ROTF Voyager Megatron Pictorial Review!

Got a couple of awesome figs in the mail today, including voyager Megatron from Revenge of the Fallen!!

He's pretty awesome, and GREEN! Is this a rumored Megatron/Fallen fusion? Why does the back of the tank look suspiciously like Soundwave's satellite face? Is this just algae from the deep? THE WORLD MAY NEVER KNOW!! (until the movie comes out, at least ) He's about the size of a Hardee's Thickburger in tank mode:

The turret can move up and down in vehicle mode on the elbow joint, but not much else. I thought the wings might fold in for tank mode, but they actually peg into the treads to hold them in place. Not sure why we have a winged tank, and the bio on the box doesn't clarify. But a winged tank is clearly the intended mode.

Transformation is complex and satisfying; unpeg the treads and fold them around to form the legs, lift up the back of the tank to fold out the arms, uncage the head, and arrange the back kibble. I really like the head cage. When it's all lined up properly, it does a much nicer job of making the head look integrated into the tank mode like in the recent CGI images, unlike the leader class. Although the pieces have a tendency to pop off during swiveling.

Robot mode is pretty nice, just over 7" tall, and he's got that blade gimmick: straighten his right arm and a blade pops forward. The upper claw is poseable as well:

His other Mech Alive gimmick is in his chest. Much like the Leader version, there are some brownish gold gears inside his chest that spin when you rotate his waist.

As for the back kibble, it's not visible in the back of box picture, and you CAN arrange it to be so on the figure itself:

But he looks like this from the side:

So it's pretty much personal preference on how you want to do that.

Here's one with Starscream:

Overall, a nice addition to the line, and arguably the best version of this Megatron so far. Would've liked a little less/easier to manage backpack, but the much nicer proportioned arms, head cage, and tank mode more than make up for that. If you're on a budget, save some cash and pick up this version of our favorite tyrant.

Looks pretty cool. I still like the fab version the best. I don't know why though. I like the murder arm on this version a lot more than the leader, but I'm not sure if I will get it over the leader. Thanks for the review.

Thanks to SmokescreenGT for the sig!

His knees can bend about 180 degrees, but the way the treads work, you can only use about half of that if you still want him to stand without support.

Awesome comparision

Only real problem I have is that his head, which I like the design of, seems a little large, making his body seem short and stocky. Otherwise, great figure. I'll be buying him instead of the Leader. Thanks for the review as always.
