great little toy....my teeth weren't painted so I took care of the gold one and tomorrow i'll grab a silver paint marker for the other....great stuff though!
Yeah, enough people are starting to mention that the retail ones are unpainted. I'm wondering if mine is one of the Takara versions. My teeth came painted, and it's clearly a "done at the factory" paintjob.
It could be a variant thing. Later ones might have painted teeth... But we'd have to wait until later to see, once later runs are out. Unpainted teeth here, btw.
Unpainted here, too. Not sure if I want to paint the teeth - he looks less goofy this way. I love the figure, even more now that I figured out how to TF him correctly. Vehicle mode is great, colors are solid (and one of the few ROTFs not hurt by a lack of paint apps), solid articulation and, overall, kind of cute.
I'm still not quite sure how I feel about Skids... Yesterday I was too frustrated to give a crap Today it was cool Earlier I ripped his trunk off trying to transform it, so it was crap Now it's kinda fixed and I kinda like it, but I'm not sure. Yeah.
I'm glad I didn't let the head put me off from getting this guy, because HOLY CRAP he's complicated! Some really interesting stuff I've never seen before in the transformation, and some cool handbanging/bouncing armor panels. But yeah -- I'm GLAD the teeth weren't painted. I can sort of pretend he's the TF Movie version of Stripe the Gremlin, instead of ... whatever that monstrosity is on the package. With a frikkin' logo on his gold tooth. That shit ain't battle-damage, it's fuckin' deliberate -- and that's when you KNOW the character designers are probably trolling you, trying to see what they can get away with. But hey, he's great for sigs. "KisSS iT And mAK3 iT b3tTT33rrRRRRR!!111" Yeah, I demand a Kiss-Play parody of this guy. -XCN-
Combine? Are we sure that Skids and Mudflap don't combine? I know Peaugh stated Mudflaps instructions make no mention of it, but look what I just found... The crotch detaches and swings back (even further then what the pic shows) and looks to have a mirroring clip system. Very interesting.
Cool find. I've been wondering about that joint since I got him. Looked like it was meant to move, but there were screws, and I couldn't tell if it was attached permanantly or not... didn't want to force the isssue just in case. Thanks for taking the chance!
I just got mine from TRU and I have a painted silver/gold tooth, just fine. I already love it although I'm stuck fiddling with his roof right now, which is why I'm in here.
Yeah, it does look like he has a few too many joints that don't do anything in either mode - the crotch definitely unsnaps and swings back, and then there are those joints in his upper legs that allow them to bend 90 degrees inward. There's no use for those either. I would guess that he may have some sort of ad-hoc combiner mode like Energon with Mudflap, with Mudflap forming the legs - if you swing the leg assembly all the way back and flip the lower front bumper forward at the bottom, you can see that there is definitely what looks like some sort of attachment point - both the three pegs in a triangle that held the crotch piece in place, and two rectangular pegs in his lower chest that don't seem to do anything. If you bend the legs at that joint that doesn't do anything, it may have something to do with getting the legs out of the way for a combination - I just noticed there are a couple of holes on the upper thighs that don't appear to peg into anything either, and you can rotate the thighs so that the holes face forward once you bend that extra leg joint. Curious. Does anyone have a Mudflap deluxe yet that can see if there are any mysterious joints that may link up to Skids making them Energon-style combiners? Doubtless it will be as ad-hoc as most of the Energon combiner modes were, but still a cool undocumented feature anyway. Or, even more likely, maybe it was planned and then abandoned due to costs, etc. Tim "toy geek"
he seems a little back heavy, have alot of trouble standing mine, if you rotate those pieces around the lower leg backward, they can form a small heel that helps stand him, but eh..otherwise hes awesome. Checked all the ones at my local Walmart and none had painted teeth (you can see through the packaging)
Got this guy last Friday and was pleasantly surprised. His transformation is complex, and both of his modes look great. At first I didn't complete the backpack transformation and had trouble standing him. I'm glad he works the way he was designed to work-- I was worried he was another Universe Ironhide. My version's teeth are not painted, and I'm actually liking it a lot better that way. Maybe after I see the movie I'll change my mind, but for now he's solid.
Agreed, with a different head in a dark blue in homage to the ORIGINAL Skids! I snagged one up today (yesterday, whatever) and was very pleasantly surprised. His vehicle mode makes me chuckle a bit as it is strongly reminiscent of the old Geo/Chevy Metro cars. I had one, and it was a joke. Skids looks like one and he is a joker in the movie. Or, the irony... His vehicle mode is a VERY compact hatchback with stylized racer-esque graphics on the sides. Neat, but over the top. His transformation was a PITA for not only me but two of my co-workers as well. We all were challenged by his top part with how it folds up with no real clarification as to HOW in the instructions. Skids' robot mode is very cool. He ends up being a very short and squat robot with a robot head that'd make any hillbilly proud with his buck-teeth and all! Skids is a definite must buy.
Picked him up because I love the concept car. Instant love, seriously I have not bought one figure that I haven't been pleased with. His robot mode has so much character built into it, and vehicle mode is snazzy. Working on getting his vehicle mode more accurate right now.
