It seems like there's got to be something that swings or pops out on the flail head. Otherwise, there are just extra pieces of different color plastic in there for no apparent reason.

Can you gently pull out the thin orange pieces with a fingernail?

The Weapon doesn't have any pop out flames I tried it and pulled it and almost broke it. His Weapon can be held onto with his foot in Dinomode tho.

A few points I've thought up about the toy, having messed with it for a bit now:

-This is an excellent example of careful and thoughtful engineering. What could have been a simple transformation is just complex enough to feel like a Deluxe. What could have been a brickish and forgettable alt-mode is -filled- with small details that elevate it to a palpable and fun state.

-On the alt-mode: Yes, it does look odd. However, it does SO MUCH that I can forgive the strangeness of the legs. There are multiple joints all perfectly lined up so you can flap the wings, which BLEW ME AWAY on a $10 toy, given how they are a combination of a backpack and the robot mode arms. Also, the alt-mode can be posed mid-air, standing, or anywhere in between all quite naturally. Finally, he can CARRY THE WEAPON in his talons! Automatic points over his Dinobot buddies there.

-His robot eyes and dino eyes are SHARED. Such a great touch.

-The robot mode is a really nicely-done combination of balljoints and cut joints, which works well for the organic look. However...

-His palms are stuck face-up. Just like Blackarachnia's and Starscream's. Just like Scourge and Quick Mix from the Cybertron line. This is one of the few things that can really put me off, and it's a huge detriment to what is otherwise a hugely recommendable Deluxe.

-He holds his weapon really well in either hand thanks to some excellent simple-yet-precise engineering. Just two very precisely-cut grooves that fit his robot fingers perfectly.

Overall though, he has so many impressive points that I can forgive the palm-up thing. Clearly the wrist-cuts were dropped to allow for some of the extra detail stuff I've been gushing about, so it's acceptable to me.

Glad I'm not the only one who has problems with the wrist-thing with some TFs.

I know this is stupid to comment, after people who own the figure say the flail doesn't do anything. But has anyone tried rotating the halves like a rubicks (spelling) cube? Maybe they spin out like Sunstreakers head.

The flail is really good at looking like it does stuff until you get a closer look at it and realize what bits are solid. :(

As far as I can tell, all the translucent orange strips are from the same single piece of plastic. They just cup around the two halves of the flailball.

I like his robot mode, but not his dino one...I think I'll pass on this.

    Hooray!

Swoop is pretty awesome. I'm not super thrilled with dino mode, but you can flap his wings without having to detach anything! How cool is that?

Here he is with his Dino pals:

Transformation is fairly simple, but has enough twists and fiddly bits to not feel cheap. It's more involved than you'd think.

He's fairly posable in this mode, and his wings can be placed however you like (I prefer the cape):

Looks great with the whole group! He's a little taller than Snarl, his head comes up to about the top of Grimlock's torso.

Got my Dinobots completed, although I really hope we see toys of the other two, even if they don't appear on the show. It worked for Oil Slick!

For those wondering about the mace gimmick, the clear plastic is sadly all one piece.

There is some neat molding on the two "flame" looking protrusions on the piece. It's possible they were initially planning on having the clear bits be able to be pushed forward so the flames popped out of the top of the mace, but scrapped it. I can't see why they bothered to mold some sweet looking curved flames just to hide them inside the mace, but there are all kinds of tabs and pegs inside the ball that keep this piece from moving AT ALL, so I'm calling scrapped gimmick here.

Also, I'm debating painting his mace black to match the other dino's weapons.

Do it! That will pull them all together very nicely, in my opinion.

Nice pics! (and video review) I'm waiting on my Swoop to get here in the mail. Should be any day now. Very excited. He just looks great. I love his look and his colors.

Yeah. Swoop's been on my want list since we saw his first character sketches, and the figure doesn't disappoint.

    Edit: Did it.

Yes! That looks better then I even imagined. Definitely pulls them all together even more.

    *sets as wallpaper!*

(By the way, I see you painted Slag's collar, which looks great. Are you going to give him his red hands with black fingerless gloves look?)

Possibly. Depends on when I get a chance to dig out the paints again.

Awesome. I'm going to have to wait until I get home from work to finish it up, but I've figured out a way to make Swoop's mace have pop-out flames. I'll post a vid and picture tutorial once I've gotten the work done.
