It works just fine to me. You have to "unlock" it by hinging the cockpit up, and then simply hinge the blade on the outside edge of the cannon down, and the other blade will swing into place. If it doesn't work, you're swinging the wrong blade down manually.
Yeah thats what I did too...unless I read the instructions wrong, I assumed unlocking via the cockpit flipped both blades into position...but again...that's by using the instructions, and I could have breezed past it too quickly as well.
Even though it's not cartoon-accurate, Megatron's fusion cannon positioned in an underarm orientation is growing on me. It seems somewhat realistic due to its oversized proportions. Also, it is not too unlike Jesse Ventura in Predator, or Vulcan Raven from Metal Gear Solid. In the end, however, it still remains a case of having to "make do" with a bizarre design choice on Hasbro's part.
Is the gun supposed to be removable? I was transforming mine and it sorta fell off. But its great without the damn thing.
It's removable more as a structural/safety thing, rather than for aesthetics, as the cannon mount still strapped to his arm looks kinda doofy.
I think Voyager Megs is a big dissapointment. He looks and feels pretty cheap, even by Animated's standards, and his cannon can't be positioned in a way that doesn't look awkward. He's not awful enough to return...hell, at least he hasn't broken yet like Starscream.
Wow voyager megatron is a huge let down. Going from stiff and firm joints (movie voyager megs) to floppy mcloosy pants (animated voyager megs) this figure is back in the box and back to walmart.
At his waist. He flops backwards and wont even stand up when holding his gun. I have been looking at pics and videos of others and perhaps I got a bad one.. i
Just picked this guy up today (was going to give him a pass, but I decided to pick him up sense I liked his Cybertronian Robot design on the show and it's double homage to G1 & Movie Megs), but I have to say that I should have trusted my better judgement and left him alone. Because, for everything that I like about him there's at least one point that I don't... and that's saying a lot considering that I've had pretty much nothing but love for most every Animated figure I've bought thus far (save for BB who I'm stil kind of 'meh' about). Biggest gripes: -His cannon is too damned big and it doesn't align flush with the arm like it should. The only way I've found that it looks good is to have him hold it flipped around under his arm. Which doesn't look bad, but you're basically making do with a strange design choice from Hasbro that really doesn't make any sense. I mean, why in the world would they design him to have a huge gape between his arm and fusion cannon? -His 'sword' is a total joke. While the 'automorph' feature works fine on mine, the sword itself is just laughable and more like a hacksaw or something. I'm not even sure what they were thinking with this abomination. I can't even find a pose for it that I'm happy with really... it's just a real ugly little bugger. -Finally, the fact that they should have a lock for the arm/head automorph feature. Every time I've fiddled with him today and went to move his arms into a forward position it's started to fold them back into the front of his chest and put his head back down. They should have made a clip or some other small mechanism to lock it once he's in robot mode that could be triggered again to unlock it as it makes it a pain to pose him... though I suppose that's probably not very kid friendly. Positives: -I think the sculpt of his head and body are spot on and his articulation is top notch (limited only by the rather weighty cannon on his right arm wich tends to make him lean that way unless you remove it) with tight joints. -The fusion cannon itself has a healthy spring on it that fires the missile a darned good three to four feet. Best launcher I've seen in a long time on a Transformers toy. Indifferent: -I was going to list this as a complaint, but considering that we saw his alternate mode on the show I've got no room to bitch because I knew I was buying a toy who's alt mode looked more like a lump of plastic than any kind of jet. Though, it actually looked a little more coherent in the cartoon model than this toy does. Now, a question. For those of you that have done the mod to make the fusion cannon go flush with his arm. Is it worth doing first off and second what's the best way to go about it as I've read two different places to cut the plastic at? Thanks in advance guys.
It is worth it IMO. I've attached photos so as to better show what I have done rather than attempt to poorly describe it. I made the 45 degree cut so as to make the cannon fit against the curve of the arm.
Well, I got this guy as a gift today. Pros: -The design is okay. I came in with ground level expectations so I was impressed. -Transformation is complex and involved, but still simple and straight forward. -Cannon is nice. Sword gimmick was cool. -Articulation is great. Translucent red is rubbery in most places and less prone to break. Cons: -the head design is fail. It's not accurate and for some reason they gave him an open mouth weird look. -EDIT: It would seem he does have the head dress design, it's just pressed up against his head and because they're unpainted they just blend in.- The box depicts a very clean, professional straight mouth. -White plastic is suxxors. -Cannon, while not a huge botherance, is offset. -Sword gimmick's neatness wears off instantaniously. Now it's just lame. -Mine came with two of one peice. On the knee pads that unfold there is a black bar with pegs and notches attached to the red knee pad.Mine can with both these bars the same and now they don't interlock in vehicle mode. -Speaking of wich. The Alt mode is a letdown. Unlike Movie Megs where the alt mode had jet qualities and looked like it could actually fly, this just looks more like a Cybertronian BOAT than a spaceship. -Head is tilted back, always. It's kinda annoying. Don't get me wrong. He's good, but he's just good. He looks cool with Cyb Prime but he's nowhere as cool as the other Animated figures. He strikes me as more of a high quality Megatron action figure who forgot he was a transformer and through in a nifty transformation which unfortunatly gave way top a lackluster vehicular mode. I have made fan modes of this guy more convincing than his official one.
Picked him up today, finishing off my Wave 1 voyagers, and leaving me with only Bumblebee left to get from the wave (though if you want to get technical, I don't have cybertronian Prime..but the deluxe earth Prime is close enough, IMO). Much better than the deluxe mold, which was just a floppy mess. He looks real good, nice and menacing. A decent size, solid posability. I actually kinda like his cannon, espescially with the blades deployed. And all the nice, clear red on him just looks great, espescially with light shining through. His VTOL mode is, eh..it's there. Not a great mode, but not a bad one either. I was originally gonna pass on him, but seeing as he is the only figure I've seen the last two days I didn't have (and my first time seeing him in person/stores) I went ahead and grabbed him (sadly still no signs of Grimlock or Lugnut). Overall I'd recommend him, a nice addition to the line.
My 3rd Animated toy and the worst so far. I can Almost see a Firefly/Serenity type ship in Alt. Mode, but the sad fact is, his vehicle mode only looks good from up top. All other angles you just see parts of robot. In this respect he's like Ani, Grimlock he has a hole in his chest. Must be a weak spot for designers. Also Mouth on head sculpt is sill looking. Ruins an otherwise badass head. I wonder if we'll ever get the "Megatron as Straxus" head sculpt? Umm prety much else everythings been mentioned.
so once again, I'm late to the party. But i gotta say, I'm totally diggin' this megatron. I only have classics, both movie sizes, and RiD Megatron (and have had Cybertron Megs), and this one, pound for pound, is probably my favorite. He's just got badass written all over him. His alt mode is kinda wierd, but it's pretty cool lookin. his transformation is very easy with little "fiddlyness" (well, there's a little), but there's enough of it to be interesting. He also looks like he might be able to fit in with other lines, too... maybe. My one real gripe (aside from my shift key, which isn't working very well) is his fusion cannon. Big and badass... but a little too long, the whole thing about not being able to sit flush with his forearm (will probably have to do that mod), and... it likes to fall off. i'll have to decide if I want to superglue it on there, or allow it to detatch.
Just got one today. One of the few TF's the Target I went to still had (recent sale or something). He's not perfect, but better than expected. I'll be kitbashing this guy into RID Megatron's color scheme. I was hoping to get the Dirge vs. Roadbuster set but they didn't get them in yet, so part of the reason I got Megs was to help fill the gap between now and when I'll finally be able to get that set and the third wave of Universe Deluxes, which I haven't seen yet. All in all not a bad figure. transformation to alt-mode is a little fiddly, but it's pretty sturdy once you get it there.
