ok, i noticed there was no review for Wingblade, and since i just got him, figured id review him! Pics to come when i fix my camera... Jet Mode Ok, i must say, i think his jetmode is pretty darn cool. it seems to be based upon one of the jets to fire upon Scorponok in his attack on the base survivors. he has a large rear thruster, and is very bulky under the fuselage where the wings are located, yet is otherwise streamlined. he has alot of non-fireable missiles under each wing, along with one fireable missile at the end of each wing. the entire weapon system flips out and lengthens the wingspan, which i find rather cool. he also has a landing gear set, 2 wheels underneath attatched to a set of machine guns underneath and a drop down wheel in the front, yet he stands fine without that front one, making him look kooler. he also has flaps on the back of his wings which real planes use for steering, which i find a nice touch. Decent playability. Wingblade comes with a Key that plugs into the back of the cockpit, flipping out pannels for his "hyperdrive" mode. Color scheme is mostly light tan with darker tan detailing, and has yellow on the missiles and aboke Key port. Pros: -nice colors -nice jet, bonus for being in the movie unlike many movie characters -rolls decent -flaps on wings make him overall more realistic -key power=awesome Cons: -tad bulky -cockpit window seems far to small -front landing gear makes him cheapish Score: 7.5/10 Bot Mode Now in many pictures, his bot mode looks pretty crappy, but i gotta say, he is pretty darn cool, and much better looking in person. that wing/weapon function that made his wings longer can be used to allow his arms to move around much more, even slip over thetop of the wing, allowing a strange Superman-in-flight pose. his hands are my favorite part, as a slide makes the 6 barrel machine gun barrels retract, making the appearance of fingers on his hand. decent head sculpt, but a strange bar under his eyes isnt all that great, taking away some coolness, and those same eyes are hard to see. feet arent that good either-he can topple semi-easy, but stands pretty well. Decent playability. Weapons are pretty cool-he still has his false missile launchers under the wings, with fireable missiles attatched there-those same launchers can be removed and attatch to his arms. he also now has a set of blades, which are actually the flaps from the wings. they come off and attatch to handles from the back of the tail section from the plane, which attatch to the same place on his arms. his nosecone, which now stores on his back, flips up and attatches to a peg set behind his head. the key activates the hyperdrive panels, making a scoop thing over his head, which is pretty cool. Color sheme is the same, but now a large amount of green has been added, a nice addition to his earlier color scheme. yellow is also on the top&front of his head. Pros: -very poseable -cool colors -Key function is neat -weapons are WICKED -love his hands Cons: -wings must be extended for any poseability, making him look sort of awkward -feet are shaky sometimes, and has semi-weak knee joints. -head sculpt is iffy Score: 8/10 Overall: a rather nice, solid Transformer, much more so than Jetstorm, who has a hole going through where his body should be. defiantely awesome, worth spending the money on him. Score: Numberwise-7.75/10 Overall-7.75/10 - He is what he is
Yeah, he's a good figure, but I probably won't pick him up as I've already got Wing Saber (well, actually Galaxy Force's TRU Exclusive version of Sonic Bomber, but you get my point). Still, for those that missed him it looks like an awesome substitute and the colors fit right in with the movie line too. Congrats on your purchase too!
I was looking at Wingblade at my local TRU. All three of them had some noticeable QC problems. The connection piece between the nosecone/cockpit and the body of the plane was bent on all three of them. And the two halves of the front end of the plane did not sit flush with the rest of the cockpit. My original Wingsaber does not have those problems so I don't understand why this release does.
The one I picked up locally had some double tape on it, but nothing was missing and did not look tampered with. Only a little smudge on the green chest paint.
I'm still not completely happy with the color combination on this release, but I picked it up anyway. Decent mold with some cool gimmicks. It looks pretty cool combined with Galaxy Force Optimus Prime (the dark red and brownish Cybertron repaint). I should have taken pics of it when I had it out and combined, gah.
The green is the only color that throws the palette off on this one. Other than that, and the weird shoulder articulation, I like this figure a lot. It gives me a futuristic A-10 hellbent on destruction vibe. The weaponry is impressive, this must've been the most powerful Autobot in the Cybertron line, sans upgrade. One thing I did not know this had, was storage for the sword handles. That is impressive. Combination with Prime is great, bare in mind folks, I did not have Cybertron Wingsaber. Unlike previous combining Prime's, this combination is not thrown off balance easily, and retains full articulation. Energon prime could go splitsville with Energon wingsaber, and the overrated Omega Prime combination was not balanced(easily toppled over), and its proportions were not as good. This combination is very stable!
hey, does anyone have some good pictures of wingblade with the black repaint prime, the one thats posted is pretty dark...
