Hi everyone this is my first review on tfw2005 so dont be too harsh j/k

Anyways im sure everyone going to wonder how the TF2ROTF game stacks up.

    Intro
First of all...im a fanboy and i usually play action/fps/3rd person shooters and driving games.

so with that said, TF2 has all those well more so than 3rd person than first person but with every game there is a cool intro which cool with Optimus Primes voice over giving us a prologue. And then we head into the first level, which is the tutorial.

    GamePlay
depending on the faction you choose, either Autobot or Decepticon, the levels are the same but the objectives are different, ie: autobots must destroy decepticons and protect humans or provide excort to safe areas vice versa with decepticons destroying autobots and causing havoc, destroying NEST vehicles or strongholds.

    Characters
The playable characters in the beginning are Prime, Bumblebee, Ironhide, Breakaway - Starscream, Longhaul, Grindor, Sideways. Im sure there are more especially with Downloadable content and different colors or pallette swaps of the characters.

Almost all the characters have alt mode, primary weapon, secondary weapon, melee combo, boost (in alt mode), charge attack and special move.

and in alt mode, you have a firing weapon.

weapons also do overheat, so you shouldnt constantly shoot just do in session, and reload times depend on character. Some characters like Breakaway, and Sideways have a sniping weapon. While Longhaul has a flamethrower and grenade launchers.

Attacks can be pulled off by button smashing or just hitting attack buttons in session for combo moves. Attacks can also be done in mid transformation or during transformation called an advance takedown move.

ie: Bumbelee racing in vehicle mode towards and enemy hit jump and transform into flying punch or kick.

the Y button or special move button gets filled up when picking extra items in the game or building up for a special move, so far ive seen only a few...energy drain, energy boost, stun move.

    Transforming
Unlike the first game, of transforming on the fly, you have to hold down the right trigger to stay in alt mode, and use left analog stick to move around.
performing a combo in alt mode is quite easy and while it gets using to via holding down right trigger and moving around. it functions very well.

case in point while driving around like bumblebee (holding right trigger) at the same time press and hold Jump, or Attack and while nearing an enemy unit, still holding either Jump or Attack let go of right trigger. its pretty insane that the car will jump in the air transform and attack in the air depending on what button is pushed.

    Driving
The driving mechanics, arent that great. Just the basic drive fast, brake, e-brake to drift and boost. You tend to crash alot in this game luckily, most objects in the game are destroyable once crashed into.

    Flying
Is pretty basic but better than most games ive played, while being grindor your controls are like most RC helicopters (kind of like flying an AIR HOGS reflex heli) and flying as breakaway is like flying in ace combat games the cool things he has banking manuevers.

    Levels
Level design is ok, not bad but its not entirely open, unless you pass the level and replay it in open mode. But unlike the first game you can not pick up objects and throw them. sucks so you can beat megatron with a tree lol.

Hidden in the levels are power ups, energon icons and faction symbols. which can be use for powering up or cutting time down.

Time? well each level is timed and depending on the character you use you can beat a level quick or slow. Beating a level, in a certain unlocks special treat or stuff.

Powering up, is like StarWars the force Unleash or any game the uses points to buy powerups. You can use them to enhance the team with firepower, healing, attacking, boost etc. Also every level has side objectives to achieve so you can unlock alternate colors, special G1 cartoons, levels, art, music .etc.

    Unlockables
There are tons of unlockables like G1 cartoons, movie stills, character redecos, etc.

    Multiplayer

is kind of cool kind of like Rampage the arcade, but you can mix up the factions and have wierd teams like megs and optimus on the same team.
its basically a free for all multiplayer style, go out and kill the team with team work. ie: team deathmatch, deathmatch, protect the allspark etc.
    best teams i had was
    Autobots: Breakaway/Ironhide
    Decepticon: Longhaul/Grindor or Grindor/starscream

    mix: would be prime/starscream

    Buy
All in all i would recommend this game to anyone who had the first game because its a definite improvement over the first one via playability and graphics and level design. I would get it also if you have a PS3 or an Xbox360...any other system i would think it sucks because of the polygon count and lagging in graphics with too many things moving on the screen and its too much for 2nd gen systems to handle.

if you like robot smash'em up games
being a character in the game after seeing the movie and loving it.
and if you dont own the first one its still ok to still buy it but i would at least say rent the first game. so you know what your getting yourself into.

this game is similiar to Hulk (latest game), Dynasty Warriors Gundam, Armored Core, now if you like those games, then this game would not dissappoint.

    dont buy
I would not recommend this game if you dont own the first one nor a fanboy. You wouldnt like it or get most of the stuff.

But if your into just movies games then get it because most movie base games suck, this one is ok. but that horrible. It not entirely based off the movie but its a movie tie-in.

this game is similiar to Hulk (latest game), Dynasty Warriors Gundam, Armored Core, now if you hate those games, then this game is not for you.

    Scoring:

    Playability: 7
    replayability: 6
    Graphics: 8
    Buyability: 6
    Rentability: 7
Time to finish the game: less than 6hrs
    Recommendation: 6
    Sound: 8
    Controls: 7
    Multiplayer: 7

so yeah please excuse my grammar and if there is any questions with this review let me know.thanks

I don't really understand why you say not to buy it... I mean sure there are a few nitpicky things, but they aren't THAT bad.

Also, not being able to pick up shit is NOT a negative, especially since that is what you were doing in the first game to kill 75% of the enemies.

i didnt say just dont buy it, i mention both from both non-bias point of views. I like the idea of throwing things, why have cars and bus and trucks and pipes in the game and not be able to throw would add more fun to the game.

Well, you kind of flat out said "dont buy", but alright.

Throwing things is stale. I dread doing it after playing the first game. After all, I would MUCH rather blast and/or punch an enemy to death than beat him with a tree. But, all personal opinion.

true, and i agree with blasting people is cool, especially with longhaul and sideways sniping abilities, but the weapons in the game overheat and you have to wait for a cool down period, this could be avoided with power ups. but yeah...nonetheless, you were right in what i said, i need to edit that part thanks

How long do you have to fire for them to overheat?

How long do you have to wait for them to cool back down?

this is a bummer.. the review makes the game, which looks epicly awesome, sound not that great, but still ok and MAYBE worth renting.

i still think the game looks awesome, and this wont deter me from getting it, but its always a bummer when an awesome looking game gets a below avarege review..

i'm kinda hesitant to get this game. while i understand it would be nearly impossible not to improve from the previous game, i'm working with a wii here. the wii / ps2 have not received much publicity asides from a few screencaps and one trailer. I'm wondering if that's because, well... it sucks in comparison to the 360 and ps3 versions. after watching the trailer for the wii version a few times, i reached the conclusion that the gameplay was essentially the same, but i am still very hesitant. if you manage to find a copy of the wii version or play a demo of it, would you mind telling me about it? how did you get this copy anyways? thanks! :D

I got to play the multiplayer online at botcon... And i say the game is an epic win so far. 100 times better than the first game, plus the multiplayer reminds me a little of team fortess 2.. help your team mates/ different classes with different powers. but best of all is i played as tank megs...
AND HE HAD A FUSION CANNON!!!

The PS3/360 one this time is shaping up to be a pretty damn fun game, but to be honest, where it's at yet again, is the DS one.

Last time around, the DS one was a pioneer of it's time. Even getting Vicarious Visions to do a conference on 3D usage on DS because of their GTA like 3rd person scalable world. Add in real online this time to the customizable weapons on top of the create your own bot, name, and scan system, and yet again another winner. While the allspark war was meh, this time around it should have true deathmatch online.

While I'm digging the 360 one, the DS versions will be my prefered yet again. Now when will the 'Main' consoles wisen up, and realize we want a build your own TF game with our own choices of alts, and weapon usage including melee, with a world interacting online almost MMO like? When that happens, then I'll praise the 'main' consoles. For now though? DS FTW!

PSP yet again isn't worth a mention, and PS2 isn't bad, but if you have a better console you may as well go for the main attraction of flashiness over substance. If you want pure substance though? DS all the way. If you enjoy multiplayer? 360 or DS all the way.

At least this time the main consoles have online though as well, that'll incredibly up the replay factor for the quick combat. Especially the various play modes. This will easily be my prefered online random 'fps/3ps' game. Leader mode/Factions is ingenious for it's king of the hill like spin.

I do love the fact they've perfected the main console combat, so we're only a few more games away from perfection (carrying over models and moves), but for a first shot and second shot, the DS keeps nailing it, with an ever expanding code library for more massive games down the road while the main consoles are still figuring out how to approach it.

Overall, great translation from film to game and experience, including juggling the human passengers. xD

Personally I'd recommend it for anyone who's a fan of action games or mech games. Otherwise, you probably won't be interested in it. GTA 3 fans may also get a big kick out of the DS or main console ones. Or heck just anybody who likes sandbox world games.

Wii doesn't get much press for any of its great games tbh, madworld, No More Heroes, among many others are quite extremely addictively fun games. I expect no less from TF ROTF. But half the fun of the wii can't be shown through trailers, it has to be experienced. So that one is a definite Rent first, to see if you prefer it over the others especially since the online in it may be questionable.

No on sideswipe for ps3/360 unknown about wii/ps2/psp. DLC on the main consoles is possible, but nothing suggests that as yet.
Going on a limb to say yes on DS Autobots since they tend to include all the main attractions of the film. Though his swords are unknown afaik yet. Give me another day to find out. xD ('mystery' bots aren't revealed till you do their mission at least once. Then you can freely choose them to replay) Once you beat the game, you should also be able to freeplay with any characters you played as in the game, including your own which you can freely change the alt form of at will from your scan database.
The moving truck with the texas star/steer star from the scout toys is also in the DS game. As is the upcoming helicopter Basic. Both of those were in the first DS game too though. Scout Class Deadend as well. Not far enough to say anything about the BiPlane, Motorcycles, forklift, or boat. (Haven't seen any to scan yet, but haven't played much.)

    Megatron
Yes on all versions. Cept DS autobots.

its pretty quick kind of like when your playing a FPS and using a machine gun it overheats pretty quick if you hold down the fire button constantly, and cool time is slow too but that can be avoided if you upgrade with energon points.

the game is ok, but i was trying to give a review from all points from hardcore gamer to the casual gamer. but yeah definitely not worth $60 bucks

ill update as soon as i get a chance...but if its anything like the first game...then it might be a disappointment to me..since i own all the consoles and know how each is different and how they play.

    yeah just button smashing lol

sorry the control of the game and side story from the movie story with more details.

well remember target had it for $40 after 2 weeks on the shelf...for TF movie Game....so we will see how it goes.

dope and because of that thats an epic for the multiplayer aspect.

    yes i agree

    dont know

    yes

great.. now im even more bummed out.. first this review.. now i just read on wikipedia that they have screened rotf for critics, and it has a 35%. which is horrible. they say "the plot is hollow, the jokes are bad, all it is is a giant cgi fest, and its worse than the first, witch wasnt that good. " i know that first off, its wikipedia. they cant be trusted. and 2nd off, most critics are almost impossible to please anyway. i really dont care what the critics think. but it still is kinda bummerish when something you were really lookin forward to gets bad reviews. you know that it still will be good in your eyes, but it still will take shit and it wont get the respect it deserves. :(

it sucks. but im still looking forward to the game and the movie. they both will be epic. :thumbs2:
