Other than those darn arm panels, I really like the figure. There has to be a way to take them off in robot mode. Has to be. Sure, it might require a screwdriver, but I think it would be an upgrade. I can live with reattaching them for vehicle mode.
nice in both modes but i dont like his fussy shoulder joint and kibble. and the gaping mouth. but its kup!
the gaping mouth might look good if there was energon dribbling from it and Overlord is holding him aloft telling him to tell Megatron he quits.
I agree with everyone on the arm kibble problem - with just wheels or just panels it would be ok but with both posing can be a pain. I like his solid, clicky transformation - all his joints seem very stiff (as they should be ;') ) and I don't mind his big 'old man shoe' feet. I do wonder if his hands will get stress marks in time as the gun is very tight going into them.
Perhaps they could attach Kibble panels to clip joints and allow them to link to each other (like Breacher's do) and they you could pop them off and clip them on the legs or the back... Might be a good design choice if they get stuck like that again - I'd have prefer if the stray panels were on his legs or back though.
I'm really conflicted on this, it all depends on what picture I'm looking at when trying to decide. I love the torso and the colours, but the wheels seem like an afterthought, the head is incredibly ugly and the legs seem like an afterthought. But there's something about it that just makes it kinda desirable. I get the feeling that, in the plastic, it's a great toy. Hrm.
I really like this guy. The color and finish is just gorgeous and he has a certain 'high quality' feel that seems to be missing from most recent TFs. The only problem I had transforming him was those wonky L-shaped knee panels - it felt like I had to force them into the leg cavity and one of them popped off in the process. The arm panels are probably the biggest drag, and I think they could have designed the toy so those panels folded up into the backpack instead of remaining on his arms, but it's not something that's going to bother me too much. It's Kup, he looks ornery and he's got a cybertronian shotgun - it's hard to dwell on the faults in light of those facts.
Well, people are getting Kup and scourge from china based suppliers now but domestic release is probably early Feb with Tcracker and Wheeljack late Feb as far as I can tell.
Thanks for the review. Can't wait to add this right alongside the custom Kup that I just got. I've heard late January on release of this wave but does anyone have any concrete evidence on when they will be out at retail stores in the US?
The more I see of him, the less I like him. The arm panels, the odd placement of the front wheels (in robot mode) and the head are big turnoffs for me. Kup just seems lackluster when compared to recent '86 movie toys like Cyclonus, Scourge and Hot Rod (Rodimus). Of the '86 characters that have been released or seen, I think he falls in the same category as Galvatron: disappointing. The robot mode is just.......off. I have no qualms with the truck mode or his gun.
He's definitely on me "Want" list, probably with the add-on heads, as well. But I'll probably wait to find him in retail.
Got him today at lunch from Target. I LOVE Kup. My only major gripe is his feet are a bit big and legs a tad longer than I would like but its pretty minor. The arm panel I didn't have a major problem with. I just flipped it sideways and it seems to work pretty well for me. I also like the tires more on the arms than the shoulder. Don't think Ive seen people doing it my way yet; You can see it sticks out a bit from side views but I don't think it looks really weird or anything; I really like Kup. I have one on the way in my POL too but I am going to gift that to a friend. Needed a new figure to hold me until next week and Kup more than made the wait easy.
