Isn't MASS the Physical size? Height is only 1 of 3 dimensions of physical size. I think the classes have ALWAYS been more about gimmicks/complexity and mass than solely height. It's just height is highly(but not perfectly) correlated with mass and complexity/gimmicks.

Thanks for the very detailed review, that closed the deal for me I'm gettin this fat one for sure! :rock

Seriously, how can you pass on a FAT transformer (energon prime doesn't count)? The bulk of it, and the oh-so-slender waistline...

    Mass is weight.

Though with most other lines you could tell pricepoint by their height, as a larger size meant that they could have a larger height. Bulkhead and Lockdown both show that doesn't need to be the case.

And somehow the third of the agility poses didn't get put up, so here it is...

And all of the poses in this review were unsupported, including his mid TFing shots. All of those were done balancing on his feet.

Man, if that's the rule, I think I own Movie Starscream about three or four times over. I must have a life bond with the little guy by now.

Anyhow, great review, thanks! Bulkhead looks like an excellent figure... and I'm glad to hear that he is solid-feeling, too (that was one of my only lingering doubts about the Animated figures, that they wouldn't "feel" as good as they look). It's great to see how posable he is. And I hadn't heard about the wrecking ball gimmick before, that looks fun. :)

Only quibble that I have is how out-of-scale he is.

Absolutely NOT. Mass is the amount of matter. This does not change if a an object is taken to the moon. The weight of an object would change.

Yes, it doesn't need to be the case, as I said height is highly but not perfectly correlated with the pricepoints, even in past lines. Though it's true Lockdown and Bulkhead here are prime examples, there are other examples in previous lines too: BM Megatron's robot mode is "deluxe-sized" but the mass of the wings/cloak probably account for him being a mega. BM Nightscream/Ultra Jetstorm were much taller than previous Ultras but they're skinny/hallow legs. Rampage and Depthcharge are a bit shorter than other BW ultras, more the height of Megas but they had extra mass on their backs due to the claws and the wings/disc launcher mechanism.

The notion that a certain pricepoint equated to a specific height was never true. Height alone does not equal "Size". That's really all I'm trying to say here.

Just curious, is there a chance for some comparison pictures with a different figure? I don't have Barricade, and I'm curious as to how he looks when compared to something I already have. Thanks if that's possible.

Much more articulated than I originally thought. That adds a few points for Bulkhead...but not enough to make me want to spend money on it. Yet.

Looks like somebody fell asleep in physics class, eh?

The thing that always gets me is that people who use metric units always talk about the mass of things (grams) and people who use English units always talk about the weight of things (pounds) and we are taught in grade school how to convert from pounds to grams (I assume at sea level?) as if they were the same type of unit.

I think the English unit of mass is the "slug", but nobody uses that...
The metric unit of weight is the newton.

Pounds would convert neatly to newtons. Grams would convert neatly to slugs. To convert grams to pounds you need to define some sort of acceleration. On Earth at sea level that would be the acceleration due to our gravity.

even though kg is a measure of mass and not weight we still use kg as a practical notion of 'weight' simply because we associate kg with real weight ie when we pick up a kg mass we notice its weight and think 'ah, it weighs a kg'. its akin to counting 1000 marbles in a bag, picking it up and noticing its weight rather than giving priority to the number 1000.

BTW, an excellent, informative review of bulkhead. he looks like a lot of fun.

I'm still not sure about this guy. He seems to be in scale with Deluxe Prime from what weve seen. But thats about it.

His short stature and amount of ugly kibble on his back really make it tough.
I will most likely get him, but I'll wait till voyagers are on sale. (ppft, yeah right, my local Woolies still has a classics Jetfire they won't reduce)

Still, he should look nice next to Lugnut.

Mass as weight is closer than mass as size.

Actually for a year in High School and a year at College around half of my classes were Physics based. I went for a quick layman's answer while at lunch rather than break some Newton out on him.

Sure, what would you like him up against?

Looks to me like he isn't, or barely so.

And no idea whether I should get the Animated toys...Still conflicted on that...

Watch the Autobot group-shot in this clip. Bulkhead towers over the other bot's but in these pics he's shorter than a deluxe.
