Didn't find a thread, so I thought I'd start one.

Soundwave is one of the better Activators figures. There's not too much compromise in either form due to the gimmick. Like all Activators, the transformation is simple but fun.

Soundwave is very posable in robot mode - more so than the deluxe figure. He even has a head that is the right proportion to the rest of his body (if you care about that kind of thing). Some detailing is lost from the deluxe figure, like the equalizer bars in the chest but it's not that big of a deal. Also, note that the rear tires don't form the speakers in his shoulder armor as they are now molded in now.

Vehicle mode is also very show accurate. The only signs that it is a robot come from the springs on the side and the gap in the rear of the car. My only complaint is that his tires are missing the blue ring on the rims. That's definitely a detail that I'll be adding to my figure.

All in all, Activators Soundwave is a great figure. Pick him up when you see him!

(shameless plug: You can find the TFW2005 gallery for him here: Animated Activators Soundwave)

Thanks for the review! I was a bit let down by the deluxe Soundwave so I'm really stoked to get this version. Some of my favorite versions of Animated characters are in the Activators line (Bee, Starscream, Prime). I should be getting mine on Monday so I'll post my thoughts then.

Got him today. While I do think the deluxe is a fine figure in its own right, the Activators Soundwave beats him in almost every respect for me. The alt mode looks better and somehow more beefy or 'jacked up' than the deluxe. The Bot mode is far better proportioned than the deluxe with a better looking head and longer legs that don't look stumpy. Even the articulation seems to be better and has more range than the deluxe.

Activators Soundwave doesn't come with Laserbeak, but that's fine by me since 1 flying V guitar in my TF collection is more than enough. :p

As far as where he ranks with other Activators...my favorite three Activators are Prime, Bee and Grimlock and Soundwave is pretty much equal with them.

I'm pretty fond of this toy, and I highly recommend him.

I will give a word of caution though: the blue-green paint scrapes off really easily (or at least it did on mine). I've since bought a replacement, and I'll be giving the new one a light coat of Future to further protect the paint :)
