ALTERNATE MODE

Pontiac Solstice! The silverish plastic looks a bit unfinished imo but with the clear windows and all the little details (including molded steering wheel and seats), it looks like something halfway between a deluxe and an Alternator. You can put the gun on the spoiler for some kind of attack mode but there's nowhere to store it. A bit of a let down when you know that all the other figures have their weapons well integrated.

TRANSFORMATION

A good level of complexity. The arms gave me the most trouble as you need to pull them out and then fold/unfold a bunch of parts. Spoiler fits on the arm to act as a shield and gun inserts between the panels of the forearm (more on that later). Folding down the roof on the back reveals the head and triggers some automorphing in the chest area (front grill moves forward and the side parts slide behind).

ROBOT MODE

Head looks funny, reminds me of a bunny with the long ears. The clear blue visor looks pretty rad though. Legs are nicely poseable at the feet, knees (with swivel) and hips. The arms... they're weird. They're empty. Just 2 panels with nothing in between. The hands look weird (tiny claws). Forearms are hard to pose. Clearly not the strong point of the figure. The telescoping gun is pretty cool though. Still, the poseability is excellent. I love the very robotic looking lower legs.

Overall, maybe not the best deluxe figure, but it's a very good one. Cool little nod to G1 Jazz too.

nice review, i gotta say this is one of the few movie deluxes i'm looking forward to picking up, in every pic i've seen the car mode looks weird, unfinished like you said but i'll wait till i see it in person, the robot mode looks sweet, the ear horns looks a little strange but forgivable, nice pics, i'm looking forward to picking this one up.

 

It's a pity the silver on the roof is so different to the rest of the bodywork. If Takara releases a different version, I wonder if they will paint the whole thing so the colour is consistent all the way through?

Looks good, though. Does his gun telescope or is it fully extended all the time?

 

Something looks really "Dollar Store" about the car deco... But I'm in love with the sculpt of both modes.

I just bought myself one from Ebay, so this convinces me I made a good choice. The different paint on the roof is odd at first, but I'll just pretend he's a convertable!
Bit disappointed that the gun has nowhere to go in vehicle mode (I thought we'd seen the last of that!), but it hardly detracts from such nice 'bot and alt modes.

About the roof : it's just a lighting effect, it's really the same grey, it's just because it's painted (over clear blue) instead of being the plastic color itself. In person, you won't see the difference.

 

Photoshopped Jazz real quick to give him a wax finish and so he didnt look so "dollar storeish"  

 

It's not documented on the instructions, but the shield and "sword" can combine:

 

It's actually not a gun, it's a telescoping sword/melee weapon.

He's a bit chunky which is a shame, the original design is so sleek. At the same time, that makes him look a bit more G1 like.

I LOVE the shade of silver he is in these pics. I wonder if it's more true to life than the others? If so I can't wait, I want this guy now!

The only movie design I think is an absolute improvement over the original. Jazz's original design never seemed quite sleek enough for me.

 

I had a dream I had this figure last night, and the "sword" kept telescoping out and out... and out until it reached an impossibly long length.

I must really want this figure THAT much or something.

 

Arms are a let down for me.

Hmmm....Jazz looks so short, squat, and ugly. It's a shame bc Jazz was always one of my fav characters, and this one looks like a gremlin. And no, I don't mean the type of car.
