I should preface this review by stating that I am not a Star Wars fan, I know nothing about Magnaguard as a character, and I am completely unfamiliar with the starfighter vehicle. I do not own any other SWTFs, but Magnaguard intrigued me ever since the first promo photos were released. I figured I owed it to myself to at least give this line one chance. In vehicle mode, Magnaguard is a sleek spacecraft. There is absolutely no kibble to be found anywhere on this mode. It has a couple landing pads that fold out, and the guns on the side can launch missiles. Other than that, not much to say about this mode. I assume that most Star Wars fans would be pleased. Transformation pretty basic, nothing too exciting. I was surprised though at the level of partsforming that goes on. All of the vehicle's weapons just pop off for transformation. I don't so much mind the side weapons coming off because they become Magnaguard's guns, but they really should have figured out a way to get those front guns on his shoulders without having to detach. What you end up with for the core robot is this. It's pretty neat actually. It doesn't scream "crossovers!!" to me like some of the other SWTFs and the proportions are good all around. Pretty much no kibble, no gimpy limbs, and no obtrusive gimmicks. Articulation is good but not excellent, and poseability is alright. You can pretty much do whatever you want to with the arms, and the legs are really only lacking a thigh swivel. Once you attach his shoulder pads though, the arms get a little more restricted. I really like his dual hand cannons, makes him look like quite the gunslinger. One of the cooler things about Magnaguard is that those missiles sticking out of his shoulders can come out and become a staff. It makes for some nice weapon variety. All in all, Magnaguard is about as good as I expected, if not quite as good as I had hoped. It was my first SWTF, and will probably be my last, but I'm glad I gave it a try and I'm not disappointed. I'd recommend Magnaguard if you're in the mood for something a little unconventional and want a break from ROTF. And as a bonus, he makes a pretty damn good Spittor.
I need him to go with my Grevious/starfighter. The Magnaguard looks to be the best SWTF yet, under the DV Death Star.
0That looks ridiculously good for a SWTF. What I like about it the most is that theyve used the vehicle mode for the limbs and body, as opposed to it forming a cape and having limbs tome out of the mass of the vehicle (and having like faux flight suit, or faux droid greeble on them)
The best thing about SWTFs are their alternate modes: Perfect, you can hardly spot any kibble! Sad thing they dropped the mini pilots
I enjoy him, got him a couple weeks ago. I don't like the partsformer aspect at all, but other than that he's solid. One of the better SWTFs for sure. He reminds me of a terminator with that head and those guns.
I picked up the Magnaguard the other day, and while I'm a little tired of the SW crossovers, this one may be the best of the line. The design and playability is just so much better than most of the SW line. I'm not really familiar with the character or the ship design, but the ship looks great, has lots of guns and two fold out landing pads, a nice touch. Gone, finally, are the now-useless cabins for the mini figures, which are no longer needed since the mini figures are no longer included. Sure, it's a bit of a partsformer, but it's not too terrible. The two side guns pop off and have good robust handles (none of those short split pegs trying to fit in fist holes) and decent launchers. The two front sections become shoulder pads and also hold the staff divided into four chunks, all of which peg together nicely and fit in the guard's hands with multiple hold points. It's worth noting that the places on the ship where the rifles plug in wind up on the outside of the figure's calves, so the guns can also plug in for storage in robot mode, which is cool if you want him to wield the staff instead. I also like the Spittor mode - it's not bad at all as a frog type robot, the legs have decent poseability and the feet can fold forward. All in all I think this is my favorite SW TF in the whole line, and I've bought some of the bad ones as well as the better ones (Grievous fighter, Vader death star, etc.). I don't think the line will go too much longer, but it's a good one to end the new designs on anyway. Tim "toy geek"

Looks much better than most SWTFs..alt mode is slick..robot mode..is good I guess, but to me he looks like Magnaguard wearing purple pyjamas..proportions are good, though!
If I can ever find this and Ahsoka, I will buy them. To me, the Star Wars Crossovers are worth it for the alt modes alone.
Does anyone know the width of the toy in vehicle mode and his height in robot mode? The vehicle in the film is about 12 meters wide, and I was curious to the scale of the toy. Seems like he'd be a bigger robot if kept in proportions (maybe 40 feet in the "real world"?) BTW - I love the idea of them making DROIDS into Transformers instead of humans and aliens. Seems more believable that they make giant robots in Star Wars instead of ships that morph into giant humans and wookies.
I've been eyeing off getting a one of these guys for awhile now, since seeing promo pics - the robot mode looks excellent for a SW Transformer, and it's good to hear that it actually lives up to some of that promise! I plan on using him as Ferak, an obscure Decepticon from the old Marvel comic lol
Thanks! So the real P38 starfighter is 1288 centimeters wide, while the toy seems to be 15 centimeters wide (just under 6 inches), this makes the toy about 1:86 scale. He'd also stand over 50 feet tall. Pretty impressive.
