Here's a review of those two little gems .

Ultra Magnus:

I'd sum up this Classics Prime repaint like this: Less paint apps, more chrome.

The color scheme is very, very nice. All the the bumper and grill parts are chrome-painted. There are less paint apps on the limbs and head, but it doesn't take away from the overall look.

The cabin and roof stripes and nicely done and set him apart from Prime.

I personally love the mold, so having a quality repaint like this is a nice bonus.

The only thing i want now is pretty much what everyone wants : TRAILERS!

Skywarp

He's the main reason for most fans to get the 2-pack.

He's a must-have classic, and is IMO superior to Starscream in every way.

Again, this one has chrome, on his face and chest, which looks very awesome. I wish my Starscream had a painted face like that.
The black and pink color scheme is very well done, except for a few parts. The jet exhaust should have been chrome-painted IMO.

The alt mode is simply gorgeous, With beautiful stripes.


All we need now is Thundercracker.

Nice review, I'm going hunting for this 2 pack today. My main worry is Skywarp outshining starscream.

 

A rose art metallic blue paint marker to face plate and Magnus will be perfect

 

Are we REALLY talking chrome, or just metallic silver paint? All the test shot pics I've seen look more like paint to me (true chrome/metalized parts would have a more mirror-like finish)

UM+Prime super tag attack!  

 

Yeah I just got my UM vs Skywarp 2-pack and agree that Skywarp's thrusters should have been painted silver instead of purple. But what I do really like is the difference in overall paint scheme between SS and SW. Not the obvious color differences - I mean how the designs are done on the wings, tailfins, etc. And while SW's silver face looks so cool, all it does is make SS look that much cheaper in comparison. They definitely both should have had silver faces.

I cannot wait to see what they do with Thundercracker. Hopefully he'll also have a unique paint scheme and not follow the same template of SS or SW just in blue & black.

UM is what he is. Without a trailer to complete his bot form, he's pretty much useless. I do like that he has Autobot logos on his shoulders though. Would have been nice if Prime had them as well.

 

its easy as pie to put silver on starscreams face man.. just use a fine tipped metallic silver marker.

 

I went for a slighty darker metallic color on my SS's face, to mirror cartoon-ness.

Skywarp is definitely bringing out the best looks of the SS mold though (and hopefully Ramjet will bypass most of the design shortcomings as well)

Got mine as well the other day, overall its a great set. The highlight is definitely the Skywarp though. Despite the molds faults this paint scheme makes up for it in spades. Magnus like Prime is a great toy, but unfortunately not as great a repaint as originally conceived as we have seen from the initial pictures and the pictures depicted on the packaging. Wile compared to most fans I am usually a big fan of the Magnus repaints (G2 Laser Magnus for example) but this one just wasn't quite up to standard as far as I'm concerned, and it was all about paint. For me even putting the blue faceplate would have made a big difference, but the fact that he doesn't and that the skimped out on many other paint apps makes this toy a lot more bland and uninteresting from Prime.

Anyway despite the shortcomings on Magnus paint apps, the set is definitely something to get excited over. Magnus still inherits all of Primes strengths and Skywarp is a vast improvement over an otherwise substandard Starscream. And for $30 you really cant beat that for this set, let's just hope its not to hard to find when it does hit retail.

All in all the set's a must by for any Classics fan.

Classics Ultra Magnus And Skywarp Two Pack

Since these two are repaints I'll keep this short.

Ultra Magnus:

What the hell? He looks better on the box than the toy! They nixed a bunch of paint apps on him that actually made him look good. I would've liked him much more if they stuck with the paint apps that was on the box.

Here are the differences between the pic on the box and toy.

-No blue on the crest of the head on the toy.
-No red pipe lighting eyes on the toy.
-No blue paint on the forearms of the toy.
-Less paint on the crotch of the toy.
-No paint on the thighs of the toy.
-White double barreled gun on pic, black for the toy.

Skywarp:

Black, silver, and purple never oozed this much plastic sex in a LOOONG time. He just looks fabulous.

It says on the box "Product and colors may vary."

It SHOULD say "Product and colors are completely different!"

 

 

True dat. So many missing paint apps on Magnus really hurts him, imo. Missing paint apps aside, he is still awesome. Being a repaint of one of the best figures in the line really helps.

And there is nothing to say about Skywarp. Everyone already knows he's awesome.

That being said, I really like this set. The dramatic differences on Magnus kinda threw me for a loop. Still, the set was $20, and Prime himself is $20. I feel like I got a bargain.

. . . because of Skywarp. Clearly the coolest and sleekest looking of the Seekers, he just really shines. He makes the set worth it and then some.    

 

The more I read and see about Magnus and Skywarp, the less I want them.

 

dont think of it as "missing paint apps," think of it as "the guy who photoshopped the promo pics didnt realize how low the budget was."
