Ugh. This thing is so ugly. The arms are too short, the wheels are too big compared to the head, and his lower legs are too bulky. Plus his chest is no where near accurate to the CG-I model. Pass. I'll just get the HA. At least it looks screen accurate.
With movie verse toy lines looking decidedly grim i caved and got the Takara release, didn't pay TOO much over what new deluxes cost round these parts either! Pros: SLS AMG mode is gorgeous, transforming his top half is suitably engaging by deluxe standards the face sculpt and paint job is awesomely sinister representation. love the hands and wrist hinged cons: the huge unbroken panels leaving smooth and sex alt mode mean shell of a back, the boot poking out between his legs is meh, his body is pretty much hollow and the size of his feet make it look like he's in ski-boots.. Overall very nice figure, personally love having complete movie verse Decepticon high command (though ROTF Leader megs leaves much to be desired when flanked by this guy and HFTD Starscream....) and legends Ravage finally has his master to take him on walks!!
Finally was able to get a closer look at this, and while it's a nice figure, I can confirm now that the HA is vastly superior to me. If they ever release the Soundblaster repaint, I might get him though to have one version of the mold at least.
^ I hope so. I just ordered him for $40 shipped. I've spent that on hard-to-find Deluxes before though...even been burned, like with Warpath.
I hope so too, as I spent $32 the other day on this little fucker. Even if I hate the figure (which I doubt I will) I will still be happy to use his mechtech with my HA Soundwave, as well as (with a new coat of paint) admire his vehicle mode.
Just wondering for those with the figure.... Is it possible to remove his back pack easily (I.e. just a simple snap off?) ?? Or does it need to be screwed off kinda thing? I generally remove the back pack kibble of most of my toys, and if I ever feel like transforming them I will add it on. I wonder how difficult that would be with this soundwave..
Soundwave is one of the best movie molds, imo. I love the little shit. Granted, his transformation can be a bitch, especially the arms/chest segment, but he's really a nice figure once you have him in hand. The colors aren't the greatest, but seriously, his awesomeness outweighs the lack of paint. Have him in hand and you'll see what I mean. He's easily worth the $35-45.00.
I have one of these coming in the mail. I'm super excited about it. So far, other than the lack of paint, I really like everything I see on the toy.
got this guy today and love it. much better in person. the gray is not that bad actually. and yeah the back comes down a bid with the back window but it has just enough clearance that legs can bend back all the way so it actually does not really hinder posing or movement. i would say i just dont like how the deluxe and HA have a visor instead of seperate eyes like in the movie. also the silver painted head can look out of place but that is a minor nit-pick.
Just got mine today as well. I will say a positive about SW. It's got the best Mechtech weapon of all the DOTM.
I got mine today as well (they must have all shipped out at the same time!). I don't really like it. After a couple months with the Soundwave HA this toy just seems so lame in comparison. Hollow, cheap-feeling plastic, an even MORE drab deco (especially the clear windows), and an even MORE stupidly-huge mechtech weapon make me want to recommend 100% that you save your money for the HA. Luckily this Soundwave's mechtech goes great with the HA!
One thing I just found with the deluxe, is that you can take the back window part that hangs down and carefully reverse it so it actually doesnt look too bad now...
I'm gonna try that right now! My comments still stand, but I will admit that the bot mode is cute and fun.
This was worth the $34 i paid for him. Fun transformation, solid looking bot mode. My copy of the mechtech weapon actually holds its position as a dish, if you do it just right. As a huge Soundwave fan, this figure does not disappoint me at all.
The unpainted windows are the worst thing about it by far IMO. That's something that I'm definitely gonna have to paint myself. For me it completely destroys the fantasy of the vehicle mode to be able to see a bunch of robot junk through the window. And since the insides are as grey and drab as the outsides, it makes for a very poor-quality representation of the car.
