I only got Storm Surge and Crosshairs since Warpath's mold is horrible (the colors aren't too bad though) Starting with Crosshairs (Energon Strongarm mold): First and foremost, this mold has apparently been used to death recently since degredation is rampant all over mine. The arm joints won't stay connected and everything else is pretty floppy. The color scheme isn't too bad, though the allspark light blue and the tan coloring DON'T go very well together at all IMO. This is why I don't care for Deep Desert Brawl...but there's much less blue or Crosshairs AND it's $30 cheaper so I could rationalize it. If you're a fan of the Energon Omnicons, you'll probably dig Crosshairs. But if the mold degredation on mine isn't just a one-off fluke, be weary. Storm Surge (Cybertron Shortround mold): We all know of the infamous toilet mode, so if you want an addition to your public restroom diarama, that's enough of an excuse right there. But seriously, the mold looks great in the darker colors on this release. Shortround was a fun mold in a pitiful awkward sort of way, and Storm Surge is no different. In spite of the fact it's a Decepticon, it does look great paired with Movie Evac as the colors blend together really well.
Oh you had to go an mention Evac with Storm Surge eh, that combo of colors actually sounds good in a SS is an Autobot way. Tag team rescuebots of the coast guard up in Alaska..Just which one is Kevin Costner and which one is Ashton Kutcher?
I'd definitely say Storm Surge would have the ******ed "I think I'm funny so you should to....oh and by the way I'm a douchebag" mentality of Ashton Kucher. Though I don't see Evac making and failed movies in the future...hmmm.....tough choice.
Oddly enough, I bought the same two (passing on Warpath) The only reason I figure Storm Surge isn't an Autobot is the mold's past, and that it would make for an all-Autobot wave (the others can't switch as their bot symbols are molded on). Even so, the only Decepticon symbol on the toy is on his key, and it's probably about as close to a Seaspray deco as that mold might ever see. I'll agree that the Strongarm mold is showing wear with Crosshairs. Mine doesn't have parts popping off, but some of the joints are a bit funny. Overall, except for the camo paint, it's almost Botcon Fallback with the lighter and darker brown colors switched. Personally, I think Crosshairs pulls off the 'tan on brown' look a little better.
Yeah -- the colors are GREAT. Not a big fan of the mold, either -- too much getting in his own way between the claws, weird arm joints, and windshield knee guards. But that deco -- I couldn't resist! He looks nice in bot mode, too. I think you got a lemon. [EDIT: Or, now that I'm reading Feralstorm's post, maybe I got a rare non-lemon.] My Crosshairs is rock-solid -- just as stable as all my other versions of the mold. Haven't found Storm Surge yet.
On my Crosshairs, nothing is falling apart or floppy. I just noticed that several joints (mostly in the arms and shoulders/upper torso) have a wierd feel, like the range of motion has spots in it that are tighter/stiffer than the rest. It just stood out to me since it's the only version of the Strongarm mold I have (I've got one of nearly everly color released.) that acts like that.
I saw these tonight and *almost* nabbed Crosshairs and Storm Surge, and then saw they had Beowulf Director's Cut on HDDVD for $15.
I almost bought Warpath and Storm Surge. They look really good, and it shows how awesome a transformer can look with lots of paint.
I picked him up in the new two pack with Air raid. Not bad, definately the stronger of the two but thhe doesn't really live up to expectations. And his left cannon keeps trying to spring out on its own.
