Picked ol' A3 up today. For what it's worth, I get the horns to stay down by turning the neck/mounting piece so that it's angled at 10 o'clock and 4 o'clock position. I also half-assedly peg the sword in between the feet and thighs on the carrier deck in vehicle mode to make a prow.

I'm really glad I didn't pass on this guy. :)

Unfortnately, the head horns wouldn't stay in his chest when I pushed them down. :(

But I did find a way to get them to lock into place. :)

Underneath the chest, there is this little hole that has a piece of orange plastic in the way.

    SDC14490.JPG

When you're pushing down on the horns and trying to get them to lock into place, the little orange piece gets in the way preventing the horns from locking into place.

    SDC14492.JPG

But, when you hold down the button on Alpha Trion's chest, the orange piece moves out of the way.

    SDC14493.JPG SDC14494.JPG SDC14495.JPG

So all you have to do is hold down the orange button while you're pushing down on the horns. Just make sure you're holding down on the button all the way and making sure that the horns go all the way down as far as they can and then you'll hear a click that locks them into place.

I wanna see this mold in a darker/evil/menacing color scheme because with the right colors it just screams evil overlord or something out of WOW.

Also, painted the lion mode eyes silver with a silver sharpie. The eyes are part of a separate piece that makes up the back of the shoulder. Once it's unscrewed the "eye" is a thin nub sticking out from the base. Color that in with a silver sharpie, wait for it to dry (which takes less than a minute) and screw it back on.

Picked this up during a sale and whoa he's pretty fun!
I actually like all three modes and how they are all completely different from one another.

I store his sword in robot mode right on his ass (open up the titanmaster cockpit, attach the sword, close cockpit partially). Looks fine if you don't think about him having a 'third leg' or something.

Short review. I had no interest in this guy, but I ordered an Astrotrain and received an Alpha Trion. Instead of returning it, I just kept it. Surprised how nice he is.

    Good:
Robot mode is solid with decent poseability and stability.
    Great head sculpt
    Cool pop up horns
Battlecruiser is better than I thought it would be.

    Bad:
Lion mode is probably the weakest because of his funny front legs, kibbly back legs and sword for a tail.
The hinge on my titanmaster cockpit window is very loose, but only a problem when it is open.

There's a ton of these guys at my Wal Mart. I got Chromedome instead but I think I might just go for him next time I'm out.

Got this guy the other day. I was on the fence about him and I'm glad that I didn't pass him up.

He's flawed in all three modes. Especially in Foo Dog and Spaceship modes. Both look wonky for various different reasons. Robot mode is easily the best of the three modes.

But you know what? He's still a really fun figure. He looks great standing next to my MP-10V Voyager Masterpiece Optimus Prime and my SDCC TR Voyager Sentinel Prime as a sort of tribute to the past Autobot Commanders. I'll take a pic and post it here when I have the chance.

Something funky's going on here. I had a post in this thread right after Split Lip's, but it's mysteriously vanished. Anywho, reposting:

Finally found Alpha Trion, and personally very happy I picked him up. Sure, he's not much like G1 Alpha Trion, but it's a very cool design regardless.

I personally have no qualms with his lion mode, and his space cruiser mode works surprisingly well. All that ornate sculpt work for the robot mode is gorgeous. His sword is very nicely done. Build quality seems pretty good, and he hides his "hollowness" quite well. Tolerances on mine aren't perfect. His robot hips swing outwards a bit too easily (his legs will easily slip out from him on a smooth surface), and his front lion paws are a bit loose (and annoying easy to pop off, because the tendency is to try to fold them flat, but the way they're molded prevents that and they wedge themselves off instead). But nothing a good shot of Future can't fix, when I get around to it.

Rather than do what some people have done, and leave the lion legs dangling at the back of the robot like some kind of tailcoat, I prefer to use the otherwise mostly unused lion wrist swivels (the official art seems to angle them on his chest, so they're slightly used) to spin them a full 180 degrees so that the paws are hanging off his waist instead of obscuring his chest. I think this better serves his "barbarian king" look, somewhat evoking that look of an animal pelt tied about his waist. And then his robot chest isn't obscured by the paws anymore, showing off his waist taper, giving him a more "muscular" shape, rather than the sort of "fat cube" look the official transformation results in.

I'm enjoying this guy a lot. I think he's probably my favourite Voyager-class figure since AoE Evasion Prime. He's beautiful.

I got Alpha Trion from Walmart. We finally get a main line retail release of this character from Hasbro, it only took 30+ years! Glad I have him.

Well, the robot mode is pretty cool looking. It always catches my eye and has, in my opinion, one of the best decoes in all of the retail toys since Combiner Wars. Looks powerful and the sword is cool; him being a Prime in some continuities makes me think it's something akin to the Star Saber, especially with its size in mind.

However, the sword is quite intimidating too as is the rest of Alpha Trion. In fact, how menacing he looks continues to nag at me. Everything is gnarled and his face is very harsh. Makes me think he's more likely to kill Optimus than repair or upgrade him. I guess with the knight motif some Transformers are following, his "barbarian" look could work as a sort of look back on Cybertronian history, but I doubt his fellow 13 members (if you go by that) will reflect this.

The Fu-dog/Lion mode is honestly my favorite of his modes. It is so weird that it works and he does a good job of standing there menacingly. Being scary, I feel, better suits a beast mode. He is rather stiff and not particularly posable, but he seems huge, especially if you put him next to a Deluxe. A big lion works for me. Funny enough, his Autobot logo is visible mostly in his beast mode. You would assume he was a Decepticon looking at his robot form without context.

I like weird alien space ships, so his vehicle form suits me well but, compared to Sentinel and Astrotrain, it is a little less impressive, I guess? He looks like a flying aircraft carrier or something inspired by Star Wars, but I guess I really don't imagine him as the transporting type like I do Astrotrain or Fort Max. I would have liked better gun and sword storage. It is still pretty neat but my least favorite mode. I expected to like it the most.

I think Alpha Trion's sword would look great w/TR Voyager Galvatron.

How difficult is the transformation? I'm thinking of getting this for my 7 year old nephew. I'm pretty sure he can handle Sentinel/Astrotrain but I'm not sure about this one.

So I looked at this some more, and if you move the cockpit to where it goes in lion mode, it opens up a circular hole. Then you have the two grey squares and the hole making up the pattern at the top of the key. There is also a thin rectangular notch where the legs come together that matches up with the same shape on the key:

Seeing as though he was a key to vector sigma himself in the cartoon, this doesn't seem to be a coincidence.

This is an awesome shout-out by the designers.

I already liked Alpha Trion but, things like this make me like him even more.

Does anyone have a link to a tutorial on how to transform TR Alpha Trion into a fan-made throne?
