Storage and play are different things for me. On display, make the best use of space so as much can be crammed in as possible and it's easier to remove the things I want to play with.

Play, I want my figures to be as good as possible in as many areas as possible.

$250 for a shrunken-down MP-4? What a f#ck'n joke! The fact that I paid $160 for my MP-4 back then makes this cash grab by TakTom unjustifiable. What a f#ck'n rip-off...

^ Back then, when you bought MP-4, the dollar was worth a hell of a lot more than it is now. Back then, it probably would have cost quite a few fewer dollars, not just because of the previous strength of the dollar, but because many materials cost less then, too.

We are running into the problem that the dollar still means roughly the same thing in our minds now as it did back then, as well as the fact that we do not benefit from any economic strength the yen has. We are interacting with the Japanese culture and economy in a niche manner with a USA* and USD* mindset, which makes the pricing for things seem extremely odd compared to things bought locally.

I would also like to point out that MP-10 seems to have quite a few more moving parts than MP-01. From my understanding, the cost of materials pales in comparison to the cost of design, mold tooling, and construction, especially if good QC is imperative. The more complex the design, the more money was poured into the design.

I am not saying the price isn't steep, it's just not quite so unreasonable as people make it out to be, all things considered in general terms.

Alternate answer: it isn't even a shrunken down MP-4.

Anyone recall the Yen cost of MP04 -vs- MP10?

I'm liking it, but am also starting to fall into the it's way too expensive (especially given it's various shortcomings) camp.

the vintage transformer? sat on it.
I broke MP-01 by him taking a dive of the top of my bookcase. one of his windshields broke off. well.. it bent.. and i broke it trying to bend it back. ( bottom part of the hinge for the record)
Lesson leanred? while fairly solid, die-cast is brittle. Keep metal out of my toys please.

and I don't know about you, but I limit the number of yous I have on display in order to put them in fairly dynamic poses.
and i end to handle my toys a great deal, and change poses alot.

Back on die-cast toys, I'm the opposite. I've always associated die-cast with cheapness of design. I find lighter weight toys seem "more expensive" to me.
Consider ANy of the Hot toys Iron man Line, especially the newest one, for example.

The thing about plastic is unless it is painted, it shatters any illusion of the 'bot being huge. Thin pannel lines engraved in plastic are not deep enough to reach where the plastic becomes truly opaque. Especially for light colors.

I say, die cast has its uses in structural pieces, lower legs, and parts that don't interfere with the operation of the toy, like Grimlock's claws.

Looks damn good, the alt mode in particular for. But not 250 good. 1st mp im skipping 1st shipment for new mold.

Good to hear less complaints than mp9. I guess the optimus design just lends to easier/less detailed engineering n detail. N its not like takatomy hasnt had practice with this character :lol

This toy is awesome. I have to the record transformed him for more than 20 times already. Still holds and I did not do it with kid gloves. Just handled him like my regular CHUG figure.

The forearms are NOT too long !

Note the location of the elbow pivot point : it's at exactly the right spot.

The thing which throws people off is the outer panel ( with the silver band ). This panel pretty much hides his elbow, therefor making the forearm seem to be a bit long....which is not the case.

I am going to pass on this one simply on price. I do think the cab mode is really rally good though. Maybe if there is a reissue or exlusice repaint of just the figure without the cab I try it.

Do the stacks on the arms move a little like MP-01?

This picture of G1 Prime perfectly illustrates the proportion problems of MP-10's chest windows and grill. MP-01 captures the look far better.
