I did Peaugh's mod today. Improved the figure a lot to where I can say he IS the best of the HA line. It was closer to Bumblebee with the door wings, but no that there are none, it's no longer that close.

I was in rush yesterday and posted it in the wrong thread. I meant the Bumblebee hand switch but I was too lazy to go and look for the thread.

On that note, though, I did do the Skids door trick so they sit better with the backpack. Improves the figure a LOT.

So in the previous post, I was kinda talking about two things at once. Sorry that it was confusing.

Thanx for the mods M.B. I have done all of them exept the left arm gun mod. Now I love this fig. even more. I have also been doing alot of additions to the paint job on the robot parts. Now I feel that I have a fairly decent Skids.

I actually don't have a lot to say about this guy. I'm a fan of Deluxe Skids (despite the inaccuracies), and really wish they'd applied THAT backpack transformation to the HA figure. Instead, we get Sideswipe-style back gapping. Ick. Some parts of him are more accurate, but the giant backpack is hella distracting, and lack of cut joints for the wrists is a cost-saving measure in the wrong place (hell, kill the Arcee fig and use that money for more articulation).

Still, he's a decently fun figure to transform, and he looks good from the front (good being relative, thanks to that face). I like him about as much as I like his smaller counterpart.

The doors don't look as bad in robot mode as I thought they would. Swiveling the doors inside out as TCracker demonstrated is a little better ... but mostly, it's convinced me I need to do the door mod. Having the doors backwards or modded to fold down covers up the gaping back hole, which is crucial in fixing his appearance. Not totally sold on the alternate backpack mod/transformation; we'll see, after I get time to do the door mod.

The deluxe handles the kibble better in except for the doors on the lower legs, but the deluxe also doesn't have to worry about an interior and having space for a human to ride around in bot mode.

As for the alternate backpack transformation, it fixes some of the things you've just complained about. He's not so hollow because the kibble folds up into it, and compacting the backpack makes it smaller and he's not so much of a ball with arms and legs.

Personally, I like Skids with the door wings up.

This is going to be how I transform him from now on. I'm surprised all it took was to fold the arms under to rotate the doors back. Thanks for posting!

Edit: You can also flip those black posts forward to look like guns from this position.

    Matt,

with your backpack mod can the doors be folded down TCracker's way? I do not want to cut the doors but the backpack mod looks great. So if the two could be combined I could have my own perfect version for me of skids.

Right, but my suggestion was to submit the same question there to have it answered. This way, when the tutorial is resourced, that can be there as well (if need be) :)

They can, but I don't know how good it would look. Tcracker's way of folding the doors works because there's a ton of backpack kibble to blend with the door kibble.

My mod reduces the backpack kibble by about half (the windshield and front half folds up and into the empty space of the body instead of just hanging off his... skidplate.

My door mod causes the door kibble to not be as obtrusive as well, so it blends in with the compacted back kibble. It also helps that the curve of the doors line up with the backpack kibble, whereas if you just flip the doors around they'll curve out. Like )[](.

If you're unsure, my suggestion would be to do the backpack mod, as it doesn't affect the regular transformation. Then you can flip the wings around, see if you like it, and if you don't you can either transform it how you did before or you can do my door mod. :)

I bought him, and I LIKE him!

He is definitely different from even from what I've seen or had before in terms of Alts. I had HA Sideswipe, and didn't care for him as much as I do Skids! Now, I can't wait until HA Mudflap comes out!

Frankly, Matt's mod is the best for long term solution. His mod , like he said reduces the backpack by half and it looks TONS better as a result. :D

I vouch for his mod, it is excellent like all his other mods. :thumb  :thumb
