    ENTRY MODE

Looks like comet/meteor with a truck windshield (that reminds me a lot of Cybertron Optimus Prime) and wheels. Pretty unique. A lot of mecanical details all over the toy. Main color is some sort of icy grey-ish bleu with silver, black, gold, blue and red paint apps. The main wheels are deformed, but the toy rolls on 3 smaller wheels located under the "cab". Weapon is stored under the top of the "tail", between the legs. Flames are made of a rubbery plastic.

    TRANSFORMATION

Nothing too difficult, on par with other deluxe figures. Interestingly enough, it retains pretty much the transformation sequence of most Prime figures : rear becomes the legs, arms unfold from behind the cab, head unfold from top of the cab and waist rotates 180 degrees, plus you need to open/shift some panels (legs, shoulders, front of the cab.

    ROBOT MODE

Despite this totally new form and the futuristic lines, you can tell right away that this guy is Optimus Prime, starting with the head and the chest. Figure has great poseability with a lot of usueful joints. Even the wrists rotate (despite being a tad loose). From all the new movie Primes I got recently, this one is my favorite.

    Not bad, for a skull-fronted truck-lump.

bot mode looks like across between a Guyver and Prime. Hot!

I'm not a fan of the reentry mode though.

That was my first impression too! In robot mode, Prime reminds more of an action figure than a Transformer.

Good concept, badly executed toy. I honestly don't see a kid enjoying that. All I see is BM Primal with a Convoy head. It looks nice for what it is, I may get it just to practice weathering paint techniques. If any figure ever cried out for a black wash, it's this one.

Starscream's protoform robot mode looks a LOT better.

Having this Prime next to BM Primal, I don't see ANY similarities other than them being 2 robots.

Got mine today, love him! Great new style for a TF toy, very different from anything that came before. Great articulation, beautiful textured silver paint highlights. I like him better than the proto Starscream I also got today.

My only crit is the panels on his back. I wish they would fold away better, and not just hang out like half-assed wings.

My review of the Transformers Movie Protoform Figures (MERGED)

I got my Optimus Prime and Starscream Protoform Movies figures today! :D  NOTE: Couldn't upload pics because my camera isn't compatible with Vista (it's old) but trust me, they look just as good as they did in all their pics.

Entry Modes - Surprisingly cool! Very compact and sleek looking. One of the best things about these modes is the fact that they still retain the intended vehicle's look. For example, although the 'Entry' modes are just glorified meteors, Prime's still has the truck grill and a few wheels and the signature Prime Windows; while Starscream's Entry Mode looks lighter and less rounded and has flight stabilizers and has more angles.

Transformation - The two figure's transformations to Entry Mode are very similar, but thats ok because the transformation itself is quite cool! Essentially:

    1. Fold head down and cover with 'lid'
    2. Lift back-plate and insert weapon into the back-plate to form the 'tail fin'
    3. Fold arms back and hook onto back-plate
    4. Twist lower waist and legs around 180'
    5. Fold legs back and hook onto back-plate
    6. Close any loose panels or 'lids'

Although they are almost identical, Starscream's has one very key thing that Prime's doesn't: Automorph.

YES!! We finally get a glimpse at Automorph. When you rotate Starscream's arms foward his head pops out of his chest. Although it's kind of insignificant, it shows what we'll be seeing later on in the series. Another thing to note is the fact that their weapons become parts on their Entry Modes so that there are no loose pieces.

Robot Modes - Ahh, the main event. These are by far the best Transformers/Action Figures/Anything in a long time. They are, in a word, perfect. They're:

    Acticulated
    Detailed
    Accurate (based on comic previews)
    Big (considering they're deluxes)
    Medium-tight joints (best)
And best of all, Prime finally looks like he has a pair. :lol

Starscream is the scariest, most menacing baddie to ever grace our optics. Prime is lankier than in most incarnations but still has that commanding presence about him.

Overall, to be honest, these are the best action figures I've ever gotten, they have everything you wish every other Transformer had. I think that the Protoform Prime is worlds better than the 20th Anniversary Prime. And best of all: These are just the Preview Figures. ;)

Transformers Movie - July 4th, everywhere

Transformers Movie Protoform Figures in stores May 1st

Transformers Movie Figures Series One in stores June 2nd
