Use the energon weapons as weapons on the big guy and let the hands and feet be formed from the limb-bots themselves. A fan pulled it off convincingly with Superion, probably the hardest to do it with given the geometry of airplanes, so it probably would be pretty easy to do with the other two. All you really need is something you can use as a convincing hand.
Hell, even the half-assed barely-there hands on the superlinking Energon Autobots in top-half mode were better than the combiner energon weapon hands.

Actually the Energon Constructicon claws weren't as bad as the others. The other two just look like they have big obtrusive dangley gun racks where their hands and feet should be.

The iffiest appendage belongs to the fighter jet mold, which is just a gun battery. The official transformation for the A-10 mold isn't much better, but if you open the weapon and stick it to the top of the plane, with the guns pointing forward, you get another 3-fingered hand, with the plane's nose gun as the thumb. |

Having no extras swords on hand I tried to fashion one out of the weapons themselves. The result was...well I leave it up to you:
It's a little blurry but it all fits together, not very stable but I think it looks cool.
I'm definitely going to try this with the classics repaint when I find him.
Rumble - Hey, nobody calls Soundwave uncrassimatic!
Frenzy - Yeah, let's kick tailgate! |
