Thanks a lot! Do you recommend the voyager version or the leader version? Looks like the voyager ver might be too small.

I think you're right. For DMK Optimus you probably want the leader version...

finally put mine together :)  your thread is incredibly insightful. I agree that the fingers are ridiculously annoying to pose and that the pipes in the torso are hard to snap together. I glued lots of key parts together after i completely assessed the finished mold's poseability and possible weak spots should it slip out an arm by accident or something. I will post a thread soon to show how it turned out as i also did a full fledged repaint :)

So for the people that painted the skeleton of this model what colors did you use? Like what are the brands/color codes?

    Thanks.

For the base color, I went with games workshop's gunbolt metal. I thinned it way down to spray, but I think that model masters metallizer magnesium would look about the same. From there it was a combination of steel and aluminium accented with some metallizers brass and steal their in there as well.

I would love to get a hold of a second one of these so I can go through the whole process again. This kit was an amazingly fun build, and painting it was even more fun. Not to mention the fact that it comes with the flame decals, I was able to paint up a pretty accurate rendition of his on screen counterpart. I've since created a blue that better matches that of the blue that was used to mold the RotF Buster OP, so if I can, I would LOVE to paint his again.

I got the clear version while he was on sale for 50% off last year from amazon.co.jp but I still haven't built it so I get to go through the process again soon! I plan on adding a matrix with an LED built in like I did for my normal one, and have the clear version all lit up with "matrix energon power" or whatever :D

It really was fun to build and paint, and he still stands tall as the best looking non-transforming Transformer ever. I hope to god that they make a megatron, SS, sentinel prime, and others for movie #4!

Indeed. He's fun to put together, and he's so amazingly detailed even under his armor that it's a beauty to behold. Almost a year later and it's still the star of my collection and holds the honored position that every figure in my collection wishes for right next to my TV/computer monitor :D

Yeah I'd really love for this line to continue, but there doesn't seem to be any news about it. I'd say either they're waiting for movie 4 to come out, or this line of model kids has been discontinued, which would be really sad! I think everyone in this thread wanted a Sentinel Prime and/or a Megatron to go with him. I'd love a nice big Starscream and Ironhide as well!

Honestly, just painting his skeleton goes a loooong way towards making this kit look even more amazing.
I have a lot of experience with painting models, and weathering, so it was a no brainer on my end, but even if you've never painted a model in your life, this would be a good place to start...you will need only the essentials...a couple of paint brushes, and some simple colors...black, silver, gray, and maybe a rust/brown. I use acrylics...that's my personal choice. There are TONS of tips and tricks on the boards here, and still more on various modeling sites around the interwebs.
I painted just the skeleton of my DMK...I left the red and blue bits alone except for some minor scuffing and weathering...trust me...it brings a lot more out of the kit...again...just my opinion on the matter.
Also, my apologies for not getting back to you sooner when you posed a question a couple pages back...if you need any advice along the way, just shoot me a PM. Without a doubt, there are other painters here that would probably put my feeble skills to shame, but I am not completely inept with a paint brush.
