Part 2: The Software

When you plug the drive into the USB port, it will show up as TWO drives, one for the USB storage, and the other as a CD-ROM which contains the software. The drive is much wider than a standard thumb drive, so you have to have an open USB port that is pretty much flush on both sides for a good ways.

You are greeted with the install window:

The most interesting thing here is, it could tell I lived in North America (perhaps because my of my PC's language settings?) and all instructions and installation was in English. Here's the kicker: it refers to Jaguar as Ravage from this point on. That may hint that Hasbro plans on releasing this in the future... If not, that means Takara Tomy catered specifically to a Western audience, which is way neat.

The instructions PDF is also in English, and refers to him as Ravage:

After installation, the program will apear as an Autobot logo in the system tray. You can then open the setup menu and adjust settings for Ravage or Tigatron:

Ravage will then walk around your desktop whenever you insert the USB drive into the computer. You can even make him eat your desktop icons! They will turn into a white square and Ravage will take chunks out of them. You can also right click on him and give him commands, such as roar, eat icons, jump, and transform. He can leap a good ways across your desktop! If you leave him alone, he will just perform random actions, and may lay down and go to sleep after a while.

All in all, it's kinda pricey, but cool. If you're on the fence, I say go for it. It is, IMO, the best version of Ravage we have ever gotten, and mucho posable. This is what the Universe Ravage should have been, in cat mode anyway.

Yes, the jaw can open and completely close. I'll add a pic to the first post.

Wow! I cancelled this preorder but now I'm having second thoughts. I may get him and Tigatron (and use Tigatron as a minion for Blaster)

Thanks for the review GD. Can we get a pic of him and ML Soundwave? If ya have him?

$40-$50 is a lot cheaper than I thought it was. I like it, and will probably get it as I'm a huge Soundwave/cassettes fan, but I really don't have a use for a flash drive.

Thanks to SmokescreenGT for the sig!

I assume the software is Windows-only?

Looks nice, if a little 'square' in cat mode. (a weird thing to say when all these Ravages literally turn into rectangular solids.)

Edit: checking the BBTS site, Mac support is mentioned, though it doesn't say if that means the little desktop pal software, or just that the flash drive works.

How the Animated toy line REALLY came to an end

Awesome, Gog.

The software sounds great. I can fiddle with that kind of fun, simple stuff for hours.

Thanks for the review and pics GD! The actual drive looks really nice, and I am so tempted, but that price is just a bit too much. Personally, I can't justify it. However, if Hasbro does manage to bring this over to the states for a lower price, I'll be all over it.
