scrape something off.

I happened into Target the other day after going to the eye doc, and was fortunate to find one sitting out on the pegs, amongst a couple Wheeljacks, Cliffjumpers, and yes a few Bumblebees.

I like him. I think this is a fine toy representation of the character on the show. He even has his Laserbeak chest drone thing.
I can't see any problem with this figure. It does what it needs to do as a transformer. It has a solid alt-mode, and a solid robot-mode. Both accurate to the show.
If you like this character, then there is no reason to not like this toy.

I did the head fix, in where you pop out his jet engine thing and turn it around. Makes his head sit up a little higher and doesn't effect the transformation at all.

I think it comes down to what one's overall feelings are about the actual character and design.

If your attitude toward the character and design is mediocre, then the toy is goign to be mediocre for you.

Has anyone posed Soundwave with ROTF Skystalker and/or HFTD Sunspot? I think they would make an interesting crew of UAVs.

I don't think I agree with this. His character design is fine, but his light weight, light plastic, and poor leg functionality make it a worse toy then design, IMO. He still feels like the lightest deluxe ever made, and his materal, particularly in the legs, feels soft and generally none too solid. I still lean towards him being short packed that makes him all the more appealing. It's satisfying to find him, but the payoff isn't the best figure. I even find RID Cliffjumper to be a more solid and fun figure, though less accurate to his show counterpart.

I really don't agree with that at all. He's a little light, only because he's a fairly insubstantial design in the first place. Beyond that, he feels as sturdy as he should, and he gets about as much movement as he needs to have.

I might feel worse about him if Soundwave did crazy ninja stuff in the show. But all he does is stand or hover around looking menacing, and the toy captures that aspect all well and good.

And the one time he did fight he did so standing in one spot.

I honestly wouldn't be that heartbroken if he had no knees at all.

He can't kneel like he does when hijacking the satellites in Darkness Rising, though.

Like anybody cares about replicating that scene.

    He also can't sprout tentacles.

Don't see no complaints about none of that.

    :(

The micron that comes with his Takara version sort of looks like his tentacle though.

I can see the legs being a major issue for some, but even still, it's far from being a bad figure.

And the soft plastic is kinda necessry in that he has so many sharp-ish edges and thin panels right?
