News Credits: 5 | Henkei Dirge & Thrust The Coneheads have arrived! HUGE props to Bodhar2000 for not only providing a great deal for these two, but also for the unexpected sneak attack from the postman this morning. What a pleasant surprise! Tune in toFirst, before I go any further, I just need to get this off my chest - these guys' joints are nice and tight and THE LAUNCHERS FIT PERFECTLY SNUG in robot mode. PHEW! After nearly taking a hammer to my very expensive Henkei Thundercracker, this is a very touchy subject for me. Paint: I thought the funky wing deco on these would be very distracting, but I barely notice the added stripes when lining them up with the rest of my Seekers. The wing stripes are far less intense in person, for sure. Both figures are cast in beautiful, somewhat shimmery plastic (nothing too blatant, but in the right light it gives off a somewhat metallic flake finish), with colors very close to their animated G1 looks. Love the white face for Thrust, and his overall color is definitely far more maroon in person. Some pics so far have given off a cherry red look, and even my awful flash saturated pics don't do justice to the accurate colors. All in all, the paint on these is very nice, very much the opposite of the sloppy mess I received with Thundercracker. Added molding: I don't have the Botcon set, so I can't speak for them, but the extra steps TakaraTomy took here to mold these more accurately to the G1 designs makes me glad I went Henkei. Thrust's new parts are actually pretty versatile. You can keep the wings at his waist like the G1 cartoon model and toy, or flip them up to be more like the Botcon version, while the ducted VTOL fans can be removed and placed on either the rear stabilizers or on either side of the wings. I chose to remove them and place them on the underside of the wings in robot mode to keep the more cartoon look. One downside to keeping the wings in this position is that it limits arm rotation... but then again, Seekers in this mold always tend to have the wings get in the way. The wider wings on the Henkei also look better to me, as the Botcon Thrust almost has an SD appearance with his stubby wings. I'll add more thoughts (and photos) later today, as I play with these a bit more. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Edit: These guys look amazing displayed with the other Classics/Henkei/etc. Here's how the shelf is looking now: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() PREORDER 66 - The High-end Toy Podcast We're always looking for listener questions and feedback! |
