Just took apart his chest and it's a negative on the ability to push his head/neck/shoulder flaps forward.
I won't have the time to even try for a couple days, but does it look like you could dremmel out a slot for it to slide forward a milimeter or so, or is it just not possible?
i gotta say grimmy alt mode is growing on me. he was made fun of - raptor grimlock - but i gotta say i like him for the same reason i like cyb...what was repugnus original colors? the dino legs and tail are great. he really is badass.
I'm still standing by my opinion that this Grimlock looks like ass. He just looks too scrawny in Dino mode, his robot mode looks too squat and he doesn't even have a proper gun or sword for christ' sake. He's not a total sacriledge (that goes to Energon Grimlock), but for his rarity and all that, he couldve been much, much better. Glad you got him anyway KA!
I was joyously lucky to find a single Grimlock at target last night....no Mirage, no Jetfire.....just a single Grimlock. Let me start by saying while Grimlock is by far my fav TF character ever (obviously) I feel like the toy is lacking slightly...and I think I finally know why. The dino head, in pics looked much more canine-like to me...but most of those were side-shots. In person the head is much more reptilian-looking, especially looking it if from the front on. But the thing that still bugs me is the different colors on the dino head than the rest of the body. It looks grossly unpainted. The screws on the front of the robot shoulders bug me a little, but not enough to take major points away from the toy. Other than Transformation joints on the chest and waist being a little loose, the robot mode is actually pretty decent. Overall it's not THAT bad a toy. Both modes are pretty well articulated and very detailed. I do find myself wishing they'd tried to model the Trex mode off of the Rex's from Jurassic Park, but thats probably pretty much impossible. All in all the toys feels like an amalgamation of G1 Grimlock, Pretender Grimlock, and some ascepts of Nucleon-infected grimlock from the Marvel comics, as well as some G2 comic grimlock, especially in the dino-mode. I still wish they'd made him a voyager-sized toy. I'll give Grimlock a A++++, but it's mainly just because I love the character and it's a pretty detailed toy.
gotta agree with grimlock, the biggest turn off for me is actually the head sculpt. its too big a jump from the g1 model, but i guess a g1-ish head may not work so well as feet -.-"
Classics Grimlock is awesome. His alt mode is nice and solid and looks just like a robo T-rex should without being goofy like TM Megatron was. Loads of details and I really like the dark wash on the upper part of his body. His robot mode is even better. This is a fantastic redesign of G1 Grimlock, powerful and well proportioned. His lower arms are stumpy but it doesn't hurt the look of the figure. The light piping works great, I wish they had gone through with it on Bumblebee. Great head sculpt. Overall he's fantastic. QC comments: The shoulders on mine lock tightly even without the black tabs locking down. The tabs on the right side of his head lock, but not the ones on the other side. His torso joint seems a little loose. There's a big black tab on the bit that folds back from his head that you connect his tail to in robot mode. This doesn't look like it slots anywhere and makes the tail hang away from his body.
Me Grimlock say, "YOU TAKE THAT BACK!" Just kidding around. I think he has his positive and his negative myself. But he's still cool. This just means you have the plate turned ever so slightly. If it's trued up, neither side lines up. But, if you cock it one way or the other, it'll fit in on one side and be off by that much more on the other. As far as his head in dino mode? I get a very, VERY strong Beast Wars Megatron vibe from him. Which is either really good, or really bad, depending on your point of view. However, it does set the repaint brainstorming to spinning. Now to find a Best Megs head that fits.
I love him, definately a huge improvement over Energon Grimlock. Reminds me more of Pretender Grimlock than the original Grimlock, but that is fine with me. As far as the shoulder issue, he is still alot better than the Alternator Ram SRT-10 Mold in that department. I give him a 9 out of 10. The only thing that bothers me about him, is that he didn't come out far enough in the past to have been used for Botcon 2006 pre-beast wars Megatron. I really want this mold in BW Megs colors.
I was actually looking at that the other day too. It looks like the "corner" of the back part of the foot stops it from folding back as far as it should, allowing the foot to, if not lay flat, at least get a LOT closer to flat. Another to add to the shoulder pad/neck area problem on this mold.
I am with you all the way!!!! He is really a Great Figure IMO. He matches in size perfectly to his G1 counterpart so I dont know what everyone is complaining about. Not to mention he looks like a T-Rex. In Size relation he is the same size as an actual T-Rex scaled down. If they were to have scaled humanoid figures with the Classics then they would match up pretty well. Anyway I like Grimmy alot hes a nice refresh to a good character. Also I think I read that he was the tallest in his class but after standing them all together Mirage is the tallest.
I have had him for a while now and I gotta say he is my absolute favorite of the Classics line so far. He has that G1 feel to him in bot mode, T-Rex mode looks like a meaner badass than his G1 counterpart. This is definitely how Grimlock should look, like he could either save you or tear your head off, not the kind of feel Energon Grimlock had. As Grimlock himself would say,"Me Grimlock, badass."
I FOUND HIM!!!!! It took a hell of a lot of driving, but I found him! I likes him quite a bit, although I'll admit hes not the most spectacular figure ever or anything. He looks pretty cool in both modes- the dino head color isn't as glaringly off as I was worried it would be. Also, the shoulder issue in robot mode wasn't as bad as I thought it'd be (nowhere near as floppy as E. Slugslinger's shoulders) almost a non-issue really (might just be that mine has tight enough hinges). The tail being used as a weapon looks stupid, but whatever- I'll just keep it on the back and pretend his gun blade thing is his only weapon. Overall, a very happy purchase and certainly one of the best Grimlock figures ever produced (for what thats worth).
Very cool and well designed, I was a little worried that he might tip over, but hasn't happened yet. Excellent in both forms.
