I didn't see a thread for this guy, so here we go.

This is a repaint of the Voyager Megatron mold. He comes in a two pack with Final Battle Jazz. As you can see, all of the "ice" has been recoloured into fire. Why they did that, I have no idea, but it looks pretty damn awesome. He's a beige-ish colour, with some brown. I really like the colour scheme on this guy.

I think the colors look pretty cool, but they don't save it... I still think this is one of the worst movie toys that came out. Can't blame em for trying... I guess this particular Megatron was really designed as a movie character before the toy... and that's a tough model to make a toy from.

Yeah, that Cybertronian jet mode thing was just an illusion.

The problem with both movie Megatron molds is they never really decided what compromises to make, and so ended up making ALL of them, with no payoff.

Here were the issues: You had a Megatron in the movie who was NOT an easy transition from movie to toy. You had two size classes, Voyager and Leader to play with.

With Optimus, they did a fairly good job. Leader optimus tried to get closer to the actual movie transformation (at least as much as physically possible) while the Voyager 'cheated' to get a robot mode closer to the actual proportions of the character. Both have excellent alternate modes.

With Megatron? The leader class they did baffling things. They made the head unposeable, the body a blocky piece to contain electronics for a couple of finnicky and unnecessary sound effects, a fusion cannon gimmick which simply didn't work and seems as if they gave up halfway through designing it and just left it off the instructions. His transformation is poorly thought out, and in fact nearly impossible due to how badly he gets in his own way, all for a payoff that's... well, really nothing. They did weird things with the feet to accomodate an unnecessary autotransform gimmick that hampers poseability even MORE. The hand claw morning star also doesn't work... it seems like they were trying to get it to fire out, and just gave up and took the spring out before releasing it.

The leader class could have been the saving grace of the line, if not for that blasted ICE. If they had made it removable, it would have been okay, but they instead meade it struturally integral to the character.

It would have been nice to have gotten a Megatron figure that, proportionally and visually was more like the figure he was in the movie... get him to work there, give him a working Fusion cannon gimmick, and then tack on the transformation as an afterthought... it's not like the alt mode was more than that in the movie anyway. If you're going to give us lights and sound, give us a fusion cannon sound and connect it to the cannon!

Not at all good; he look like someone threw toffee at his legs, causing him to fall over into a large pile of dung, which stuck to his chest. Colossal (and effortless) pass for me.

Different enough from the two I already have that I probably would have bought it on principle if it were by itself, but I don't need another battle damage Jazz.

Although I guess that just means I don't like it well enough, since pack-in Activators toys I already have won't be stopping me from getting Animated purple Shockwave or Sunstorm.

I hope my target has afew of these left...

I like the flame look the gave to megs, and I only need final jazz and G1 deco jazz to have them all.

So SounMaster, choose, Wingblade, or the 2-pack?

Oh, and just a question: was this $30, like the universe 2-packs, or was it only $20?
