Wave 3 of the Transformers Mighty Muggs showed up on my doorstep this afternoon, making me one very happy collector. All four Muggs are very nice.

The boxes are the same as always. A nice large window so you can see the figure inside, name clear across the top, and some great artwork of the character on the side and back of the box. The top features the Muggs face. As always it looks great.

But if you're like me you're much more excited to free your new figures from their cardboard prisons, so on to the Muggs!

    Movie Optimus Prime

This Mugg does it's job of being instantly recognisable as Optimus Prime. Lots of nice details, including window chest, grill stomach, flame deco on many of the panels and wheels on Prime's hips feet.

The body's base colour is black with the details painted on. This helps the Mugg evoke a movie feel of many intricate parts forming the robot as opposed to the more solid look of the G1 Prime Mugg.

Paint on Movie Prime is a little glossier that G1 Prime. The eye colour is also more teal than blue. Personally I feel that this Prime looks better than the G1 Prime Mugg.

One thing I would have liked was for Prime's antenna to have been additions to the Mugg rather than painted on. I'm not so fussed about the central crest, but I do think the look of the Mugg would benefit from the addition of Prime's antenna.

    Movie Bumblebee

Like Movie Optimus Prime, Movie Bumblebee uses a black base with a number of small details painted on to evoke a movie feel. The car headlights and bonnet (hood for those in the US) are recognisable on the chest, his numberplate, and arm armour are all detailed. From the back Bumblebee does look a little plain.

One fantastic new addition this wave are the car door 'wings'. On Bumblebee these have been cast in soft clear plastic, then the lower portion painted yellow giving the appearence not only of the doors but the windows too. Unlike Starscream's wings the doors are not removable.

    Jazz

Jazz was the Mugg I was most excited about from Wave 3. And he does not disappoint. Jazz has both the door wings like Movie Bumblebee and the horned head like G1 Bumblebee. In addition to this he comes with a new weapon.

Car bonnet chest, door wings, wheels on his shoulders and ankles, racing stripes - Jazz is very detailed. They even went so far as to print "Agent Meister" across what would be the top of Jazz's windscreen (so, effectively giving Jazz a tattoo above his rear :p ). Jazz's Autobot symbol is has been painted slightly out of proportion to look as though it's following the contours of his bonnet.

    Shockwave

Of all the Muggs in Wave 3 Shockwave is the only one I'm not quite sure how I feel about. He certainly looks like Shockwave, with the single eye and the large gun replacing his left hand. However, Shockwave was a very blocky robot and in some ways I don't feel that translated into Mighty Mugg for as well as the other characters.

The purple, silver and pink colour combination works well. His gold eye stands out quite well against his otherwise dark body. Like Jazz his faction symbol is slightly skewed to appear as though it's on a much more angled surface.

Shockwave's most impressive feature is the flexible hose running out of his back and into his gun arm. This is long enough not to hinder the movement of his left arm. You won't be rotating the arm a full 360 degrees, but then again a Mighty Mugg's oversized head tends to block the arms from doing so anyway.

While I'll readily admit a bias towards liking Mighty Muggs I think all four of these are good. Shockwave and Jazz fit in well with the other G1 Muggs and are very welcome additions. Bumblebee and Prime look a little out of place with the other Autobots, but this is true of sticking almost any movie toy in with your G1 or Classics figures. If you're a fan of Muggs, or of any of these particular characters, I'd certainly recommend picking any or all of them up.

Glad you like 'em. These things just don't do it to me, can't really see the appeal of 'em.

Shockwave looks ok I guess though.

I grabbed all 4 of these from TRU last week for my girlfriend's birthday. She absolutely loves them. None of them disappoint (w/ the exception of Prime, which again should definitely have the antenna at least). They all look great, both in and out of the packaging. Nice additions to her collection.

I just opened a MM Jazz, and i am disappointed about the QC issues on mine. He had some sort of scratch on the back of his head and his gun's tip is bented because of the packaging. T_T. I tried to go back to TRU and the other Jazz's there had QC paint issues on the face and body. Now i need to keep an eye out for a Jazz w/o Paint app issues. I haven't opened up shockwave yet. But hopefully he doesn't have any QC issues on his back either.
