Okay I just got him today. Not gonna say much about Soundwave because he's almost identical to his original counterpart just in different colors and deco.

The Ratbat guitar is nice, but I'm having trouble pegging him in keytar mode on to the vehicle and pegging bat mode on to his arms...

all i see is a giant bat head on a keytar...

it's sad to see that it's still hard to peg newsoundwave/blaster's minions into his arms. it's expected though.

 

A little filing fixed the pegging issue.

 

Giant bat heads on instruments are metal.  

 

I never thought I would buy a toy mainly so I could get a smaller toy that is a keytar. I like it, the keytar never got enough love outside of the 80s spandex community. The one thing I don't get is that they will make a keytar but are reluctant to give us a Classics Soundwave tape player because it is outdated. Thanks for the review though, I look forward to adding to my animated collection once again.

I like Soundblaster, I like Ratbat, and keytars are hilariously quirky, so I think I'll be picking him up.

 

The light piping isn't that great due to the fact the backpack blocks the back.

Good review.   I don't feel like buying Electrostatic Soundwave because I already own the original Ani Soundwave. But do you think it's worth buying him since he comes with Ratbat?

 

I am for a few reasons, and Ratbat is a big one. But the TFW Funnies potential for that figure is amazing, I'd love to see what you can do with him.  

 

Got him. ES Soundwave seems a little dull to me, being mostly dark gray (a darker color or black might 'pop' more), and the fatter tf joints at the knees render him permanemtly bowlegged. Ratbat is cool, even if he can't do much beside move the outer wings up and down somewhat (but RatBat's technically an accessory, so can't complain too much)

Verdict: a 'get if you want Ratbat' thing, maybe if you like the new colors more than I do. Otherwise, it's not too tough to track down the first TFA Soundwave (or Activator).

 

Is it just me or this toy is a itsy bitsy taller than the first deco?

 

it seems like they made the connection ports on the arms tighter when holding laserbeak or ratbat, which is nice, love this figure!

 

Managed to find him yesterday in spite of the black friday madness. He's a fun repaint, only issue was that his knees were swapped. Also ratbat is very cool. Love his keytar mode. Maybe a little too thick though.
