Got him in today along with Blackarachnia. Before we get too far into the review, let me put the argument to rest: 
Yes, it fits. 
Ambulance is a decent, if not EXACT, representation of his animated model. Noticabley different is the same color lights on the ambulance (two blue instead of two red). I think Prowl is the only figure that has red/blue lights on the cartoon that actually has them on the toy.   
Transformation is nice, complex enough to be fun, but nothing crazy. Head reveal is a pop-up dring transformation. Robot mode is fairly accurate to the show, the shoulder panels are a little bigger, but other than that, pretty nice, I love his old man "gut."    
Weapons, as seen before, can be stowed on his back, and they have little clips so that can attach to the hinge of the magnets in the palm of his hands when they're folded back. Magnets are spring loaded to flip forward and up when you push them out. 
Weapons are: Screwdriver, Hammer, Can opener (?), and wrench. Someone requested action shots:

Seeing all the Animated Autobots next to each other really made me realise how small Bulkhead is.
I wasn't too sure on how many of the Animated figs I was going to get, but it looks like I may get them all...
