it looks better as a whole i think, but if i look at the parts that make it up i prefer mp-01/04 except for the head and the area right under the windows.

 

ALL of these I agree with. Instead of putting in my own words, I think everything has been said about die-cast.

 

Believe it or not I'm petty enough where this one element just turned me off enough to decide I wont get this thing. I've got a weird hangup with hip articulation on high-end figures, in that if it's not at least enough to sit down I want nothing to do with the toy.

And yes, I know this is a problem with me and not a problem with the toys.  

 

How many times have I read "the diecast had paint chips right out of package"? It works both ways.

 

Paint chips, plastic flash, bad paint apps, no big deal. But broken parts? Anyway, I got several transforming die-cast toys and none of them ever suffered from paint chipping. Or breakage. Plastic toys, yes.

megatroptimus fails to realize that his own (positive) experiences with diecast aren't an absolute and that there will be varying experiences for everyone. As Fosterlager mentioned, it goes both ways.

Anyway, I'll get this eventually, but I may hold out for an American release. And seeing as how the window between Japanese and American MP releases has gone from years (Skywarp, Grimlock) to just a matter of months (Rodimus), I don't think it'll be long before we see this as a hypothetical TRU Exclusive, sans trailer.

 

And you fail to realize most people against die-cast have very little if no experience will high-end die-cast figures. The Soul of Chogokin line, just to name that one, proves that die-cast can be used both effectively and tastefully.

 

Hoping for an American release. I never got a chance to get MP01, and while I'm generally not a fan of the MP figures due to space issues, I'd make an exception for Prime.

On my MP1 (or the US version of it anyway) there are inner parts of the knees that broke, and I know with 100% certainty that they broke because of the weight of the metal in the lower legs. So while the diecast itself may not break, the plastic that it interacts with and/or needed to support it has a much better chance of breaking than it would in an all plastic toy.

 

I posted this wish/request in another thread, but I'd love to see a pic of the truck mode next to RiD Magnus, just to see how close to a 1:32-ish scale this thing is. As it stands, it looks great next to CHUG and Alternity cars, I'm sure it shouldn't be much bigger than Magnus's cab.

 

I think you're just arguing for the sake of arguing. I'm just stating that one person's experience (yours) doesn't represent the whole. I'm not against diecast in any way whatsoever, but I can understand why others don't like it and would prefer plastic instead. The arguments against diecast are almost as valid as the arguments against plastic. It literally goes both ways.

But you seem like the type of person that has to have it black or white and can't look at both sides of an argument (your back-and-forth argument is indicative of such), so I'll just leave it at that.

But I have MP1. And I wont buy MP10. I dont need a trailer either...

Strange as other places are saying he DOES have enough hip movement to be able to sit down.

 

Oh, what to do now... part of my next paycheck might go to this, or I could wait for the highly probable Hasbro release, since the trailer really doesn't mean a lot for me. Still, the trailer does make it the definitive, perfect prime in my opinion.

 

Interesting...the plot thickens. Maybe the OP missed something, a click or two in the ratchets? Or maybe some people think anything less than a 90 degree angle is enough to qualify as "sitting"?

Arm articulation is the same as MP01 essentially. You don't have much to worry about here.

It's about the same height, as you can see from other pictures. I don't have one to compare it to, but the pictures on the box show them holding hands. Hot Rod does look like his face is a bit bigger than Prime's.

Masterpiece Megatron will dwarf him.

I can definitely say there are some on the blue parts of his feet... and a small portion on the hinge for his gun cover on his back... but nothing else outwardly.

They're a solidly molded piece with vent holes if that's what you're asking.

It doesn't really feel cheap. It's not as heavy as some SoC figures, but it does have some hefty weight to it. In fairness, while Prime doesn't have that much diecast in it, there is a lot of plastic to this toy.

My friend's MP-01 has chipped paint all over his chest windows.

I haven't missed a thing.


I guess people can consider that sitting... if it were on a lounge chair that is...

 

Nice review, and thanks for having a comparison shot with movie Prime, I was hoping they'd be around the same scale.
