The mold is plagued with tolerancing issues. There are a lot of fixes- check Radicons, or this comprehensive guide. Careful, the mold will grow on you (pun unrelated, unintended).

I'm very paranoid about the hood it feels like the clear plastic is fragile.

I have Universe Ratchet thanks to HTS (don't have the Henkei, so I can't do a comparison) , and I like it pretty well, a bit more than Ironhide, as I find the colors and head more appealing. I've started leaving the rear wheels out as little kibble 'wings', as it helps things fit together better for robot mode with less looking inside ones own chest. (too bad that head wasn't ball-jointed), and not looking as bulky/fat as the other alternative of leaving the wheels in vehicle mode position. Also, even though it's not accurate to anything, I like the red crest on the head.

You don't HAVE to cut away at the toy for it to look better. Just leave the rear tires down (slightly out to make space), and bring down the chest before putting up the crotch/legs.

I posted all about it in the Universe Ironhide thread.

I think you meant to quote Process, but I would disagree. The mould (I have Henkei IH) looks worse with the wheels down. The mod is simple and worth it, especially since it means you get to keep all the kibble in a nice backpack and he looks straight ahead.

That's why I do. The head still isn't leveled but its good enough for me.

That's why I love this figure. There are so many ways to "get it to work".

I wrote the guide that Process was referring to, I'm really happy that it's been useful to people. It's not something that I normally do, but I seem to have a soft spot for this mold. I would also like to recommend Matt Bookers guide too, it's really well done and he went so far as to ball joint his head.

After I wrote that guide I found a couple of other tricks that I like too, and you can get fairly satisfactory results without cutting into the figure.. The best imo is to just rotate the spine around and then swap the legs. It aligns all of the joints in the body instead of the head being behind the hips. It doesn't fix the head issue but it does remarkably improve his posture so it doesn't seem as noticeable. Sorry these are of Ironhide, I haven't gotten Ratchet yet.

Now you can go the extra mile and do the rest of the mod and he'll end up like this.

In order to do that the spine needs to be cut like this

Another great mod that is somewhere in the radicons, I think either Split Lip or Tenime Art did it, is to shave down the plastic that is under the armpits. This allows him to have a more natural arms down position.

    Hope that helps

TFU deluxes were on clearance at Target so I bought a Ratchet yesterday. I'm pretty happy with the color and deco. Bot mode looks neat, although personally I think this figure will look better if it had darker red (like Prime or Inferno). But this will do, I mean BotCon Ratchet is probably the best but I'm happy with my Universe Ratchet.

I’ve had Universe Ratchet since he came out. Finally decided to get the Henkei one to add to my Ratchet collection. Is the white plastic on all of them this bad?

I expect it from Hasbro, but I thought the Henkei ones were a closer match.
