As far as the proportions go, that's classic character design, man. Villains, especially robots (especially Japanese ones), are often designed in a rather "bottom heavy" manner.

It creates a sense of forced perspective, making them look more imposing, as if you're always looking up at them.

To each their own, of course, but I think this guy's a winner. Tons of sculpted detail, a complex but not difficult transformation, great poseability (despite fairly restricted shoulders), a ton of character, and spectacular engineering all around. The character design might not grab you, but the toy itself's a total winner.

Has anyone ever done a comparison of Battle Blades Optimus and DOTM Megatron? Both in vehicle and in robot mode, that is.

I'm really curious about the size comparison between the two Voyager figures.

Scooped up a DOTM Megs today. Definitely my fave out of the 4 figs I've found so far (Voyager OP, Megs, Ironhide and Deluxe BB). I would like to do a full repaint of him, but these movie figs have so many parts I'm thinking that would take an insanely long time. Might do a dark wash and some rust/wear effects though. The finger posing is awesome, especially if you have him pointing his gun and in a slight walking forward pose (basically like in the Prime opening sequence). This is definitely the least chaotic looking Megs, which is what stopped me from grabbing previous versions. He face sculpt is great with the damage up the one side. Its a shame Takara doesn't do improved paint versions for movie figs as often as they do for Classics or I'd be all over theirs.

The paint job on him pictured on the back of the box makes me think of Doctor Doom, lol.

Perhaps I've just been avoiding the reviews, but this guy is waaaaaaaaaaaaay better than some of the detractors have made me believe.

His size is just perfect, hitting that threshold of being a voyager toy just right. He's not too forcibly big for the size class, yet understandably small because of what the figure does.

The paint doesn't bug me all that much because there's just enough distinction in the sculpt itself that I almost don't notice it. Every time I look at a chunk with less paint, there's something next to it (like the forearm/shoulder assembly) that has more detail to contrast the lack of paint on that part of the figure. I do wish there was some more paint on the head though

I love his Weapon, I love his Poncho, I love this figure.

I don't plan on getting many figures from DOTM, but I think I've found my definitive Movie Megatron.

Is there silver paint on the abs? Was wondering since the loose samples we saw initially lacked it but the ones on displays at toy fair had it

There is some, it almost looks like a shine wash though. I think the abs look nice.

I love this figure--definitely the best movie Megatron at the moment. I for one don't like the leader class scale so I'm glad he's a voyager. His articulation is awesome, allowing for a lot of different cool poses. I'm also glad he's not as bulky as the previous movie toys. I can't find any faults with this toy, pick him up if you see him!

Just picked mine up, and accidentally snapped the hood ornament right the hell off during the first transformation while trying to line the bumper up under the grill. The cowcatchers just guillotined it when I lifted them up. No bueno. :(

Too bad on the back of the packaging they use prototype Megatron with diff colors and cloak on opposite arm.

The cloak thing is just because they mirrored the pic. They do that all the time, usually for layout reasons, not really considering whether it reflects reality or not.

The paint will always be different to some degree. The photo samples are hand-painted, and once things go to factory, the final reality may wind up being quite different.

Picked this guy up today and he is fucking awesome, easily the best movie Megatron toy so far (though that isn't saying much). Mine has pretty much no QC issues, though there is is small annoyance on mine that his cloak doesn't really sit flush, it just keeps kinda lifting itself up. Kinda hard to explain, but it should be easy to fix with a hairdryer or something.

Anyway, awesome figure, best movie Megs yet, buy it. Hope there's a Leader version of this him, because the design is just badass.

+1 Pretty much what I think too, easily the best movie Megatron yet, hell it's probably my favourite DOTM toy right now (haven't got Shockwave yet though :p ). It's nice to finally see a movie Megs that trumps Prime! Great proportions, very pose-able, and transformation is fun without being annoyingly complex.

Probably my only gripes are the truck looks almost "too clean" compared to the one it's base upon, but nothing a few paint apps can't fix, his mech tech gun is a bit "meh" and they could of done a bit better with the cloak.

Also don't know if this helps anyone but I find tucking the hood of the cloak under Megatron's chin, makes the whole thing stick to him a bit better.

Try turning the ladder such that the top of the ladder tilts to the right. It's sorta hard for me to do it as well.

I used to think I'd like a fourth DOTM leader class mold to be Shockwave, but now that I've got this guy in hand, I think I've changed my mind. Consider me pretty impressed.

I really dig this version of Megs. Totally streamlined, plenty of articulation and a satisfying yet not terribly difficult transformation. Colors leave a bit to be desired but I won't complain too much about it. The cloak thing is goofy and lame...but I love it. gives it some character :thumb
