My buddy Caked-Up, a Navy guy from Jacksonville, wrote a review for ROTF Lockdown for my site and gave me permission to publish it here, too. Words are his, pictures are mine.

Robot Mode: This robot just screams dangerous without having to do anything but stand there. Other figures look menacing in a certain pose, Lockdown can just stand there and look menacing. Now let’s start with the crazy level of similarity with his namesake from Transformers Animated. To sum it up, they are nearly identical, surprisingly without using the same mold. Hasbro has done a fine job with this homage and they used a whole new mold.

The largest problem with the TFA Lockdown was the sheer lack of posability. It may not be your favorite, but the chicken legs used for the ROTF Lockdown are far better than the original. His legs can stretch/straighten to the point he towers over Voyagers (remember he is a Deluxe class figure) so you get to decide how you want him to stand. All of that height makes him very thin in comparison. Additionally, his head is by far the most posable head in all of Transformers history. It has two ball joints and a swivel joint. However, his only downfall is the posability of the arms. The hook’s piston assembly impedes his left arm by the elbow and the shoulder kibble on both limits (but not much) some forward to back motions. Finally, due to his transformation there isn’t any waist motion.

Just as everything else, ROTF Lockdown’s weapons are a nod to the TFA Lockdown. The hook is cool, but the chainsaw would have been better. And the Engine Blaster is back, but is separated from the hook hand; a wise decision there, Hasbro. When you move the hook up into position the Mech-Alive feature makes a piston recede.

The overall design of Lockdown resembles “Frankenstein’s monster” and it reflects the character’s habit of taking trophies from his victims. This concept was present in the TFA edition, but was too subtle, only the legs had different touches. The ROTF edition takes the asymmetrical idea and runs with it. Aside from the feet, chest, wheel kibble, and head, all of the body parts are different shaped and proportioned. Even his robotic buttocks do not match from left to right. When you get the chance, check out the light piping in his eyes, it has to be the best piping ever and adds to the menacing image. His overall color scheme is a deep green and black with gold highlights. He has spikes adorning the roof, doors, hood, and each wheel. All of them but the wheels are painted silver. The only downside to his overall build is the material his hands are made of, a soft rubbery plastic. It was done to prevent breakage, but it still feels funny. A side note on his transformation, the car door on the right hand is supposed to rotate upside down. The directions do not show this.

Alternate Mode: Lockdown still transforms into mixture of muscle cars at a Goth convention, but this model shows the malicious nature of the character. Overall he is still very similar to his TFA counterpart, but he looks much sleeker now. There is a great amount of detail present with red transparent plastic on the windows and headlights, as well as the aforementioned spikes. The back window has slats covering it like the ones that were popular in the 80’s. His cow catcher and spikes are much more prominent, but they are unpainted. They do work well with the overall color scheme. A minor detail is that you can see the back of Lockdown’s head through the windows.

Conclusion: This is my absolute favorite Decepticon and Deluxe Movieverse mold. I know that he is a homage to a character that is just over two years old, but it is an awesome homage. He has the air of a deadly bounty hunter and the feel of a machine that has modified itself like the “Frankenstein’s Monster.” Nice details in both modes, but the hands don’t feel right on this toy. All in all he is the adult collector’s edition of a newer Decepticon that is actually cool without being overpowered or crazy. I highly recommend him to any collector.

The sad thing is, if the piston mount was moved 1cm further from the elbow, this wouldn't have been an issue...

Didn't have to twist too hard. Should I say "ow" just to make it seem like you had to try? ;)

Picked him up today. And as I was getting him open, the girlfriend had put New Moon in the DVD player... the TV being RIGHT NEXT TO ME, so I got him transformed once, but have ended up watching the movie way more than I want.

However, I've been fooling around with the joints, moving him around, etc... he's pretty badass... and MUCH cooler than even the pictures show. Seriously, 4 neck joints? Holy cow.

I'm just editing this post continually. Movie's now over - better than the first one, at least, but... very goth-teen-romance. I see where the hate comes from. Anyways... Lockdown. I'm diggin' the Transformation, but the arms are problematic... The instructions are pretty useless as to how to maneuver the arms to transform them from either mode to either mode... but I don't think you could even write instructions for it... you just kinda gotta feel for it and figure out where they go. That's the only tricky part, the rest is easy, but pretty cool. I like the chest piece. Sadly, the arms on mine are pretty weak... they keep popping off at the shoulders and elbows both. :(

Heh... thanks for the kind words! Yeah, not a big fan of the look of the Animated figures, but most of the episodes of the show were pretty well-written. And Lockdown's a good character. The new figure does the character justice.

It really does, now that I have it in-hand. While pictures make it look like a movie-styled Animated figure (which, well, it is), it actually ends up being more than that... the spindly look, as well as the movie-style level of detailing really evokes the character and all his upgrading... like he's some scrawny thing that's making up for his shortcomings with upgrades.

Liked this thing more than I thought I would, but woah that is one rubbery claw. I love how much articulation it has going on, and the vehicle mode is great.

Picked Lockdown up a while back. I never picked up his Animated incarnation, but this version's quite worth it. I'll echo the concerns about the soft rubber, particularly on the hand; and yes, his arm falls off if sneezed on. despite that...really cool figure. Tall, gangly, and I'm quite pleased with the way the asymmetry was worked in.

There is one thing that makes Lockdown even cooler than on his own, though, at least on my display:

I hate to break it to you, but Scarem currently sells for far less than RotF Lockdown.

This guy is kind of a mixed bag. His leg articulation has gone way up from the Animated version but the tradeoff is that the legs look awfully silly, enormous at the bottom but skeletal everywhere else. The transformation involves quite a bit of kibble scraping together. I don't like how high up his elbows are, and his left shoulder balljoint just plain sucks.

But that neck is epic! It's probably his most impressive feature, aside from the towering height that we've come to expect. And if you give him Ratchet's missile launcher it looks great and even helps his arm to look a bit longer. I wouldn't say he ranks very high on my list of favorites in this line but I am pretty happy that they even thought to make a RotF Lockdown in the first place.

I've passed on ROTF Lockdown many times over the last few months. The first ended up being bought by a friend, so I got to toy around a bit with his later that day. I love Animated, I've got all three Animated Lockdowns, but I wasn't sold on ROTF Lockdown for some time. There was something about him that was just off and I really liked the Animated version.

While I was out today, I saw him again, on sale, and after many minutes of debate picked him up; figuring that this would probably be my last chance, either I got him today or I never would. Suprisingly he's much cooler then I recalled him being, and I do rather like him. Moreso then anything else, was that he didn't pop apart, like my the other one I toyed around with did. His ball joints are rather nice and tight, and outside of the first TF, none of the joints, including the left arm doors have popped off since, I think that helps quite a bit.

Perhaps it's time, or whatever, but he doesn't seem nearly as "wrong" to me as he did before. Is he my favorite TF Toy? Hardly, but he was worth the low price of admission, so to say.

    Best. Figure. Ever.

ROTF Nest series Lockdown is easily one of the best movie line figures we've recieved thus far.

    Vehicular Form:
The Muscle Car form is quite simply, epic. That and bad@$$, but both work.
It is similar to the Animated, which I'm lucky enough to NOT own. -ready's shield-
The Engine Block is rather bland, no paint Applications. Just a hunk of plastic.
It is sometimes rough on the rolling, as the hook of the robot form tends to drag along the ground. No other complaints... it's simply perfect.

    Transformation:
Rather cluttered... the arms pop off no matter what you do... and the engine part forms... Other then that, the legs, torso, and head are perfection.

    Robot mode of bipedal greatness:
    ...
    No cons.
    Just pros.
Articulation is God, aesthetic is beast, and just... EVERYTHING is the best.
    I have no cons...

ps. I might add a much more detailed review later :3

MOSTLY everyone who owns this figure and has commented here on it has stated how easily his left arm falls off (including myself)... you are not alone!

Have there been reports of Lockdown missing his scoop/engine from the package?

I got a friend to pick him up when he was in the US, but when I got him he was missing the engine piece... He wasn't MOSC at that time, so it's possible my friend messed up and lost it, though he says he took care when unpacking.

    I hate you all. Seriously.

I got this toy today, and I can't stop playing with it. This is easily without a doubt my favorite Decepticon ROTF toy ever. And I have you guys to blame.

    Jerks. :mad
